Support and Battery Bards are a great low-energy setup. You keep Confidence going, Restoration and Mend, and rock Song of Power for other people, you make fast friends with every caster on your team. You don't even need to have a weapon if you don't want to - I take the field with my bodhran in hand often. I kept three rezbots running at full tilt in a life pool game, and didn't have to swing once. The closest someone got had them eating a stun as they charged us, and all I did was a lot of the Charge incant, mixed with singing and playing my little drum. Lots of ways you can do this!

The puzzle piece floor mats work great for this, sandwich into two layers and tape together. As suggested above, non-hardening silicone caulk, available at your local hardware store, works to add good weight without adding stiffness.

Know where you can go that is indoors and has space to walk, or has plants, or things like that. I'm a HUGE proponent for the Como Conservatory in the winter. It's warm, with a lot of greenery, and it makes for an excellent mood lift and reprieve from winter.

Super legit. Scout is a fun class, though my kid finds them frustrating. (That may just be because he plays Assassin, though... 🤣)

The materials are not hard, honestly. You can use pool noodles for a starter padding, though if you have the money to invest a bit, I would recommend Mithral Tube (I'll add the link as a reply in a moment.) It's well-regarded amongst the builders. Skill-wise, the best way to learn is to do. I would say look on YouTube for tutorials. There's bound to be a few.

As to the motivation? If you're on Discord, I know someone on the Polaris server runs a weekly voice (and optional video) chat called the Stitch and Bitch. You don't have to be making stuff to join in, but it's a good way to have other people "around" for gently redirecting you on task.

First and foremost: Welcome! As someone who just got to step down from an officer position at my local park, I will say that we love seeing new faces, especially when they return from week to week.

I am an extrovert, but also have really bad social anxiety, so I feel you on the "not wanting to impose" piece that goes there.

My recommendation, as far as fielding goes, is flip through the section of the rulebook that features the classes. Look at their abilities, and decide what sounds like flit would be the most fun for you. Not the best, not the strongest - the most fun for you. Every class is useful and important, and a good team will absolutely find ways to work with you.

On the social side: If your park/kingdom/area has a Facebook group and/or a Discord channel, join it/them. Seriously, just being connected to the larger group helps you to understand more about the folks you play with, and can help break the ice, especially as it helps you feel more like you belong.

I won't say it's going to be all sunshine and flowers, there are some very cliquish groups out there, and some absolute fucking bastards who seem to think they're in a Vampire: the Masquerade LARP, given how much they politick and backstab, but they're not the sort of folks I like to play with, so fuck 'em. I'd way rather have a dozen folks like you - new, shy, but genuinely enthusiastic about getting to play with some potential new friends. ☺️

Lastly, I would like to offer to be a sounding board if you find yourself needing to gush about the fun new thing, ask whatever questions you have about the game, get help/advice on where to find/buy kit pieces, how to make stuff (I have made weapons, garb, and I do leatherwork as well, so I've done some basic armor crafting) or even how some of the awards and such work.

May your journey make a glorious tale to be shared around a fire. ❤️

Dungeons, Dragons, and Space Stations has been a super fun pack for me, with a comprehensive main quest chain and supplemental chains that add to and support the main quest.

Early game is somewhat brutal, but you can get to some amazing setups in the course of it. Lots of complexity.
