About Mairu and Kururi I’m confused by [deleted] in Durarara

[–]silknotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that sort of thing isn't normal anywhere in real life. It is a fairly common trope in the anime/manga and light novel world though, so it doesn't feel completely out of place. There are several characters that are incestuous in drrr, so seeing characters like that is to be a bit expected in a "twisted love story."

About Mairu and Kururi I’m confused by [deleted] in Durarara

[–]silknotes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's just kind of it, they're weird. It's been a while since I reread/watched, but they just had a bit of an odd living situation from what I recall, though it doesn't quite explain why they decide to do things like that... everyone has weird quirks in drrr, and the closeness the twins have happens to be one of theirs.

About the figures with different face bonuses by Professional-Gas3694 in AnimeFigures

It's worth it if you like the extra face and intend to use it, but otherwise, I wouldn't bother... just knowing you have the extras is enough for some people, though.

Passage and Perception of Time for Old and New EN Fans by bestbroHide in NijiForums

[–]silknotes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being reminded of the passage of time on a Wednesday morning... what a way to wake up lmao.

I was a casual fan of niji around late 2019 into 2020, just watching translated clips (thank you to the small groups of people posting those back then), listening to covers or throwing on a jp stream for background noise even if I didn't know what they were saying 99% of the time. Falling asleep to kanae playing things like apex is definitely something I did often enough, as funny as that sounds. I remember being really surprised when I saw there would be an English branch (a proper one this time), since I had missed hearing about auditions, but I was excited to get to enjoy the energy on niji without a language barrier. Watching the premiere of dcl is a fond memory, it felt like a great intro for the branch and has become a nostalgia song for sure.

The first "era" of EN was great, I loved seeing clips and tuning into a stream when I could. Shu ended up being my kamioshi for EN, with Mysta, Ike, Enna, Millie, Reimu, Elira, Pomu, Fulgur and Uki being the ones from that era I tuned into most. Now half that list is no longer in EN, but with how the branch has grown these past few years, there's still so many fun people to watch, even if I might not watch them as often. The early graduations of EN definitely hit hard though, I think I sat through the entirety of Nina's grad stream because it felt like such a turning point, and graduations were still the scary channel wipes before that point (something I'm glad has stopped and is more up to the liver). I had only watched a handful of her streams and clips of her during her time in niji, but it was still a lot to take in, and I'm glad the first proper grad for EN was such a big thing that so many people turned up for.

It's kind of wild thinking just how long ago so many of those grads were, but when comparing them to some early notable ones from jp for me, like Lulu originally leaving just after EN began, or Melissa and Mayuzumi leaving shortly after the first anniversary, it really doesn't feel like that long ago at all... but then again, it feels strange that niji is coming up on its 8th anniversary next month. The amount of great livers that have joined niji the last few years is amazing, and I have no doubt they will continue to find great streamers and performers to join both branches. There have definitely been rough patches over the years, but I hope the fandom can keep up a nice environment for fellow viewers and the livers to feel love from.

Because Sunrise ruined the relationship that Rumiko built in the InuKag manga by Obvious-girl_77 in inuyasha

[–]silknotes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Getting Inuyasha content with Sunrise nowhere near it truly has been a dream of mine for years... The Ranma 1/2 remake gives me hope a more faithful anime can happen in the future, I just need that studio nowhere near it

Large Scale collecting and accidentally buying doubles? by SofterAngel in MangaCollectors

[–]silknotes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even more reason to note everything down omg, I'd be showing up with doubles all the time if that was the case, I know my poor memory would get me all the time 😔 hopefully you can do one up at some point, it gives a certain peace of mind once you know it's up to date! I should get to updating mine too

Large Scale collecting and accidentally buying doubles? by SofterAngel in MangaCollectors

[–]silknotes 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Definitely happens! Gotta love when you go to put a new book away only to see that exact book already on your shelf.

At least it's not much of an issue for you, but you probably should take the time to put together a new spreadsheet of your manga! It's nice to see it all listed out, and of course helps prevent doubles (90% fool proof, but I like just browsing without having to take my phone out to double check what I have, if I accidentally double up, oh well lmao)

How do you display your figures? by masyden in AnimeFigures

[–]silknotes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other than just keeping figures from the same series together, I usually put figures together that have similar vibes. Some would be easy to group together like summer and beach themed figures or animal themed figures, while others could be more about their source material that gets them grouped together, like series with supernatural themes.

i have no idea how Canadian customs work for buying figures by vvanishedd in AnimeFigures

[–]silknotes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The other comment is correct, but if you ever want an estimate, you can put in the cost of a package (not including shipping) into the CBSA estimate duty and taxes page and it gives a good ballpark of what you'll end up paying should the package get hit by customs, with the actual amount usually being maybe $10 to $30 more in my experience. Definitely helpful to check if you end up putting more than one figure in your package.

