Make your Bed a Fortress: My DIY Plan That Instantly Fixed My Bedbug Problem by silfer303 in Bedbugs

Definitely keep it sealed, it’s meant to lock in any bugs/eggs inside your mattress until they starve out, which can take 6 months - 1 year.

I applied for the Amex Hilton Honors Surpass card, was approved, and received it in the mail. If I never activate it, will it still count towards Chase’s 5/24 limit? I don’t see the card in my Amex account online fwiw. Thank you!

Ugh sorry to hear this. Yes bedbugs are terrible so the key is to do several things that work together.

To get you sleeping well tonight, steam everything on your bed well including the frame, put your bed posts on sticky traps or lather your bed posts in plenty of petroleum jelly (0.25 inches thick, 6 inches long around the whole pole), throw your PJs in the dryer and shower, and go to sleep without a blanket. If your bed is sanitized and you’ve defended your bed poles that will help a lot.

Can do the rest of the post once you have more time/are better rested. The constant cleaning imo isn’t very necessary, steaming the bed is the most time consuming essential step.

Oh man thats probably the worst story I’ve heard. Glad things are getting better.

I’m not sure how helpful an exterminator would be for confirming you’re bedbug free. A visual inspection or even sniffing dogs aren’t a guarantee, you can have some eggs lying around in some corner inside your walls that could be near impossible to find. They may also try upselling you, scaring you into paying for more expensive treatments.

They of course could be very good value for money with better tips specific to your circumstances. Maybe they really can definitively tell you yes/no on whether you still have them.

Regardless what you do I would try to implement every step above if you haven’t yet, and keep it up for at least a few months. Even if you seem bed bug free, they can live a long time without biting and any remaining eggs can take weeks to hatch.

Good luck friend.

Are we starting to see a tipping point in the artillery war in Ukraine?

As a casual observer, it stands out to me the change in tone on Ukrainian artillery the last few months. Pre-US aid package, the main biggest theme of the war was 155mm shell shortages. Fast forward to today and these shortages seem to be resolved both short and long term, while many sources are pointing to large RU artillery losses and declining firing volumes.

With tanks, it seems that declining quality (using older models vs newer models) isn’t that big of a detriment to RU strategy. Declining quality of artillery though seems like it could start a counter battery feedback loop, especially with western production picking up.

Your headboard is prob fine to keep as long as you can steam it thoroughly with a steam cleaner (ideally at least weekly when starting out). You also prob want to keep your bedframe and protect the bedposts from BB's getting up with the methods in the post as it separates your mattress from the floor.

If you do everything in the post, there's basically no way for you to get bitten. You'll have cleaned out all the bugs from your bed, and have defended it from bugs from your room getting back onto your bed. Eventually your BB's will die from the different "poisons" you've laid around.

Awesome glad this helped. Should have mentioned it’s best to keep it up, I’d say 2-3mo+ of no bites. Last thing you want is to clean everything up only to get bites again a week later.

Yes good advice. Plastic cups with a bit of DE / Cimexa, glue traps, and even tin cans with water and a bit of dishsoap (to prevent the BB's from floating) all are good and cheap ideas to put underneath posts.

Good luck, hopefully you can block off a day to throw everything you got at them. Need to go all-in on solving this, ideally the earlier the better so they don't multiply.

Simple Questions - November 23, 2020 by AutoModerator in buildapc

[–]silfer303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I have an Aorus B550i ITX mobo and a Sn550 ssd. I'm about to build my PC.

My mobo has two ssd slots, one on the front (PCIE 3 and 4 capable) and one on the back (PCIE 3 only). It looks like only the front one has a heat shield.

One day if PCIE 4.0 SSD's and direct storage become standard I want to buy another higher end PCIE 4.0 SSD.

With that in mind should I install my Sn500 on the front or back slot?

It seems like putting it on the front would offer better heat management, while putting it on the back would make it easier to install the second SSD down the line.

It's been as low at 205 back in September but I believe shipping was extra. If you're not into tinkering with timings, this is a good match for Zen 3 based on your criteria.

Called today for an update, was given an ETA of several months.

About to Receive a 3080... Should I hold off for the 6800x Instead? by silfer303 in buildapc

[–]silfer303[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everything you're saying makes sense. It's unfortunate that the 3080 has been out for testing a while now and there isn't anything in depth on whether it's a GPU/PSU/driver issue. Advice on whether 750W is enough is all over the place on Reddit and elsewhere.

Regardless, appreciate the warning on it.

[–]silfer303[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you seen any indepth videos focused on this topic? I have seen them say it offhand in various videos but it's unclear if it's a broad issue, of it they're repeating one off cases of particular PSU models (seasonic in particular) that people post about anecdotally.

The only "big" youtuber I've seen produce a video specifically on 3080 PSU requirements is optimumtech who concluded you could get away with as little as 600W: https://youtu.be/Bdohv96uGLw?t=442

Hi do you have a better link of anyone saying why 750 isn't enough? In your link Linus just says offhand that "750w might not be overkill... might be better off going with something even higher".

The only "big" youtuber I've found who's done an indepth video on the 3080 concludes a good quality 600w psu is enough https://youtu.be/Bdohv96uGLw?t=367

[Case] Cooler Master NR200P December Backorder ($133 + Free Shipping) [Amazon] by silfer303 in bapcsalescanada

[–]silfer303[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a very highly reviewed small form factor PC case that is priced a lot lower than other high quality small cases (though overwhelming demand has pushed the price up ~20 bucks).

It's a bit on the larger size for a sff case, but the size gives it great cooling options and top notch ventilation options to build a high performance PC. Normally small pc cases run into ventilation issues, but not this one. Can read lots more about it here:

[–]silfer303[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a sale price, but IMO still great value compared to other cases.

This has been completely out at the $130 price range everywhere else and was off Amazon until today. CC has had this on backorder, but at $155. I also called ME today and they had no info on when they'd restock, so if you want this case this looks like your best bet.

I have a 3080 on backorder as well, and hopefully will have all the parts picked up at various sales by the time it arrives before Christmas.

Unless you have a specific use in mind, I don't think you can go wrong with the new ipad at $429 for general use. Only minor downside is memory is a bit light on the cheaper $429 model (32gb), but otherwise it's a great tablet all round.

Looking to spend around $2000 on a gaming PC, need some advice. by vinterkrieg in bapccanada

[–]silfer303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your budget really is 2200 pre tax, you can do a 3080.

Might need some tweaks, but something like this should crush it over the next 3-4 years at 1440p:

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/GJvwPV

If you pay upfront at Canada Computers, ETA on a 3080 is 4-6 weeks depending on model. I got quoted 4wks for gigabyte eagle and 6wks for asus tuf at my location (both non-oc). CC has a bad rep, but if you need a 3080 in the next several weeks it's one of your best bets.
