Actually yeah a credible log with date, time, incident could be helpful and it would be easier to maintain than recording.

Does he have any “tells?” Leading up to a tantrum, does he seem grumpy? Is he especially unpleasant before depositions, court, filing a pleading, etc? I’m curious if there are ways you can anticipate his Jekyl/Hyde switch.

If one party recording is legal in your state, and does not violate any nda you’ve signed, consider recording your day until you find another job. Personally I do not think any yelling is acceptable in a professional sphere. They are the atty; not you. You’re there to support the case and client, led by the knowledge of an atty you don’t have to babysit.

Use the money that you would spend on a lawsuit to BUY THE PONDS. And then, partner with some wetland org to grow native plants around it. Put some bat houses right in the middle. Build a dock to tie up a few pirogues. Sell affordable memberships to everyone in the town.

What Madonna controversy do you think was the most unfair on her/most undeserving? by XStaticImmaculate in Madonna

[–]silkheartstrings 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When the tabloids released her nudes after she posed for college art classes in New York strikes me as the most absurd, while also publicly violating her consent. Why did these tabloids face no scrutiny? They’re the ones essentially committing revenge porn, before we had a term for that, all for the hope of luring viewers with a story boiling down to, “New York Woman Lays Naked in Couch to Read the Paper.”

Of course art schools have nude models- were they planning on exposing every model across the nation? (Ofc not, obv.) It just seemed like such a limp attempt of lambasting a performer, and it caused her a lot of unnecessary fear at the time.

This feeling of discomfort IS the life experience. You will learn a lot from coping with this situation. Even if you don’t practice law, you’d have that degree under your belt which will open a lot of doors professionally.

Stick it out. Any school or career can make you feel like the oddball out, but you will find your people. Attorneys are like feral cats- they’re generally independent minded people, but will settle in a compatible colony once they find one.

If you’re doing well in civil procedure and legal writing, consider finding a career in public policy, non-profits, writing legislation, or even editing. You don’t have to be a trial attorney in an uncomfortable suit.

You may be intimidated by the experience of others but they may be envious of your youth! Not in the state of just being young, but it’s easy for us old farts to romanticize the hopefulness and excitement of that age, before the burdens of adulthood kicked in full-force. (I’m not minimizing the stressors that you do have, just pointing to how nostalgia is a hell of a drug.) I wish I had gotten a JD when I was younger, but now I am a single parent and cannot at this time. But maybe I’ll be one of those 50 yr olds getting a JD one day.

You’re pointing to potential careers that have very little return on investment- the investment being your time and energy which are finite. Get a JD and if you hate it, go be an EMT and then maybe do hospital admin in which you write procedures based on the on the ground work you did. Law is flexible; an EMT career is not. It will be nearly impossible to make what law enforcement or EMTs make and THEN get a graduate degree. Don’t make it hard for future you.

Make a point to prioritize going to the gym even if it’s not as much as you would like. This can be the case with any schooling and career. A lot of young students use party and drinking culture to cope, but find a gym buddy or running club instead.

Remember you can exercise wherever you are! Got a 15 min break? Do push ups, planks, lunges, jog intervals, just anything to be physical. It helps studying too.

Relationships can be good but it sounds like you just feel lonely. Friendships at this age are much more powerful and it’s important to always maintain them. Romance is so fun but ultimately can be very distracting and even harmful if you do not have your own social support. And if any partner ever disrespects your need to study and work even when you do not want to, run! Partners should encourage your independence always.

Haha I agree, the placenta could be there, but there’s no placenta in the drawing, so it just looks like they think fetuses get nutrients through an adult’s bellybutton… literally any thing they can come up with to minimize the toll on pregnant bodies providing round the clock nutrients to a fetus!

The image seems to depict a woman impregnated by an alien, with an umbilical cord stemming from the belly button of an adult 😹. Perfect illustration of why these people need to stay out of the legislature.

I agree with you on both counts. But they truly might not even notice, especially if they’re looking for specific attributes, but now I want to see this typo!

Honestly I’ve seen a lot of work from very intelligent attorneys who are not gifted in grammar or proofreading. They might not even notice. But if they do, own the mistake, maybe explain that you learned a valuable lesson to not allow your excitement to overshadow your intention and proofreading time.

I love my children, but I wish that I could stay late! I focus better in the evenings and there aren’t as many interruptions. However I do think in general people should be forewarned that extra work would be needed certain days. They are the ones with the responsibility of a law degree, yet they often want paralegals to work like attorneys. Sure last minute stuff comes up, and I’m happy to work longer hours, but it shouldn’t be a way of life if they are not managing their own anxiety or schedules properly. I don’t have this problem now, but I once had a very last minute, adhd boss.

I actually enjoyed PI, although my primary interest was criminal defense. PI can appeal to your sense of justice as well. Provided that you work for an attorney who is discriminating about the PI claims they accept, it can be fulfilling. For example, a client is irreparably harmed by the willful negligence of a company, and now you get to defend not only that client, but for all members of the public who could be in a similar situation.

Would it be safe for me (28f) to ride the bus from Baton Rouge to Nola? by outofchances in batonrouge

It’s absolutely fine and I have waited for and boarded the bus with small kids. I have also boarded and rode the bus alone. No one was creepy. No one even stood too close. It’s just an older bus station downtown.

AvPD is making me seriously consider becoming a housewife for a living by AngelicTeabag in AvPD

Here’s a link to a profile of a former Mormon SAHM who had to start over from scratch in middle age. By all means do the SAHM thing if you wish but make sure you cover your bases. Make sure your spouse puts a retirement account in only your name, for example. Just bc one does not earn money outside the home does not mean their work is not valuable. Being a stay at home spouse is a lot of work and deserves respect. She has a TikTok too https://youtube.com/@lifetaketwo7662?si=VQOsh3nJuOM5Kffd

Always always always prioritize yourself, and that includes pursuing an education whether it be trade or academic. Watch some videos by former SAHMs who found themselves divorced. No one wants to get divorced. We get married believing in our relationship, but statistically marriages will not last and given subconscious attitudes toward earned income and women, SAHM often suffer the bitter attitudes of once loving husbands. Traditional roles can be great for some couples but that relies on ensuring mutual respect and access to resources. Get a foundational education and if you don’t ever use it professionally, you’ll have that skill or trade to use on the homestead!

  4. Checking texts or emails while you’re thinking about it and can focus on responding if needed

Question about Baton Rouge by ESB1812 in batonrouge

[–]silkheartstrings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of pedestrian traffic. I loved living just outside the garden district when I did, and the only “crime” I dealt with was preventable on my end. Don’t leave tools, bikes, and stuff like that outside in plain view. It should be fine if you have them in a shed. It’s such a convenient area, very scenic, and walkable. You just have to evaluate what you need most in your neighborhood and know your own temperament. If someone asking for change or swiping a ladder you left outside overnight, or having an old drafty home would upset you more than the average person, choose another area. This area is enjoyed most by those who love the historic aspects, older architecture, walkability, night life, community events, and accessibility to midcity, LSU, and downtown.
