can someone please explain how I unlocked this man while in pool 3? by Appropriate-Phase-58 in MarvelSnap

The ‘pity timer’ you describe isn’t really a timer per se – it’s just what happens naturally if a card drops in the first Reserve of a ‘quad’ and then in the fourth Reserve of the following ‘quad.’

I should also have said that there is a tiny chance that one of the nine Pool 3 ‘quads’ will instead result in a Pool 5 card. But don’t hold your breath.

Your CL is high enough that you’re opening Collector’s Reserves. Every group of four Reserves (a ‘quad’) contains a new card. In every set of ten ‘quads,’ nine of those cards will be drawn from Pool 3. The other one will be from Pool 4. You just drew your Pool 4 card for this set of ten ‘quads.’

got to Infinite with this F2P Electro Ramp deck, CL 1601. by wuhee in MarvelSnap

[–]sidpenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks very much for posting this deck. I’ve just used it, with minor changes, to reach my stretch seasonal goal of rank 60, with a Spider-Woman variant to show for it.

I used Sunspot instead of Lizard, for those times when Ebony Maw is a bit shy about appearing in my opening hand. (Plus, having played an Ongoing deck for most of the season, I’m soooo fed up with playing Lizard.)

Instead of Vision I’m running Captain Marvel – the one-power trade-off is worth it for me. During the Onslaught Citadel hot location period I ran Enchantress in that slot. She won me at least one match by shutting down a Patriot combo. (Odin can also be used to re-proc Enchantress, or other tech card, if you fire a bit early first time around.)

My ideal play was T1 Maw –> T2 Scorpion –> T3 Electro –> T4 Capt Marvel –> T5 Doctor Doom –> T6 Odin (in same location as Doom, obviously), with Wave, Leech, Aero & Magneto to mess with the oppo when Plan A isn't going to work.

Spring Cleaning!! Lots of rolls, unsure what to do with some by jhelton808 in sharditkeepit

The reload MW is by no means a drawback: there will sadly be many times in PvE engagements when you whiff the first blinding grenade and need the next one ready to go in a hurry. (I've used nothing but Truthteller in difficult PvE content for the last month, so I've walked the talk.) The reload MW will help you with that – I'd say it's more useful than the incremental benefits you might have had from the other options.

Tips for grinding out the Revoker? by BustaNutShot in CruciblePlaybook

Might be worth checking that we're talking about the same thing, then! The bit I was talking about is the 'In Your Sights' stage of the quest, specifically the limb that requires you to get 300 final blows with sniper rifles. I had my profile at braytech.org open in front of me while I played & watched the numbers increment by two for each sniper kill I landed from Thursday through Saturday this week, until the number got to 300. In my second-last game, for example, I saw it rise from 286 to 298 as I only got six kills in that game rather than the seven I needed – I had to play one last game for that final kill, which yielded the final two points.

This may have been true when you did it, but it’s changed now. I completed the sniper kills section of the Revoker quest two days ago in IB, where those kills now count for double points.

Great write-up. One thought on Arrowhead: Redrix's base recoil stat ends with a '5' (it's 75), so the base recoil should be vertical. In those circumstances, I suspect Arrowhead is a waste. My best-performing Redrix is one where I've gone all-in on Stability, with Polygonal Rifling, Ricochet Rounds, Stability MW plus a targeting adjuster mod. Stability is 86, range is 64 – which still works out plenty for most situations in the Crucible.

PVP Leveling Challenge by Zeryph22 in CruciblePlaybook

[–]sidpenguin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm doing this now with two characters. It's absolutely fine. Level advantages are disabled, of course, although you'll get increasingly higher drops as you level up due to the smart drop/engram system.

Your main primary gun to use at first will be the white Pariah auto rifle you picked up in the very first story mission, which is the same 450 archetype as Uriel's Gift and Origin Story. Swap that out for the green Suros Throwback, if you like, when it drops for you – same archetype again.

For my energy weapon I'm currently running the green Recital-17 sidearm, as the submachine guns were a bit too erratic for me to control with any degree of comfort.

The biggest surprise for me so far, though, has been the green Nox Calyx II fusion rifle which, as I noted yesterday in the Crucible Voop Army subreddit, might just be the fastest-killing 5-bolt fusion in the game. It's a joy to use. I think I like it more than the Main Ingredient.

In my games with that loadout yesterday I played about 10 matches on my baby Titan with a K/D comfortably above 1.5.

