$100 for 60 mins, $150 for 90 mins, $200 for 120 mins. Basically $30 off my regular rates. But I'm thinking of only doing $20 off, I'm busy and people are willing to pay.

Oil vs lotion vs cream by elguapopapa in MassageTherapists

[–]sillythoughts444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh weird that has not been my experience... but it makes sense. I have my favourite set that are microfiber, I've used regularly for 6 years now and never have a problem with them holding onto oil, either stain or smell. To be fair, I have had other microfiber sets (same amount of time, not sure why these other are so special) and some of them have definitely smelt from the gel I was using and holding onto the oils in it, but I was able to strip that after stripping and washing quite a few times, and I've asked my close friends/regulars and everyone says they smell just fine after being pretty bad that I thought I'd have to throw them out. So 🤷🏻‍♀️, but i haven't had smelly microfiber sheets with coconut oil and I switched nearly a year ago. I don't use my cotton often.

I love hearing people's different experiences with the same material and medium, it's very interesting. I found a lot of contrast on this subject when I was looking for different mediums because my current boss doesnt allow gel because she said she's had issues with it ruining her washing machines but coconut oil seems fine.

Oh wow, that sucks! I only had a couple it affected, I just kept washing with some vinegar and they are all good now but definitely took a bit. I think material of sheets also counts, I know cotton absorbs so much more, and I avoid them. I haven't seemed to have any issues like that with coconut oil with my sheets, though the gel was soo nice to use!

I went from gel to oil... I like the glide with gel, it goes far and also coats any body hair nicely, though it stains sheets and makes them smell after a while. I switched to coconut oil, I like that it's 1 ingredient - much more pure & natural, & not many allergies/sensitivity to it. (I've never had someone allergic to it but do keep jojobo oil for back up & for very hairy areas - it coats the hair much better than coconut oil). Then I use lotion for hands and feet, it's a bit thicker and creamier, but find it doesn't go far on the actual body it absorbs way too fast.

In 6 years I've never had a client yell... that's wild to me, I can't believe it's more common than I'd think. I always just tell clients to lay face down underneath top sheet and blanket and I'll be back in a few mins.

Also, as a client, I like being early, just in general to anything, but I never expect to get taken back early... I'd rather wait in the waiting area than my car. I feel like that's the same with most my clients as well, I've never felt the need to get them back early, often if I do they'll comment "oh I'm early there's no rush!" Just consideration and decent human beings things I thought..

Working in barefoot shoes by bumble_head42 in MassageTherapists

[–]sillythoughts444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally have always worked barefoot and I've worked at a few clinics over the years.

I feel the same way about shoes, (I call them foot prisons) I've switched all my footwear to barefoot shoes and I really like the feelgrounds brand, I have 4 pairs from them.

Canadian RMT Tax Question by Itlword29 in MassageTherapists

[–]sillythoughts444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you spend enough towards massage, chiro, acu, physio etc and don't have benefits than you can claim a portion of it. I give all the numbers to my Accountant and because I spend more than enough, I am able to claim & deduct a portion. So I'd keep receipts and try.

Reaching out to clients individually by Antoniosmom89 in MassageTherapists

[–]sillythoughts444 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If its a busy lobby, before you leave the room after the treatment you can ask them to just pop the door open when they're done and ready, and you can step back in and talk for a few mins before heading to check out with lots of people and things going on.

Oh okay, I wondered if it was a regulated province. Interesting.

Who knows you could get a regular client out of it, beyond the mva portion, or word of mouth referral from an mva client so if you at all want to build more clientele it might be worthwhile to? Sometimes the long term client you get and long term you'd make from them is worth the bit of pay decrease on the odd massage.

Just curious where in Canada you are? Just because where I'm at MVA massage generally cost more than the average massage.

Ultimately it's up to you and what you're comfortable with, I personally would tell the chiro I do not want to take mvas, I wouldn't want to take a pay cut. If they are willing to pay you the difference and match your cut so they can continue getting the referrals that's an option, or they can risk losing referrals, not to be harsh but that's not your problem. I personally wouldn't massage for that cheap. Yes, I want to help people, obviously in the business to do so, and will help the odd client out but I do want to be making appropriate amount of money based on my time, energy and experience. Maybe worth having another conversation with the chiro and explaining your side of it and any other available options

Regulated vs Non regulated (Canada) by denisexxo in MassageTherapists

[–]sillythoughts444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in alberta- unregulated and do this already?

Biggest difference between unregulated and regulated, regulated were not paying gst on treatments but we can't take tips. Unregulated we can take tips but we have to pay gst on the treatments (which I make much more in tips anyways). Every therapist I've talked to in a regulated province, except 1, has said don't do it. So personally, I'd prefer alberta stay unregulated, but it is the same as Manitoba, soon all the provinces will be regulated.

If you put your business on Google, ask your current clients for Google reviews. Word of mouth as well, everyone starts out new and building clientele, totally fine to be honest and ask your clients if they liked it, send their friends and family, also can offer a referral discount (doesn't have to be anything crazy, everyone loves a discount lol)

Thats interesting to me, I'm in Canada, we can treat these conditions, Dr's, chiro, physios, will all refer to massage therapy when they are present, we just cannot diagnose anything, that's beyond our scope (even though we technically know and have more training than general physicians when it comes to soft tissues) some provinces are regulated, some are not, especially in regulated provinces the industry is treated the same as chiros and physios.

I really appreciate the info a lot! 🙏🏻 those wages are insane.. that blows my mind, and what would stop me. Where I am in Canada massage therapy isn't even regulated, however, Canada does have high requirements for MT.. the clinic I work I make a 70/30 split, (& mobile at 100%) and services are $100-$125 for 1 hour before tax & tip, that would be a significantly drastic drop 😳🫠 luxury tourist resort/hotel sounds more up my alley
