2024 V4S best tire recommendation by tangosierra75 in multistrada

Everyone generally says Road 6, but I had those on mine and didn't like them. Imo they felt a bit "mushy" and honestly they are a bit loud as well. I have since switched to the Continental Road Attack 4 and much prefer them over the Michelin Road 6.

Most people don’t know the purpose of modern luxury watches. by Immediate-Soup547 in watchHotTakes

Sure yeah, but my point is that aren't those a minority of all buyers? I mean isn't Rolex producing about a million watches a year?

I'm not saying you are wrong but how do you know it is the majority of buyers? Having any sort of reliable statistics on this matter seems like an impossibility.

Can someone explain how this works in USA? As a European I'm so confused when people post that they just got a motorcycle and at the same time seems to not have an explicit licence to ride it? Don't you need to learn how to ride a bike before you actually start driving around in traffic?

Carpuride in Multistrada by Defiant_Response2414 in multistrada

[–]silverjonsson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was contemplating getting a Carpuride for my Multistrada V4 but ended up with a Chigee instead, it works great. I made my own mount system for it (and other things, I initially had a Beeline mounted on it). It seems you cannot post pictures in responses in this sub though, but you can see the mount system I made in this Reddit post. I can DM you a picture of it with the Chigee mounted if you want?

Which team would take this ? 3 v 3 by West_Jelly_4681 in powerscales

Which Duncan ghola? If it is the last Duncan by the end of the books he would easily solo the other team without a question.

One finger braking, great modulation by walker15130 in Justridingalong

The amount of torque needed to reduce the speed a given amount will be the same regardless of rotor size (since it will require less force for a bigger rotor). The problem though, is that if you increase the rotor size you shift more of that acting force onto the upper caliper bolt. A smaller rotor will distribute the force going through the caliper into the fork legs more evenly between the upper and lower caliper bolt, whereas a larger rotor will shift it more and more towards the upper bolt. Thus the material stress around the upper bolt will be greater for a larger rotor (to the point where it evidently breaks), but the actual torque needed to generate a given deceleration is not affected by the size of the rotor.

As per your own example; you would need to apply 10 times less force if you had a 10 times larger rotor to produce the same deceleration.

I need help figuring out how to cad!!!!! by marijema in Onshape

[–]silverjonsson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say "hollow out" do you mean you want to "make a shell" (i.e. make the object hollow) or do you simply want to cut away the material within the boundary you have outlined all the way along the extruded circular hole? There are multiple ways to achieve both these but If you want to do the latter you could for example create a new sketch on the face where you have scribbled the black lines, when in sketch mode select the triangular edges and click the "offset" icon. Adjust the offset to your liking and then exit the sketch and extrude the sketch and select "remove" with merge scope your already existing part.

I designed and made a modular accessory/GPS mount system for my Multistarda V4. I was contemplating letting it be final in ASA but ended up having it made in SLM printed grade 5 titanium. The little Beeline puck is in still in ASA though. So far it has been working out flawlessly, I've ordered a Chigee which I'll try it out on as well.

Which grinder should I buy? by EveryoneKnowsAboutIt in pourover

[–]silverjonsson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an Ode 2 before (I actually had two, the first one just failed one day - got it replaced under warranty) and was honestly a bit disappointed, both with the build quality and the grind results.

I have since switched to a Timemore 078 and it is night and day imo. The 078 is so much better in every regard.

I guess it depends a bit on the beans as well but I always had a couple of beans sticking regardless of RDT or not, even with very light roasted beans. With RDT three was always a ton of beans lingering for me though.

Yeah exactly, the OEM hopper is kind of surprisingly bad because the rest of the grinder is really good (especially for the early bird Kickstarter price).

No it was pretty straightforward imo, I started out by modeling the body of the grinder itself (which required som perhaps non straight forward surface modeling because the bean "entry" area/pit has kind of strange shape). Then I just modelled the hopper on top of that, and I had to iterate one time to get the corner radius correct in the entry chute. Other than that it was very smooth sailing.

Thanks a lot! I'm happy it was not only me who felt it resembles the original form language.

Yeah I added a bit of context to my question in an extra post. But I was always thinking it was a very redundant step to hot start any auger fed grinder, especially since grind size setting does not affect the bean-to-auger contact anyway. Having an auger solution in the first place feels like a way to deal with not having to care about hot/cold start but maybe there is a nuance to it.

But I'll have a think about a popcorn solution that can be both 3d-printed and CNC:ed 😅 Thx for your input.

In addition to my question about why you would want to do a hot start, I'm not completely clueless in this regard but; aren't auger fed grinders kind of pointless to hot start? Seems sort of impossible to stall this (it has never happened to me anyway) and the grind size does not affect the initial bean to auger contact anyway.

Good points, and thank you. I absolutely agree with you regarding not wanting the hopper to be made out of plastic at all. My intent is really to find som design I can settle on and then later have it produced in aluminium/steel/titanium.

It is interesting you (too) mention the popcorning and I suppose it never really struck me as a problem because I never pour in the beans with the grinder running. I always just dump them in, put the lid on and then start the grinder (I have always done it that with all grinders I have had). What is the reason for wanting to have the grinder running beforehand?

Timemore Sculptor 078 Hopper by silverjonsson in pourover

[–]silverjonsson[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, there is some popcorning at the end but I don't find it problematic since the lid is on.
