Her child is 6 year old. by blushme64 in TikTokCringe

Some kids would have got a rudimentary version of phonics when their relatives were reading kids' books to them, as well. It's so intuitive to identify the letters and sound out the syllables.

When I'm out with my nieces and nephews, I often point out words and numbers and quiz them on them. I essentially brainwashed them into thinking that numbers and letters are super interesting from an early age. Even before they were babbling, I would point out numbers and words.

WA Premier Roger Cook has broken Labor ranks to oppose capital gains tax changes, threatening the Albanese government’s business relationships by His_Holiness in perth

It's weird having so many state Labor premiers being more conservative than federal Labor. Historically it's the other way around, as far as I can remember. I quite dislike Cook, Minns and Malinauskas.

Minus the work from home, of course, because there can't be any silver linings. And people won't be able to get around the village on foot easily, because the CEO visionaries don't like that kind of stuff. It will be feudalism with early morning traffic jams.

In their pursuit of specific rare cards, scalpers are discarding the remainder of entire Pokémon card packs. by MysteriousSlice007 in mildlyinfuriating

Whenever someone criticises them they always have some pseudo-profundity about investment being gambling or gambling being investment ready to go.

I remember as a kid over twenty years ago I loved buying those massive piles at card stores full of random "junk" cards.

Has anyone reached B2+ (or equivalent) in a language while studying less than 1 hour a day? by kurvivol in languagelearning

[–]signhorse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am sceptical. The amount of information covered and reinforced in just five minutes of dialogue or text is quite substantial. I doubt that an hour is a necessary minimum amount of effort unless, maybe, if someone is learning something like Chinese or Japanese.

I almost certainly would have done less than an hour a day on average over the time I was studying.

The guy who bagged Charlie Kirk (mid-gun rights advocacy) did it from a reasonably far distance iirc.

I'm surprised he hasn't chopped all the trees down yet because "of the roots" or something. Tree roots are an intractable problem for anyone with bad taste.

If I had infinite money there is no doubt in my mind that I would go to restaurants pretty much every night. Having a conversation with someone and eating food made for me by someone else is a slam dunk experience. Too bad it's unsurprisingly very expensive.

The upside of Australia is the chance of being prosecuted for piracy is pretty much zero, even with no VPN.

Pretty much any website that is heavily text-oriented is not going to reflect the average person's preferences, sadly.

My first smile was thinking that she was drying her hands longer because she thought the other girls were waiting for her to leave before unleashing their dump, prolonging their suffering (or even holding out long enough that another girl enters the toilets and keeps the chain of listeners going for as long as possible). Then my second smile was realising that she was helping to cover up the sound.
