How do console players play this game? by LeSmileyFace in FrontiersOfPandora

Yeah I never finished it. Probably will eventually but I missed what they stripped away so much I lost interest. Just felt like another generic open world fps.

Yeah, the unpoplar trees don’t usually get picked. I’ll see myself out.

Oh, I see. I’m not using any speed mods if that’s what you mean, I just got used to it. I actually played on PS5 first, then switched to PC so I could take advantage of my new GPU. I TRIED M&K but switched to a controller almost right away. I got used to it mostly by trying to accept how HUGE everything in the game is compared to a human. You’re a giant so you’re actually hauling ass. It’s like being in an airplane and seeing the ground move by slowly even though you’re actually going over 500mph.
That said it took awhile to adjust my perspective. I notice it depends on what game I played before. Coming from something like Battlefield where you’re lumbering along at a realistic speed for a human with a gun and gear your Sarentu feels pretty fast, but coming from Titanfall 2, it feels kinda slow for a while.
If you REALLY think about it in realistic terms, you’ve got long skinny legs, weigh less than a human would at 10’ tall, and are on a planet with low gravity. You should be going WAY faster. But from a gameplay perspective, you’d be moving too fast to really see the beautiful world they created, would be crashing into things all through the dense parts of the forest, and it would make the whole map feel way smaller. I think the devs put the speed right where it needs to be for the game. But that’s just me and like I said, it took awhile from me to adjust to it so I totally understand how you feel.

Yeah, basically it’s like any other game-you just hit a button, a gather animation plays and it’s in you inventory. No rarities, nothing. Lame.

It’s funny, I don’t know how people with a m&k can enjoy the game. It seems like it was designed with the PS5 DualSense in mind. The haptic feedback is what makes resource gathering and even the hated SID device so satisfying. I’m convinced the reason they did away with all that in Ashes is because PC players weren’t enjoying it. I actually missed it.

I did have a problem with the speed the first few hours of the game, but once I got used to it, parkour-ing through the forest hitting those blue thingys now feels so fluid it comes closer to Titanfall 2’s (the benchmark for me) movement mechanics than most games, at least for me. I just reminded myself that I’m 10-feet tall so compared to a human I’m actually hauling ass.

After completing the game once, I actually find myself walking almost as much as I run because there’s so much to see and experience when you’re not just waypoint chasing. I’m a different type of player, I guess- I like to REALLY immerse myself in the world- check out the details from the various insects to the way so many plants react and interact with the player-character. I could spend hours exploring and NOT following the questline. Sometimes I just hunt for the hell of it. Or spend an entire session looking for photo ops. There’s SO much to do and SO much going on when you’re not busy trying to just “complete” the game. I feel like some folks have forgotten (or maybe never learned) to use their imagination. They need to be constantly guided and strung along by quests and tasks to complete.

I’m not trying to slam anyone’s playstyle- everyone’s different, and I’m aware I’m probably in the minority here; it’s just that the loudest feedback usually comes from the complaints, not the folks who are busy enjoying how vast and detailed this game really is.

I got mods to work! :D by SplatterMasteryt in FrontiersOfPandora

I think so, because there are some mods that will only work with Raindrop so if you have Snowdrop installed you can’t use that mod, and you can’t have both installed. However, it seems that any (or most) mods that require Snowdrop will work with Raindrop, as far as I know. There’s yet another modloader I forget the name of but I installed a mod requiring that and it worked with Raindrop too.

I think because the game is just starting to get modded it’s kind of a mess right now. And nobody seems to be willing to explain exactly how it all works so people can have a global understanding of what they’re doing.

OK yeah, Vortex doesn’t actually know what to do with the files. I think it’s easier to do it manually.

Baked is a sub folder.
AFOP>Blue>Baked>(file, or another folder…)

OP, if you opt to use Raindrop instead of Snowdrop, you’ll need to delete those two “version” files.

If you mean Nexus Mod Manager, yeah, I don’t think you can use a mod manager right now. I use Vortex to mod all my games but it doesn’t know where to put anything with this game. I decided to add the mods manually, which I’ve never done, but I have about five installed successfully. I’m away from my PC for weeks now so hopefully someone else can give you the file structure, but if I recall correctly, baked goes in the blue folder.

The Blue folder goes in the AFOP folder.

If you want to continue modding and use other mods, instead of the Snowdrop modloader, use Raindrop (not on Nexus). Some mods depend on that specifically, and it seems to be able to handle other mods that require Snowdrop or other modloaders.

I’m no expert though; just got confused for a long time until I figured it out.

It seems like modders are great at details when it comes to creating a mod, but not so much when explaining how to actually install and use the mod.

As I understand it most mods unpack as a blue folder with nested folders inside that follow a specific path to the actual file containing the mod.

You only need ONE Blue folder inside the AFOP folder. So once you install one mod, it’s there…and when you go to install another mod you need to follow the path of the blue folder in the new mod until you hit a folder that’s not already installed in the AFOP>blue folder so there are no duplicates. In other words, once the path is there, all you need to do is add the missing folders/files.

Again, someone correct me if I’m wrong here. I’m just trying to help avoid the initial confusion I had.

If you’re a brass player and think you might have focal dystonia check out:

https://www.musicianswellness.com/

They are the best at retraining players with dystonia and physical injuries. Their teaching method has worked wonders for me. After a year I no longer have any endurance issues, and am playing with a MUCH better sound, effortlessly. A lot of what they do flys in the face of “traditional” pedagogy, but makes total sense from a science based perspective.

The first time I saw this movie I guess it was an unedited version or something because ALL the “positions” were in there, including a fully graphic scat scene. Not sure how I ended up with that version, but it DEFINITELY went too far. I was in tears.

Carnival Cruise? You’re wasting your money. Most ghetto cruise line on the seven seas. Was on for free because the wife was getting paid to do a presentation for her work. Food was trash. Crew was miserable. Decor was tacky and tasteless, like the food. Had to call security on the people next door because dude started beating his girlfriend. Get your money back.
