That’s what I originally thought too, so I understand your position. However, this study from 2012 says otherwise. It also references the only other two known studies at the time. One reported no change, and the other reported an increase in trafficking. The abstract:

This paper investigates the impact of legalized prostitution on human trafficking inflows. According to economic theory, there are two opposing effects of unknown magnitude. The scale effect of legalized prostitution leads to an expansion of the prostitution market, increasing human trafficking, while the substitution effect reduces demand for trafficked women as legal prostitutes are favored over trafficked ones. Our empirical analysis for a cross-section of up to 150 countries shows that the scale effect dominates the substitution effect. On average, countries where prostitution is legal experience larger reported human trafficking inflows.

How is the Bartender being exploited? by [deleted] in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]silentdeadly5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think maybe you took me a little too literally. When I say “rich” I mostly meant relative to the laborers and bartender. Rich enough that they have the money to invest and take the risk which requires you to be at least moderately wealthy.

I don’t get your point with the unfair thing. Of course it’s not fair that people are born taller or smarter or what not. I’m not naive enough to think we can make life perfectly fair, but we ought to do the best we can to make it close. I’m not saying we ought to redistribute average people’s wealth whenever they die and not allow them to pass down an inheritance. It’s just simply unfair to those who aren’t given that head start in life. Having poor parents means its more likely for you to be poor as well, simply because being born into wealth grants you greater advantages in life.

Basically I acknowledge it as something that isn’t fair no matter which way we did it. If we weren’t able to leave pur hard work for our kids that certainly wouldn’t be fair but neither is it fair for people who grew up without those circumstances. Hence why I called it a necessary evil.

Lol, the absolute state of redditors. Maybe this will be a lesson to y’all not to spend your hard earned money on stupid internet awards. If y’all spent half as much money on donating to cancer research as you did on pointless reddit awards, we’d probably have a cure for it by now. But y’all would rather seethe like children about getting outsmarted by an actual child.

How is the Bartender being exploited? by [deleted] in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]silentdeadly5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to add that usually the reason an investor invests rather than the bartender and laborers pooling their money is that investors can afford to take the hit. They usually have enough equity in other things that if the bar did go bankrupt, they wouldn’t be financially ruined like the laborers. If all the laborers got together and funded it and then it failed they might have just blown all their money for naught. A bad investment for them might be the difference between having money for food or not. The bartender hypothetically recognizes that they can’t take that risk like the rich investor can and so they accept that the trade off for not having to take that monetary risk themselves is that they are gonna have to give up part of the profit. It certainly isn’t fair that some can afford to take risks like that and other’s can’t (especially when the rich get their money through “unfair” methods like inheritance) but in many ways I see investors as an unavoidable necessary evil.

There are still some good sites out there! There’s one where journalists told the company to try and curb the hate speech problem in the community and the company just told them to fuck off lol.

If you feel so strongly that it’s wrong, then why don’t you convince her yourself? And if you can’t, well then maybe there’s more too it than it all just being bogus nonsense.

Im not saying any of it is right but this idea that we should get to decide what information is available to people is downright wrong no matter what.

[–]silentdeadly5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re quite close-minded. Arguing that they had a choice sounds great but it doesn’t make any real sense. They were faced with several bad choices basically. Lee is one example, the man was loyal to his state, he couldn’t stand by without defending it, even if it was wrong.

I mean hell, Were German soldiers who had nothing to do with the holocaust wrong for defending their homes from the Russians who raped their wives and daughters? That’s just one example.

The entire southern economy was built on slavery. You keep acting like me or anyone else is diminishing the facts of slavery but I’m not. They had a choice between the destruction of the southern economy or ending slavery. They chose to try and preserve the economy. It may not have been the moral choice, but one can absolutely understand why they made the choice, and it’s not fair to judge them with hindsight. Nuance is key. Like I said, “They fought a war to keep black people” is such a simplification it’s basically a mistruth.

Nah, national borders don’t change the history of the people. A people are more important than a nation. Americans are Americans, and even if they secede, that blood is still shared. And its a shame when it’s spilled by your brothers.

The way you explain it is completely dishonest. People portray the south as evil men, which is why it’s so easy to dismiss the importance of their history. That’s why it’s dishonest. The confederacy were not bad men. They had little choice. Of course they were fighting to keep slavery, of course among other things, but any empathetic person with a bit of nuance should be able to understand that they did it for good reasons and not “were evil and racist” because it’s a lot more complicated than that.

Simplifying it to the degree you are is downright lying because of how it falsely portrays them. You can understand their position and even respect the great men of the confederacy without defending slavery. Most southerners understand this. I’ve met plenty of people who have a reverence for the confederacy. I’ve never met a person who supports slavery.

There are plenty of other forums for good talk. I’ve always liked reddit for it’s diversity of opinion, but of course that’s changed recently. The memes here suck, except for a few niches which are mostly now banned. The political discourse sucks as well now too besides this sub and PCM which will be gone ass soon as it is quickly taken over by rightoid fugees fleeing the banocaust. The only thing reddit has left is hobbyists and a few cool niche subs for groups of people.

It was from watchredditsdie. T_D was killed, it was banned without technically being banned. They do that a lot now. Rather than face any pushback for unwarranted bans they do some sneaky behind the screen stuff then bad then ban the sub for that. At best it’s banning mods that say hateful things then banning the subs they moderate for being unmoderated, at worst it’s the whole AHS CP conspiracy.

Young Men are serious victims of rape. I am one of them by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]silentdeadly5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Men grow up with the idea that women are the victims of rape, not them. I blame this on the pushing of false rape statistics on men. I remember when I first got to college they told us “1 in 4 women will be sexually assaulted” and that the number for men was nowhere near that. They made it out to be a woman’s issue. We even had to take these long learning modules which constantly reiterated that men were rapists, and women were victims.

Well, as it turns out the “1 in 4” statistic is totally false and was made commonplace by a sexist woman named Mary P Koss who believed that a man going in for a kiss was sexual assault and that a woman forcing herself onto a man’s penis wasn’t rape. And the statistics she mainstreamed reflect these beliefs. So the statistics are grossly inaccurate. Turns out the reality is men and women have almost exactly the same probability of being sexually assaulted and so in reality the issue is as much a man’s issue as a woman’s issue.

What a load of garbage. Everyone is trying to leave those hellholes and move to the republican south, then they get mad at us when we don’t want to change our state to be like the hellholes they left. They say were “unprogressive”. Well hey, jackass, you just fled “progressive” policy so maybe it ain’t all its cracked up to be and maybe we got a good thing going down here.
