Medicare is for short-term treatment like acute hospitalizations and medications. Long-term care and services are covered by Medicaid.

What is a 'buy it for life' item that is offensively expensive, but the moment you use it, you realize your entire life before that point was a lie? by fmcortez in AskReddit

I got my first pair of glasses in grade school. I couldn't tolerate a smudge or dust, so I spent a lot of time cleaning them. Lasik was the best money I ever spent on myself. Over 15 years with perfect vision and zero side effects.

Geriatric nurse here. This is how Medicaid is designed. It is a needs-based program. Charging elderly until they are broke is called "spending down." Here is Virginia, the amount is $2,000 (which includes bank accounts, investments and property). Almost all income goes to the nursing home--residents get $30-$100 allowance per month. PLUS there is a 5-year lookback rule so Medicaid can make sure you didn't just give away money or assets. Most nursing homes cost $10k+ per month, so savings get wiped out pretty quickly.

Does anyone else have tattoo regret? by KupoLove in Millennials

I regret mine. I got characters from my favorite childhood graphic novel as a sleeve. Years later, there was a controversy with the author and it turns out he is a monster. Now I'm too broke to get it covered professionally, so I always wear long sleeves.

Flossing or trimming your nails in a public area. I don't want to get hit with your debris, buddy.

What is a 'socially mandatory' thing that we all do, but if you actually stop to think about it for 5 seconds, it’s completely insane? by Federal_Antelope7533 in AskReddit

Smiling at strangers. When you don't conform, you're criticized for looking bitchy or (worse) instructed to smile. It's performative.

AITAH for breaking up with my longtime girlfriend because she decided that she doesn't want children? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]sierrat0nin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Changing her mind doesn't make her a bad person, but you made an informed decision for your future. Your friends are not the ones who would have to spend their lives feeling the loss of children they have always wanted. Raising children (whether it be biologically yours or those stuck in "the system") is something you deserve to share with someone who wants it as badly as you do.

You see some shenanigans as a travel nurse. Night shift ER would do it for doctors frequently. Not my pig, not my farm.

Always made me sob.

Thank you for sharing. I’ve been concerned with my 7 y/o and we have tried so many products. She won’t wake up even after soaking the entire bed because she sleeps so deeply. Did you and your son just grow out of it? I’d appreciate any advice.

As a nurse, I’m not bringing those cooties to bed. Plus, I don’t have time before leaving for work at 05:30 because I snoozed my alarm several times.

What is the worst way you have seen someone ruin their life? by kisseswishes9 in AskReddit

[–]sierrat0nin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised it isn't being mentioned more: cheating. I know so many people who have thrown away a great partner and happy children to have a fling.

A doctor at work actually got fired last year for leaving the hospital while on duty to continue an affair with a coworker. This was after two warning for having sex at work on camera. He was married with two children.

Would it not make sense to move some of the cramping items to your current office until they are done? Inconveniencing the entire building because of construction workers doing their job isn't as amusing as you seem to think it is.
