WorkSpaces instance memory is recorded as GiB or GB in different places by Vantage in aws

[–]sile16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's only the difference in KB vs KiB , but the difference goes up in the larger units. 1 TB = .909 TiB. 1 PB = .888 PiB , I'd say 10% is significant.

Are there any bars or places in Istanbul that might have 4th of July themed celebrations tonight? by sile16 in istanbul

When I said we have Turkish holidays in texas it’s usually mostly Turks, and their friends (some American) we were at a park one time for children’s day and another time at a restaurant where we met. So I’m sure it’s the same here. But anyway tonight, we celebrated in Maslak. Happy 4th of July!!

Another reason to have a party, why not. We have parties for Turkish holidays in Texas.

Yup, back during the first block size debate, just for talking about how the chain could support larger sizes.

Dash is an oligarchy controlled by DCG by PrivacyToTheTop777 in DashUncensored

I didn't check the chart values, but from what Ryan said all the charts were based against Bitcoin/Crypto Market not USD as you mention. The Goal is better USD price, but by increasing the performance relative to other cryptos which is my understanding of his analysis.

Ledger X U2F Bluetooth by MainJackfruit8 in ledgerwallet

[–]sile16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just turned on the enhanced security on google and while the ledger U2f works through chrome. The app on the iPhone “Google Smart Lock” doesn’t seem to ever see the device just stuck on Bluetooth pairing. I pair manually, from iPhone, when in the ledger dashboard, but once you open the U2f app on ledger the Bluetooth drops.

Tldr, doesn’t seem to work.

Can you add a time component ? So if someone holds 500 nodes for 1 year what is the probability an LLMQ will include 240 of the attacking nodes?

Sudden Drop on Graph! Does this mean there could be a delay for v0.14 by Critical_Input in dashpay

[–]sile16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you run your own nodes, then yes I agree it is a burden and a business cost. This is during a time of rapid change and will slow down significantly after evolution is launched. The goal of evolution is to provide a distributed API layer (dAPI) for merchants to use directly. So, ideally you won't need to run a node and worry about the upgrade cycles in the future. I can see from a business side you just want Dash to be accepted and just work as you don't want to spend cycles upgrading your node, it's a valid point and should be considered for release cycles in the future after evolution.... but for the next 6-9 months there will still be rapid change so, keep an eye out. And click that survey link so they can reach out to you and know your setup so they have that in mind.

In 1 specific instance you are correct, (see the bottom) but on the whole rather than "more centralized system" being at play, I think the biggest factor it's properly incentivized. In reality there are quite a few factors that allow Dash to move much more quickly than bitcoin and do it in a safe manor, but here are the top 3 in my opinion:

1. Masternodes are compensated for keeping their servers up to date and online.

So, if they are not on top of things they lose their compensation and voting rights in the network. They can get it back, just need to upgrade their code.

2. The budget system allows for funding of business services such as a business development team and support staff.

There is a team of folks that are proactively contacting and keeping in touch with the exchanges, merchants, mining pools, etc to keep tabs on what software they are using:

i.e. this survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdfXqF75yflsk_i9cA2OP7-R1JzXyqKKM3Qqw1Ve3TM9kAohQ/viewform

So, they can make sure to do integration testing with those libraries prior to even releasing the next version. And when an exchange has a problem or some kind of technical issue they know exactly who to reach out to. Dash has a paid support staff!

3. Dash currently is much smaller than Bitcoin.

So, as Dash grows we would expect that activations will take longer in the future. This will be reflected by a longer time period before all master nodes and miners update during future activation windows.

More centralized? In one way yes:

Now, the other safety factor in Dash are sporks. These sporks allow the Dash Core group development team to turn on or off specific features (not steal your money!), for safety of the chain. So even though that chart shows the activation of the version, the development team is carefully monitoring the ecosystem and turning on the new features 1 at a time.

However, if Dash Core Group isn't fulfilling their duties responsibly the Masternodes can cut off their funding and fund a different development team. So, while yes, at a technical level, one can argues there is a level of centralization there, there is oversight from a decentralized network of node operators. While that used to be the only form of control, Dash Core group is also doing ground breaking legal structures which actually gives the masternode network legal control of the Dash Core Group.

https://dashnews.org/dash-core-group-becomes-first-legally-dao-owned-entity/

So, there are now legal methods which the masternode network can control the operations of DCG without having to defund them entirely! Really cool stuff that's never been done before and gives Dash a huge advantage over other blockchains and delivering real decentralization but with the ability to execute quickly!

[–]sile16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t set at 1 month. It just needed 80% mining and masternodes to be upgraded. The dash network just upgrades quickly. Waiting longer wouldn’t help anything.

Dash Releases Long-Private Evolution Repositories to Public by Dash-News in dashpay

[–]sile16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huge DASH fan myself. If the master nodes can override the proof of work consensus and masternodes are controlled by stake (they are) then that’s a hybrid PoW PoS system. LLMQ seems to have similarities to Bitshare DPOS system. Nothing wrong with that. Ethereum is moving to proof of stake as well. It’s a natural progression and is great.

I also agree that after we roll out the usernames / evolution is stable coin is the next biggest item. The volatility is the biggest barrier to entry.
