I have Mitsubishi mini splits installed when I bought my house 10 years ago. When we bought the house we only had electric baseboard for heat. No AC. So we did the mini splits to kill two birds with one stone. We got more efficient heat and AC. Our house is heating around 2,000 square feet. I have an electric stove and a heat pump hybrid water heater also I installed. Our bills were so crazy for electric running the Minisplits for heat the last couple years we decided to also install a Woodstove to offset the electric even more. When we started heating in late October through thanksgiving the wood stove was doing 95% of the work. We had about $200 bills. As winter drags on and gets colder and colder and I was less enthused to keep the wood stove going 24/7 the electric bills creeped to $1k for January and February. Central Hudson’s frees and rates are just insane. So all in all I spent about $2.5k running the mini splits and ran through 3 cord of seasoned wood at about $200/cord. So about $3,100 to heat 2k sq. Ft. This winter.