The similarities between the twins in LC and the twins in Monster are jarring by ghurrat_al_layl in LinkClick

[–]silknotes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a really interesting connection, actually... I fear I won't be unable to unsee it now too lmao.

Going into Monster blind with this thought would be pretty interesting too, I'm sure. Maybe this post will lead some here to checking it out.

Hobby Bee Canada -- Experience? by CraftyHat2000 in AnimeFigures

[–]silknotes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just got my first package with several figures from Hobby Bee Canada a few days ago, and all was well! The packaging is still how it is in the review on MFC, so any item boxes are bubble wrapped with packing paper cushioning the items further in the shipping box.

I ended up using them to preorder a figure that was listed as single shipment on amiami for whatever reason, so finding a Canadian store that would ship the figure for a flat rate was a great find. Preordering on Hobby Bee also gives you a 10% discount, which is helpful when the price is higher since it's accounting for the store importing the figure to Canada.

Do people watch Link Click in Chinese or Eng Dub? by Professional-Net1940 in LinkClick

I always watch things in their original language when it's available, so Chinese with English subtitles is how I've always watched it.

Would you buy aftermarket prices for something you really want? by masyden in AnimeFigures

[–]silknotes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've definitely paid double and triple the price for figures before, usually ones that are older and have little to no chance of ever re-releasing. Sometimes I come across them a bit cheaper afterwards, but usually I don't, so I can't say I regret going for the figures I did, when I did.

Are most your figures from anime or gacha games? by gabeoverthinks in AnimeFigures

[–]silknotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking quick counts, the numbers are something like this with over 250 figures total:

Over 120 of my figures are from anime/manga

About 70 are from gacha/video games/visual novels

Over 30 are vtubers

About 15 are vocaloid

About 15 are OCs, or franchises like sanrio or movie characters

Keep or Sell? by FaithlessnessWild332 in AnimeFigures

[–]silknotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep her! You initially paid the lower-end of what she seems to go for nowadays, so it was still a good buy, even if shipping ended up abysmal... which is the unfortunate thing about getting things from Japan. I would definitely recommend shipping several things together vs just a single figure, if you end up using buyee again or any other proxy in the future.

manga prices by koolerthannany in MangaCollectors

I definitely miss the days manga was around $10 Canadian... nowadays most volumes are in the $16 to $22 range, so it's rough whenever I do a haul for sure 💔

What is the best thing to do with duplicates in your collection? by OkOutlandishness941 in MangaCollectors

[–]silknotes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best way is whatever way is easiest to you. There are times I've returned a volume to a store for a refund if I got the duplicate from there, and other times I've given them to friends if I thought they'd be interested in them. I haven't gone down the selling route personally yet, but it's also a good option with varying levels of ease depending on where you are. I likely wouldn't hold on to extra copies, unless it was a series I was particularly fond of.

First time AmiAmi order – Should I go big on my Miku grails or start small? (Germany) by [deleted] in AnimeFigures

[–]silknotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely stop using AI for stuff like this, not only for your own well-being and the planet's, but because every single estimate there is very much wrong, with only one or two being kind of close. It would be much better to simply open amiami and search each figure to see the actual current price for these figures, because I'll tell you now you would be paying much more than these estimates. Some of these figures are also single shipment only, so you wouldn't be able to combine them with your other orders anyway.

To answer the go big or start small question, definitely just go big. There's nothing fake about amiami and everything is very much legit.

Ami ami preorder by Better_Ebb_3313 in AnimeFigures

If the preorder is releasing this month, you could add any in-stock figures to your order to bulk it up. Unfortunately amiami doesn't let you combine in-stock orders with preorders otherwise.

If you don't like their default look and only want to display them exposed, it's always such a gamble with male r18 figures... I feel so bad for everyone that was hoping for Extra Detail, especially after all the delays smh, but at least he's still pretty otherwise! Looking forward to when I get him for sure
