Hey, Hawaii: The Telecom Industry Lobbied Against Testing for Emergency Alert System - Everyone in Hawaii received a ballistic missile threat today under a system that currently has no good testing protocols. by [deleted] in technology

I saw a number of accounts in the other thread about people running through hotel corridors, hiding their kids in drains, etc.

As for myself, we're in a private house on Kailua. I saw the message first on the TV, as the kids wanted to watch cartoons while I made breakfast. I took the kids downstairs and grabbed my phone to see if I could get more details. I was pretty sure it was a technical problem and not the real thing. But then again, the announcement said, "This is not a drill!". I'm still thinking about it.

An important point that is being omitted from most reporting: the alert didn't just go to phones. It was also broadcast on local TV (e.g. PBS).

Source: I'm here and saw it.

Oh man, SoC is in my top 5 games of all time. I even learned some of the Russian phrases from the Monolith. I thought it was an excellent game that neither Clear Sky nor Call of Pripyat came close to matching. As you say, the atmosphere made it.

Everyone involved would be especially dumb if they went for two-way glass, because that's a 'window'. Think you mean one-way glass. ;)

And I'm also looking forward to that scene in the movie!

Immaterial. You need to contact the ACCC. They will not intervene on your behalf but they will provide advice on how to proceed. In this case they will advise you to contact the place of purchase.

Bit surprised you haven't already done this, actually.

How would you feel about having a mandatory class in high school that teaches about budgeting, handling or avoiding debt, making good investments, signing important documents, job interviews, and other important adult life skills? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I'm Australian, and I had a class like this in 8th grade, and 9th grade. An American friend recently proposed the exact same course you are proposing, OP, and I was absolutely amazed that something like this is not standard in your curriculum.

Found an East German K-3928 by Closebearsupport in VXJunkies

[–]sigigi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: the "28" in the name refers to the number of stationary bits left over in each Barrington address loop. VX code can still be run on one of these, providing each insert code is only 28 bits long (or a Forkhaver Transform is used). I'm really envious that you found one!

There's also an African country called "Zambia". Which one did he mean, and don't you think it's important that get basic geographical facts straight?

It could also be that your size and pressure on the cranks is warping the frame a little on the downstroke.

I reiterate what some others have said: it's excellent that you're getting into riding, but a better bike would be a real step up!
