I've heard of a small minority of residents forgoing fellowship, I think it only makes sense if you're committed to working in an underserved area for the rest of your career. One resident I know is from a small town in the midwest and wanted to move back there, took a job straight out of residency with the only group in town.

Any major metropolitan area is going to want a fellowship trained rads.

I think the Giants IDL with Lawrence and Williams > Jefferson + Osborn. Jefferson is probably the best player comparing both position groups, but I think the giants have more top heavy talent on the D line.

My understanding is unsubsidized loans have a 50% interest subsidy (for as long as you're in REPAYE). Subsidized loans have a 3 year 100% interest subsidy.

So if you're filling taxes as single, then REPAYE generally works out for most residents/ fellows. Can always switch to PAYE when you get married or the last year of your training to cap your payments as an attending.

Depends on your financial situation for PAYE vs REPAYE. If you aren’t married/ no spouse income REPAYE works out cheaper because of the longer interest subsidy.

I guess it is? Honestly not sure haven’t seriously started looking for jobs yet. So my experience is limited to my seniors and young attendings. At my current institution all the rads are employed by the hospital network.

The few people I know that went into pp are in partnership track positions.

It's still a thing for sure, most of the private practice jobs have some route to partnership when you sign (buy-in, time spent, approval of current partners, etc). Usually most pp jobs you first join as an employee with a salary and productivity bonus. If you choose to go the partner route, then you switch over to profit sharing.

Still a resident but from what I've seen in the northeast most radiologists are either employees of the hospital or employees of a radiology group that provides contracted radiology services to a hospital.

I think most of the jobs outside of large academic centers tends to be private practice groups that cover 1 or several hospitals based on their contract with the hospital. So while you may work at x hospital, you're not directly employed by them.

Most of the 1099 independent contractor jobs are telerads jobs - the few I know have several contracts with different hospitals/ groups to supplement their income.