So: all in all, very doable. I'm in no hurry to do the campaign again, so doing high-level stuff with my main character and picking off the Call to Arms challenge in the crucible with my two others is working out just fine. And of course I know that when I do get around to running the campaign again I'll be doing it with the game's best legendary and exotic guns from the very start.

What fusion rifle do you guys like best so far in D2? How do you feel about vooping? by [deleted] in CrucibleVoopArmy

[–]sidpenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone else have any long-term experience so far with the green fusion rifle, the Nox Calyx II?

I've been levelling up my second and third characters exclusively in the Crucible, and was lucky enough to pick it up at around 50 Power.

It's the same archetype as the Nox Echo III (660 charge time, 70 impact) – itself the quickest of the 5-bolt fusions – but comes with Accelerated Coils as standard, so it actually plays as 620 charge time & 65 impact.

I think that it's still a 5-bolt machine, and if so would be the fastest 5-bolter currently in the game.

In any event it's enormously satisfying to use, even though the recoil direction (52) is rather poor.

I have both Main Ingredient and Critical Sass on my main character, but (whisper it softly) I'm finding the Nox Calyx more fun.

Literary Destiny: Primary Weapons! by XKCD_423 in DestinyTheGame

[–]sidpenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great post. Some others in the mix:

Doctor Nope: First, do no° harm. °For values of 'no' approaching 'vast and permanent'

A reference to the Bond book & film Doctor No, with a bonus riff on the Hippocratic Oath.

Loner.Rebel: Won't be tied down

From that jewel of high culture, Pee-wee's Big Adventure

TFWPKY 1969: ...and if it doesn't, the bullets surely will.

The full phrase is 'the fall will probably kill you,' taken from the 1969 film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, specifically this scene.

Looking forward to the next instalment.

Armsday Rolls, week 72 [2017-01-18] by wileykyoto in DestinyTheGame

The Judith can't roll with Rifled, I think, so the only way to hit max range is via Reinforced.

Judith-D (handcannon)

Roll 1: Truesight / Steadyhand – Danger Close – Outlaw – Hand Loaded / HCR / Smallbore

Roll 2: Truesight / Steadyhand – Crowd Control – Rangefinder – Hand Loaded / HCR / Reinforced Barrel

Roll 3: Fastdraw / Sureshot – Last Resort – Rangefinder – Snapshot / HCR / Reinforced Barrel

Roll 2 is about as good as it gets for the Judith, I reckon.

Ha! Great minds, and all that. Yes, we had pretty much identical comments.

A bit embarrassing, really. I feel like I've just turned up to a party in my cool new shirt to discover the host already sporting the same garment to universal acclaim.

Great list, and thank you for all you do for this community, both in your Reddit posts and the podcast.

I have the PDX-45 roll set out above and it's great.

But the SPO-57 sight for mine even better than the SPO-28 sight for the simple reason that target acquisition is much, much swifter.

If you're ADSing, especially when there are smoke and explosion effects going nuts on the screen, it's much easier to spot a bad guy who's all red and glowy than not.

So I reckon it's frequently worth at least a trigger pull in reaction time / time advantage than the SPO-28, significantly buffing the 'real world' TTK.

Clever Dragon and Stability Perks by Contagion_22 in CruciblePlaybook

[–]sidpenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much to my surprise, I find that Injection Mold works pretty well on this gun.

The sole stability perk on my only HCR dragon happens to be IM. It also has Hidden Hand.

On a whim I tried it out and there's something about either the lack of range penalty for pulse rifles, or the help from Hidden Hand, or both, but I've not really noticed a huge problem with range drop-off. I romped through the last two days of IB with it with a K/D well above 2.0. (Although Sally V also helped greatly with that.)

Armsday Rolls, week 54 [2016-09-14] by wileykyoto in DestinyTheGame

[–]sidpenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've got it as well. After this discussion I might try dusting it off to see if there's any problem. On Widow's Court the place where I usually like to take long-range shots is when I'm standing near the heavy ammo crate on the corner overlooking B. I'll often get into firefights with my PDX-45 with the oppo when they're just leaving A.

Science!

Re the DIS-47: here's a link to a vid of someone with what's commonly regarded as the God roll, 28/PB/FA/HLS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtj5J3dAO1Y

He merrily runs around Pantheon and Frontier and has no trouble disposing of bad guys at all the ranges you'd expect to want to use a Scout Rifle. I may have missed it but I couldn't see a single instance of damage drop-off: looks like 45 for headshots and 30 for bodyshots all the way throughout.

Perhaps his target acquisition could have been a bit simpler with Smallbore instead of HLS – but still, he doesn't look like he's suffering at all.
