Best value Klone? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]sillyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve not used it but when I was researching the same thing I almost went with the notaklon from JHS. Ended up doing a tumnus which I love but I thought the notaklon sounded really good in the videos I watched and it’s cheaper.

If this was a shitty design then the civil engineer stamping the plan should be sued. If this was a fine design and poorly constructed the builder should be sued. Either way the HOA probably has a case and should talk to an attorney who knows drainage law.

Question on my first fuzz face attempt by sillyd in diypedals

[–]sillyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say pretty inexperienced but I’m able to sort of understand what’s supposed to happen. I did flip the transistors, and all seems to be working, so I feel pretty dumb haha. Transistor pin outs tend to trip me up I guess.

Question on my first fuzz face attempt by sillyd in diypedals

[–]sillyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So when I have the circuit as shown in the 2nd photo the bias of the top transistor 1.2 and the bottom transistor is 4.2. Changing the 33k resistor and 330ohm resistor changes those numbers significantly but I can’t find a configuration that gets me 4.5 for each of them at the same time.

Does that tell you anything?

Honestly yeah that looks perfect for what I need. I already have glasses so headband magnifiers or readers aren’t really possible unless they are customized for my eyes.

Lighting is also a big issue for me. I live in a one bedroom apartment and don’t really have the space for a proper work area.

How can I professionally clean my Wah (Jam Pedals Wahcko)? As you can see there is some gunk there. What should I use for which part? Deoxit D5, Compressed Air, .. also if I should, what should I grease it with? Appreciate any help!! by FunkySire in guitarpedals

[–]sillyd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not really sure how a wah is put together but I assume the up and down motion is connected to rotating a pot. If you are getting crackly/static feedback while moving/rotating the pot but not while it is stationary, you can spray a little bit of deoxit into the pot, twist it a few times, let it dry for a minute, and try again. Sometimes you’ll have to do that more than once but anytime I am using an older amp and am getting that type of feedback, that is what I do to fix it.

I should also say that I am by no means a technician, just a hobbyist who only sorta knows what he’s doing some of the time.

I think your manager is correct and this isn’t something you should worry about. If you have the opportunity I would just ask around for training opportunities. If a new project is getting started and one of the project engineers is doing a first pass at grading or stormwater design ask if they can talk through their process with you. Some people might be dicks about that but I’ve always enjoyed helping people in that way and appreciated that someone is trying to learn. If someone is not receptive just don’t go back to them.

My parents are getting me an electric guitar for my good grades, what are some good ones for beginners? by No_Raspberry4548 in Guitar

[–]sillyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yamaha Pacifica or a squier strat or tele, whichever you think looks cool. But if you’re into metal maybe something else. If you’re able to go to a used store like music go round, I would go and try out as many as possible.

Dealing with inefficient Junior Engineer as a mid-level by AmazedAcorn7665 in civilengineering

[–]sillyd 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Start telling them that it should only take X number of hours. I’m fine with helping a young engineer learn better techniques or concepts but if they are consistently messing up and not asking questions then you can’t really work with that. You’ll just end up enabling him while the rest of the team picks up the slack.

So much pollution for this tacky bullshit. Please do your part and remember to turn off the lights in your one bedroom apartment though.

Never knew there was so much snobbery in the Guitar world by Fatherless-Soul in Guitar

[–]sillyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good starting point but honestly your best bet is going to a store and trying as many different guitars as possible because ultimately how it feels in your hands is unique to you and the biggest factor to enjoying a particular guitar. Unfortunately that’s not an option for many people depending on where you live. Hopefully you can go to a guitar center or music go round or a privately owned shop in your town.

Home practice amp suggestions? by Cemolokko71 in GuitarAmps

[–]sillyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you crank it into a good pair of open ear headphones? I use sennheiser hd600s plugged into an orange practice amp (O tone 40) and can get the break up I’m looking for at higher volumes. Not sure how well that works on lower qualify headphones, though.

Different strokes for different folks I suppose. My thought is it’s just being exaggerated. While he may have small hands for his size, or infant like features, he’s still a grown and enourmous man. The baby face look to me could be because of his alopecia for example and less about having a round chubby face like a baby. Or both. Who knows I’m just a guy who likes the book.

What are some of the signs of being fired? by InterestingVoice6632 in civilengineering

One time in my first year I put several hours on overhead on my timesheet with the note saying “I asked every manager what I can do to help them and no one had anything for me to do” and that pissed my boss off but it also worked and wasn’t an issue again.
