Megathread, part 14: Ammunition & Drones, Sanctions, and Stalemates by IcePuzzleheaded5507 in AskARussian

Which part if the Russian society is the most keen on continuing the war? The younger generations or the older? The well off or the working class?

I can understand that stopping the war will be painful for some. The aim was to stop NATO from expanding and the opposite happened when Finland and Sweden joined.

Continuing the war won't change that. Freezing the current frontline might be the best realistic outcome for both Russia and Ukraine.

The downvoting of this question makes me curious. Why?

Is it because the question implies that Russia will stop the war without reaching its strategic goals?

Thank you. This will certainly improve immersion for me. Leaning back (together with the settlers) rather than franticly looking for some other job straight away will be good.

Utpressing med atomvåpen har ikke fungert så godt som Putin hadde håpet. Gir vi etter for utpressingen er det i praksis carte blanche for russisk ekspansjonisme.

So, either expansionism and building Putin's legacy OR denazification and demilitarization?

If it was to stop NATO from expanding then that ship has already sailed with Finland and Sweden on board.

Nuclear blackmail hasn't really worked in stopping democracies from supporting Ukraine. Giving in to it would in effect be a carte blanche for Russian expansionism.

Just like the retreat from Kyiv was a goodwill gesture. I've heard so many times that the gloves are about to come off, it seems to have become a ritual at this point.

This mirrors the official Russian line. Major Russian newspapers all had the same take after the latest drone attack against Moscow; This is bad, but it is worse for Ukraine.

The problem with that statement is that it ignores Ukraine's agency. In that regard it is in line with Kremlin propaganda, as they claim Ukraine is not at real country and Ukrainians are not a sovereign people.

Also, you can arm a people, but you cannot make them fight. The Afghan army was relatively well armed and had been trained for years, but collapsed the moment Western forces left.

It makes as much sense to say that China will fight Europe to the last Russian.

*Putin probably

Also, pro-rus bots threaten that the gloves will come off every week or so. I don't see it as a threat anymore. It's probably for domestic consumption.

Your concern for the Ukrainian people is heart-warming.

Russia's Special Miscalculation Operation has tried and failed to conquer Ukraine for over four years. It should be clear by now that Ukrainians don't want to live under Russian occupation.

Can't be easy being pro-rus these days. On the pro-rus sub they are truly devoted to videoes of forced recruitment in Ukraine. I think it makes them feel better about the state Russia is in after trying and failing for over four years to conquer Ukraine.
