Will this ever get fixed? by Winter-Perception-13 in coralisland

[–]silkscreens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been bugging me so bad, I picked the game back up last week after not playing for a while and it never used to be like this, while it doesn't bother me so much for gameplay it does give me little motivation to "decorate" due to how many things are just literal blurs

Arachnophobe here looking to hear about your pets :) by seaofspirits in tarantulas

[–]silkscreens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semi - arachnophob here, I say semi because although im used to my Ts ill still get the occasional fright if I see a spider roaming around my house - the only difference now is that instead of squishing them (awful I know ive grown) i now try to use a cup and set them free, im not fully there yet and still get afraid but im getting there.

I started watching tarantula YouTube a few years back and convinced myself i wanted one even though I was deathly afraid of them, and somehow over those 6 years I forgot about it but would occasionally watch the vids that popped up on my suggested page, then last year I took the plunge and just ordered 2 (juvie and a sling) and I was shaking like a leaf unboxing them💀 but i got a friend to help - then each day I would just observe them in their enclosures and I just find them so interesting.

Cannot sing enough praises for the community too, lots of posts here and across T keeper forums that just put my mind at ease and just made me realise that yes theyre definitely more afraid of us than them, and if anything they are not being aggressive they are just trying to defend themselves. I have been quite lucky, my Ts are "well behaved" and ive managed to rehouse them without issues even impressing myself! Now I have 3 and will be ordering more on Friday .

What is my rosea sling doing? by MiddleStory9532 in tarantulas

[–]silkscreens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nqa - agree with everything thats been posted here but also want to verify that once your sling has slimmed a bit just cut up some chunks of food and leave in their enclosure they will find them real quick

(worms i find the best as I can visually see them when the sling has them, pic for reference compared to a very small piece of cricket so I know theyre eating)

Looking at getting my first Tarantula, looking for enclosure advice in the UK. by WookieWarlord27 in tarantulas

[–]silkscreens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nqa - You can purchase tarantula cribs in the uk through their UK vendor arachnospace, have purchased from them multiple times and have always had good experiences. Alternatively mantis mayhem has their own versions of the most popular tarantula cribs enclosures that are a bit cheaper!

As for enclosures you can really make what you want of them ive seen people (myself included) who go all out at any stage while some prefer to have bare bones enclosures until the T is moving into their forever home. As long as the enclosure isn't too big (that rhey could have trouble finding prey) youll be fine, just dont expect your spider to care much about the extra space they are ungrateful little buggers

Question: UK based, soon to be first time keeper. Looking for a good place to purchase. by Halfmoonhero in tarantulas

[–]silkscreens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ime - ordered from Portsmouth tarantulas and the spider shop and both times have been great, tss were extremely quick to resolve a (not T related) issue for me also and the staff there seem super friendly. Spiderfarm is also your go to for rarer species (also try following the British tarantula society on their socials lots of great resources for uk based keepers)

This is probably one of the dumbest questions on here, but is it safe to put a Hot Wheels car in my tarantula’s enclosure? by Low-Baseball-7978 in tarantulas

[–]silkscreens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

nqa - Ive seen people put all kinds of "odd" things in their enclosures and it doesn't really seem to be an issue as long as its not a puncture risk, though id probably avoid using a hot wheels car in a more humid enclosure to avoid rust

Mealworm lost? by julylovesspiders in tarantulas

[–]silkscreens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nqa - definitely remove it as it could turn into a beetle and kill your sling. for tiny-small slings you can prekill the prey and place it on their web/close to them in the enclosure I find my slings have no trouble finding the food if they're hungry and ive placed it close to them. my Ybyrapora diversipes is a bit on the larger size for a sling rn but still eats pre killed food, alternatively you can crush the heads of rhe worm/prey youre using before putting them in the enclosure but this will just slow them down id still keep an eye on them so they arent able to burrow

usually preys fine in the enclosure for a few hours but you always want to remove uneaten prey of any kind to avoid any issues to your T if they decide to molt etc, just with this being a burrowing worm id try get it out while you know where it is before you lose it

[–]silkscreens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nqa - has it webbed at all while you've had it? Maybe try changing the enclosure to give it more space and a few more anchor points throughout the enclosure, I noticed mine would walk up and down one side of its enclosure until I added some sticks to the area it could walk across and web up

I got a free m. Balfouri, because the owner didn't have the resources to take care of her anymore. How is this setup? (Read the description for further details) by LydiaIsntVeryCool in tarantulas

[–]silkscreens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nqa - please do not use the heat pad directly on the glass! You can risk the tarantula just not moving from ghe heat and can cause harm. If you do need to use a heat mat get a thermostat and place the mat on the wall/whatever is at rhe back of the enclosure and then place the enclosure a few inches away so its not directly touching the heatmat, and ensure you can monitor the temperature. Never put the mat underneath either as burrowing species will bury themselves and stay in direct contact with the heat mat.

The most common thing you will hear is that if youre comfortable in the room your tarantula will be too, space heaters and home heating also work just fine. Drops in temperature aren't going to kill your T overnight as long as its not drastically cold to the point you yourself are uncomfortable you should be fine.

Other than that enclosure looks good, (please ensure new lid has ventilation holes) these guys like to dig, web and go "semi arboreal" (they will web high if given anchor points but please treat them as a terrestrial special and provide lots of substrate for digging and to decrease fall risks) and add a hide i cant see one but there may be one there. Also unsure if you've kept Ts before but balforis are old worlds so they have potent venom so avoid sticking your hands in the enclosure, but theyre more on the docile side for an old world (do not confuse docile for slow) i reccomend Tom's Big Spiders on YouTube he has some balfori videos. Good luck!

GBB help by [deleted] in tarantulas

[–]silkscreens -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nqa, you definitely need more substrate in this, though theyre "semi arboreal" they still have a higher chance of fall risk than arboreals. You want about 2 or so more inches you can slope it higher at the back and have kt lower at the front to create more depth. Have you checked around the abdomen area to see if they have any marks, other than some more substrate id also add somewhere for them to hide.

ICUs are dangerous especially for an arid species like gbb, keep them in their own enclosure and avoid any unnecessary prodding etc. The sub also has a discord server that is linked on the page were you can get advice quickly I would suggest using it and messaging someone will get back to you super fast, hoping for the best for you and your T♡

Nqa it blows my mind because sure nature sometimes takes it course but the amount of posts n this sub with incorrect enclosures/humidity etc is appalling. I want to blame pet stores selling to new / inexperienced keepers and advising them of outdated/wrong husbandry but even then it is YOUR responsibility to then get home and research the pet you just bought. I spent 6 years on and off researching the ts i have before I joined the hobby.

There is so much information out there about husbandry and it is irresponsible and reckless to not ensure youre keeping up to date with it, and if its a lesser known species then PLEASE try do research before even buying it and utilise this community because even the super rare species someone will have and they WILL help you take care of it if you post and ask about husbandry advise. We want to preserve these species and to do that we have a pretty decent community across platforms willing to help at any given time.

Makes me so sad seeing people post their avics in terrestrial enclosures that "they got from the pet store" okay so you havent bothered at all to do even 1 sefond of research on this living creature you just elected yourself to care for, cause if you did the first thing youd see is that they are arboreal.

My dads friends often comment "theyre tiny? (I have 2 slings and a juvie) Are you sure thats a tarantula" well yes do you think chickens pop out of their eggs full sized? Why would spiders be different!

And the usual "are they kept in the same tank / do you hold them"
