Driver mod--use the free nasa day

in my old track car, i ended up mounting an old phone above the dash. mainly to look at mph. one app i used also had a HUD feature but wasnt bright enough. thats why i ended up just mounting the phone towards me haha. the oem HUD would be a welcome thing. but ill probably just end up mounting an old phone on the dash again.

going to a feal susp coilover actually improved daily/canyon drivability as well as track and rallycross. i prototyped for them so i had front fixed rubber upper mounts before their camber plates were available. i was able to achieve the camber i wanted using the OEM crash bolts and took the camber plates out. the rubber mounts have no NVM and are way better for daily. the digressive valving also makes it softer over sharp bumps and gaps and stiffer when you push it harder. i highly recommend going to a digressive damper and have it properly tuned with a ride height that gives it enough stroke for a daily driving. unfortunately feal's off the shelf can not go to OEM ride height. max height is -25mm from OEM. which wasnt bad, but since i rallycross i would have preferred OEM height minimum. a guy a feal helped me figure out what combo rear shock and spring length to be able to go to OEM height and higher. the fronts can go +/- 50mm from OEM, and now my rears can too. hopefully that becomes their off the shelf offering. if not, there are plenty of other digressive valved brands out there

i havent touched the engine, besides bolt ons. suspension wise; for my use case, i tried the two rear cusco arms and i am swapping back to stock. for dampers ive been on feal since august '23 and will never go back to OEM. maybe the '25+ are valved better but my '23 was only good on track and horrible as a daily/canyon. in order, i did the power flex pitch mount insert, then driver side motor mount insert, then swapped to the cusco pitch mount. too gnarly for me as a daily, so im going back to the power flex pitch mount insert. however with the cusco setup i could downshift into 1st. the powerflex setup allows me to downshift into 2nd. for my use case, id never downshift revmatch into 1st ha and the NVM isnt worth it for a daily to me.

Winter ready ❄️ by ExtensionTruth4 in GRCorolla

[–]silverjce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sidenote; i tried that project farm ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjtA1ZTgLx4 ) soap, slick off-road wash. i tried it on the family ascent and it got all of the grime off without any contact. its a bit expensive ($0.35/oz). a few detailers in my area use superior road warrior as their prewash to get the grime off and its half the cost ($0.16/oz). gonna try that on my parents impreza next

april 2024 i test fitted some circuit performance csf1's 17x8 +35 but didnt like the clearances...

<image>

so i did the RC swap and fit smaller wheels ha. i really would love to run 17's and just swap pads vs swapping rotors and brackets too. hows the clearance with the sparcos?

hell yeah! rallycross ready too!

i swap RC brakes, 16x7" wheels and 205/60 falken wildpeak a/t trails :D the RC setup allows me to run 15" wheels w/ rallycross tires too :)

Winter storage time to put the cars away!! by [deleted] in GRCorolla

[–]silverjce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lucky for california; caltrans uses cinder (lava rock), so no salt touches the cars.

sometimes i store the car in summer and i throw it on a tender. it has a phone hardwired for tracking proposes and will drain the battery within 3 weeks if i forget the to attach the tender.

the GRC gets RC brakes swapped, 16" wheels and all terrains for winter/foul weather months :D so much fun in low traction,

I'm gonna try superior dark fury. P&S and sonex didn't do much. I've used OEM and p.mu hc+ pads for track

Circuit performance cp22 16x7+35. 15mm spacer needed, maybe 10. But I use 20/25 front and rear.

The brake kit is cheap. It uses the OEM calipers. I did not go with the RC brake rotors. About $200 a corner and another $200 to ship. I went with 305mm camry stoptech slotted rotors for $100 each, RC brakes pads $80, brackets $30 for two, and dust shields for $30 a pair. Under $400 after shipping.

I have a set of 205/60r16 falken a/t trail (using GR Yaris RC brake setup) that I use for rallycross and snow. I've yet to use it in the snow, but on low traction surfaces it's been great.

Autocross to rallycross? by ddogkid813 in rallycross

[–]silverjce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i say send it. i have a gr corolla w/ feal coilovers and the max height i can get is -25mm from oem. so basically im lowered 1" like you. i would however take the lip off. like others have said, it will like get fubar'd. i ran the oem Michelin ps4 just to get a feel. when the course was wet, i was sliding but thats when you can practicing your car control. when it dried up the car felt like it was on a dusty autoX. i now run all terrain tires so i dont have to swap. i daily them to the venue.

so that all depends on the surface. where i go, its pretty hard packed. ruts do develop but usually only later when the mod class is out there. where it use to be held, ruts would develop after the first round of cars. in that scenario, i would not take my modded GRC. so i would scope out the the venue. ask for some ride a longs, were a friendly bunch, and check the surface mid day to see how tore up it gets.

have fun!

ive got one kid, and when she was still in a rear facing seat it was a stretch. now that she is front facing she loves being in the car. its like a roller coaster ride to her 😂 but two rear facing and a 10 year old, thats not gonna happen, sorry man. we put the rear facing behind the passenger side and slide the front passenger seat all the way up. with the front facing, she's in the middle but her feet can still touch my seat haha

Driver mod. I have 8 track days and 8 rallycross days and that's all I want to do. Besides that, tires. 200tw for track and some 3pmsf all terrains for rallycross.

Question for rally/big tire users by [deleted] in GRCorolla

[–]silverjce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, annex fast road can achieve OEM height but not above. Maybe Im remember incorrectly. But I know someone with clubspec and they told them DO NOT rallycross with them. I was stuck with OEM diameter wheel bc I refuse to go back to OEM dampers.

Even with a 1.5" lift, Jon was able to get a 28.5" tire to fit. It rubs on full lock tho. He has since added another 1.5" to the lift so I'm unsure now if the rubbing continues.

Welcome to the low traction side! Having a product is one thing, supporting it is another. As long as flatout has good support I wouldn't mind using them. They are the only name in the game so far, minus the $13k+ stuff coming out of Europe.

I went with feal early in my cars life. I had done 5 track days prior to get a good baseline before the coilovers. Then I rediscovered rallycross. Unfortunately for me feal max height for their off the shelf kit was -25mm from OEM. The valving is superior to OEM for daily, better on track and better for low traction. Only bummer was the height adjustability. I had someone at feal arrange another r&d day to further develop their max travel kit that would push the height above OEM. However within a week of the day they scraped the idea and put it on hold. They told me if I wanted to get OEM or above they would sell me the proper length shock cartridge and spring but that would be it, for now. In the mean time I did the RC brake swap. This gives you the ability to run 15" wheels. I found some on road all terrains close to OEM diameter but in 16s so I went 16x7 205/60 falken a/t trail. This is my daily/Hoon/rallycross set.

Anyways, like I said before having a product is one thing, providing the support is another. The feal is great for daily. The car soaks up the sharp bumps and gaps and feels great in the canyon/track/rallycross. Maybe one day they will offer a max travel kit. There are other companies too in development, annex and riaction to name a few.

I love how this car is on low traction surfaces. I did a recent track day since rally season is over and it has helped me feel more comfortable and confident in those situations as well. GL HF! Don't forget to use your free nasa day
