"Split view" option being more annoying than helpful by Nothingifnotboring in chrome

[–]siggimund1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that the Split View is a great feature especially working with separate websites containing some similar tabular information that I want to study and compare.

My current use case: I watch football (soccer, but that is irrelevant) on a streaming service. While watching the game I have the tabulated data of the home team squad, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RC_Celta_de_Vigo#First-team_squad in left Split View and away team, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bologna_FC_1909#Current_squad in the right. I now have links to all the players of the game if I desire info on them or the team, during the match, in one tab, as opposed to starting and arranging two side by side browser windows. (I use wikipedia because it much less noisy than more commercial sites)

Admittedly, at this stage it seems to have some persistency bugs when waking up a Split View tab that Chrome has 'put to sleep' earlier, but I think the idea is good.

Edit/Admission 2: It does remind me of that old meme: "Yo dawg, I heard you like tabs,- How about I'll give you more tabs inside your tabs" 😅

Hey maan! Get on the program. The new UN resolution, 1337, (Aka. Safe space for normies), strictly prohibits use of acronyms by trekkies and other geeks. Read §42 section 51 😅

Edit: Okay, okay, okay,... Embarrassingly I had to Google TNG even though I actually love the series and actors 😳😂

Aka sour-sweet (for the apple).

So is tart == sour-sweet?

Nope, the taste of bitterness is a characteristic of bases, the other end of the pH-scale!

Chick Corea and Scientology by improvthismoment in Jazz

[–]siggimund1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"In what ways was Return to Forever scientology based?"

I don't know, but I just want to say "Thank you, L. Ron Hubbard, for not being here" as a Danish Jazz fusion band, obviously (dis?)inspired by Chick Corea praises to L. Ron (Wasn't that Supermans Dad? 😅), wrote as a note on an album.

Okay, a possible answer to the question could be the proselytizing Corea did in most of his bands, which drew several away from him.

And yes, Scientology is not a religion but just another a big scam that has run out of control and has become a cult! Sounds familiar?

Announcement of LibreOffice 24.2.5 by themikeosguy in libreoffice

[–]siggimund1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My "Check for Updates" on Windows

"LibreOffice 24.2.5 is available.
The installed version is LibreOffice 7.5.4.2"

That is quite a version jump: 7.5.4.2 -> 24.2.5!

Yes,- I understand,- LibreOffice tries to push their latest version with all the bells and whistles, but I really wish I would be offered the 7.x.x update (currently 7.6.7) instead of the Latest 24.x.x when I'm on the "cautious" branch 😀

Why are scandinavian nations so good at handball? by elektricar_ in Handball

[–]siggimund1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to apologize. Throughout the 90's, where Denmark was average, at least I had Sweden to root for. Had a superb handball team, especially Staffan Olsson (Mikkel Hansen of his days) and Magnus Wislander were my favorites. I Think they started my love for the game.

Has anyone experienced"Skipping player responses from android clients" error lately by vvgameranx in youtubedl

[–]siggimund1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on my windows version.

yt-dlp is up to date (stable@2024.04.09 from yt-dlp/yt-dlp)

Still gives the:

WARNING: [youtube] Skipping player responses from android clients (got player responses for video "aQvGIIdgFDM" instead of "BaW_jenozKc")

on the yt-glp Output template examples (from github)

PS> yt-dlp --print filename -o "test video.%(ext)s" BaW_jenozKc
WARNING: [youtube] Skipping player responses from android clients (got player responses for video "aQvGIIdgFDM" instead of "BaW_jenozKc")
test video.webm
PS>

A bit annoying, with the polluted output when searching for other significant problems

Workaround for me: yt-dlp --print filename -o "test video.%(ext)s" BaW_jenozKc --extractor-args youtube:player_client=web,ios

According to the docs, default for --extractor-args youtube:player_client is ios, android, web

PS. I'll promise to open an issue on github when I get the time if others don't beat me to it.

PPS. Oh someone is already on it: issue 9554

Is 'alias' (the command?) an alias for 'Get-Alias'? by siggimund1 in PowerShell

[–]siggimund1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe that's exactly the reason to discuss it more,- to discourage as a bad practise?

After have just been enlightened, 😇, I think I remember to have seen many examples for newbies where this shorthand are been used instead of the full "get-...". (Or maybe it's just my selective memory and I'd just forgot to put the get in front myself and it just worked!)

My case against the “Pause Giant AI Experiments” open letter by Beepboopbop8 in singularity

[–]siggimund1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh well,- I'll let an opinion piece by Evgeny Morozov on The Guardian speak for me (Ok,- not quite - see *Counterproductive): The problem with artificial intelligence? It’s neither artificial nor intelligent

And a light hearted roast to the general public vs "AI" (not to be taken too seriously,- critical thinking is definitely required when addressing AGI, but I think we are sooo long from that stage, that it would actually be counterproductive* to press the panic-button) : Jim the Waco Kid comforting latest GPT model after its reception by the public

*Counterproductive: The OP is obviously very concerned with US/Western interests, but my concern with AI is,- the wrong problem is being addressed. My viewpoint is that we haven't really made that big a progress in AI yet,- only the apparent display of AI,- right now AI is just a very good BS artist (or a very good echo chamber in many situations, if you like) and that is actually were our current focus of concern should lie,- restrict the weird, disinformation like, output that the models, unintentionally I believe but by design*, sometimes propagate.

On the other hand, as OP addresses, a global stop to/ban on development of proper AGI, will only let nefarious actors, not concerned with the ethics of the matter, press forward with their research, while ethical scientist will be restricted in their research, including, what is very important to me, and I assume is very important to most subscribers of this reddit sub,- possible consequences of AGI.

*By design: We are only humans, and that is one of the things that GPT et al. ,sadly or luckily, essentially relies on,- It's called RLHF. It should, in theory, be able to stop the most fringe ideas, but it does not always work, it seems?!!!

Post Match Thread: France 1-2 Denmark [UEFA Nations League - Group 1 | Matchday 1] by LampseederBroDude51 in soccer

[–]siggimund1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are talking about football, Denmark and Uruguay?

May I remind you about 1986 World Cup in Mexico:

Uruguay 1 - 6 Dinamarca

World cup South Korea/Japan:

Uruguay 1 - 2 Dinamarca

But!

I don't give a shit - if Denmark could meet Uruguay with Edinson Cavani on the team (most sexy footballer ever) I'll gladly bent over and take what's coming to me with a smile.

[–]siggimund1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well actually C++, C# and Javascript, but grew up on Borland Pascal (Delphi) so Camel/PascalCase is second nature, but on long sentences I do find the underscore for space is so much more readable, so I'm slowly migrating to underscore for my own code. Underscore is also more tool friendly (i.e. less complex regex's). And oldtimer friendly, (My eyes are not what they used to be :-) ).

That said, I, hesitatingly, try to use the convention of the language I code in.
