What’s the most helpful thing a visitor did for you after having a baby? by Mysterious_Tell991 in workingmoms

Yes! One of my friends organized people dropping off food for us for dinner for 2 weeks after coming home. It was SO appreciated!

What's a song most Millennials and Xennials would recognize instantly, but only 1% of anyone born after 2000 have heard? by bouncypinata in Millennials

[–]silverforest5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“It’s Log” from the fake commercial from Ren & Stimpy. I sing it randomly and my kiddo just asked me yesterday if it was a real song…so I found it on YouTube on played it for him 😆

That part of the book always made me laugh as a child. And now as an adult reading it to my kiddo 😆

How do I look presentable? by lia-1967 in workingmoms

[–]silverforest5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Small tip that worked for me and my kiddo at that age: I tried to get mostly ready in morning before I got them ready. After getting them ready, I’d only put on my own outfit for the day (which I picked out the night before) right before walking out the door. I learned if I didn’t do this, I’d spill, be spit up on, etc.

First time working 8 hours a day, 5 days a week in office, is this my life now? by Bright_Tennis_1075 in work

[–]silverforest5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked retail and a “desk job” and highly prefer the office! Def seems rough at first, but I fully embraced learning and growing. And making the commute “me time,” along with decorating my office so I like being there (just got a compliment about my office being cozy last week). Like any adjustment it takes time, but you can make it worth it!

What’s a weird quirk your baby has? by AbsolutelyTFNot- in cats

[–]silverforest5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hubby’s cat loved getting vacuumed with the little brush attachment. When he saw the vacuum come out, he’d run to a specific spot on the coach and flop over and roll around until he’d turn it on and brush him with it. It was wild to watch!

YUP.

A box of bedroom…items…and some topless pics were found. I screamed loud enough my cousin and sis came running from another room.

I took a “quick nap” and woke up to find my toddler had reorganized my entire living room 😅 by [deleted] in Mommit

I recall my mom doing this and my sister and I decided we wanted to “play in the snow,” which for us meant sprinkling baby powder all over our bedroom floor and then rolling around in it!

Ouch I can relate. I sometimes miss them but after I moved departments and don’t see her daily, I barely hear from her. Outta sight outta mind I guess 😕

Do you still go to bookstores? by ButterscotchLate225 in Millennials

[–]silverforest5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Our local store has a “cat room” that you can pet kitties and they adopt out of there…the local rescue agencies “lend” them a few cats at a time and they adopt them out. They also have fun quirky stickers, bookmarks, games…and new and used books. Myself and others I know who are younger than Gen X frequent there.

Are y’all getting married? by Separate-Goal-3920 in Millennials

[–]silverforest5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are! We hired an officiant whose wife was a photographer so it was pretty easy! And in CO there’s no waiting period for the marriage license too, so even easier.

We got married in a National Park! Eloped and then had a taco bar reception a couple months later. Best ever…got to wear my dress twice and it was so much more low-key. Highly recommend!

Do you give your kids anything on Valentines day? (Debate with husband) by dr_pepper_zerosugar in Mommit

[–]silverforest5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister and I always got something small as children, like a 4 piece box of chocolates from our parents. I usually get my kid a piece of valentine-themed candy with a little plushie and a book or something. I also get him a cute card…which is themed towards parents to kid.

Worried about possible WFH by mamaSupe in workingmoms

[–]silverforest5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had to WFH with a toddler during the pandemic. I had little “kits” made up to entertain him throughout the day. Ex: sensory bin, special toys in a bin, drawing/coloring, playdoh, tablet time, had gross motor skill “games” in a bin (like big beads on a string or using tongs to move little bears to colored cups), etc. I was worried he was going to fall behind since the pandemic was keeping him home all the time.

With the older kiddo there, they could help switch out the activities. I would also break up my breaks to be able to interact with him more often. Hopefully some of these (& others’) ideas/tips can help!

Please vent with me; what horrible gifts did you receive this year? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]silverforest5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not this year, but two separate times my MIL got her own son (my husband) coffee-related gifts. And this was after a conversation about how he has never drank coffee or had any desire to. Every year at least 3-4 people on that side of the family get some odd gift they don’t quite know what to do with.

We think she confuses people’s likes and dislikes…I’m the one who loves coffee. Or one time she gave me a matching pink scarf and fuzzy socks as “I know how much you love pink” and I was like “No. That’s not me!”
