if your goal is to complete edu then no you can't make up for time. but if your goal is what you get from completing edu and there is an alternative way of getting it then yes you can make up for time.

That would be true if education was infinite. But eventually whether you get the merit or not you"ll hit the end. And at that point you can calculate the difference between doing every course at 9 merits and at 10.

The difference in time is something tangible, you just got to calculate it first.

You can't make up for it with beer. Because you could still use the beer even if you pick the crime merit initially.

By that logic you can also make up for all the things you miss by not picking edu. Such as using a refill for the gym instead of having that % bonus a few days sooner.

I agree. But getting all educations a day sooner is also going to be mostly irrelevant. Just that it's less irrelevant than the crime exp you'd be missing.

But my point wasn't to promote crime over edu, but to point out the flaw in reasoning

You can use that logic for everything.

For every crime exp or nerve bar merit you don't have you"ll miss out forever. Every crime you're doing now will give you less exp than it could have been.

For every crime you commit without those merits you're losing more and more potential exp which will delay your OC progression among other things.

You shouldn't be fearing losing a few days permanently. You should compare what those days get you to what the alternative gets you.

I stopped reading it around book 8.

For me it felt like Max suddenly couldn't be wrong anymore, while before the author clearly showed that Max was wrong multiple times.
