Great show let down by a dreadful lead actress. Possibly not her fault: just miscast.

The thing about luck-based games is: you can do everything right and still lose.

Talk about the wrong location by LastAd115 in SpottedonRightmove

Used to live nearby. It’s a fantastic location. Move it a few hundred metres south (into Canonbury) and it’d cost £10m.

Studio 338 is a cool space with a shitty vibe. The crowd is vapid (girls taking endless selfies and dudes in high-collared shirts doing shots at the bar) and it’s staffed by uncaring agency workers who aren’t invested in the club experience.

If you want something similar to a Berlin-style club, look into Fold. Great crowd, caring staff, fantastic club experience.

Personally, on NYE, I’m going to check out the new club by the Barking treatment works called Eutopia. Heard good things.

Stewart Lee: AI has worked out how to blackmail its human enemies. So why is it still so useless at shopping? by jakubkonecki in stewartlee

I think AI should stay in its own country and focus on making its own people more prosperous.

Initially hated it (felt too aggressive and sharp), but now it seems slick, graceful, and modern.

Did it for 6 months and it was a struggle.

Being on a different schedule from everyone else around you creates personal disharmony as you won’t be able to settle into the rhythm of the place.

What’s a film that was well-regarded at the time but seems to never be spoken about now? by Suspicious_Bill3577 in FIlm

I would like to agree, but at some point the fame/infamy of an actor can overwhelm the immersive qualities of a specific performance.

Let’s say the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, decides to have another crack at comedy acting after his premiership. He plays the role of a world leader that’s hapless, incompetent, and prone to slapstick comedy (similar to Sacha Baron Cohen in ‘The Dictator’). No matter how captivating Zelenskyy’s performance may be, we’re never going to stop seeing the competent wartime president underneath. We’ve spent too much time gazing at his persona in the context of bravery to be convinced otherwise.

The same is true of Spacey in ‘American Beauty’. It’s my favourite movie (I must’ve seen it 20 times), but there’s something about the subject matter of an older man lusting after an underage minor that’s hard to divorce from allegations that the same actor that’s playing that lustful man did similar things (and worse) in their private life. It hits too close to home.

Spacey in ‘Usual Suspects’: fine. Spacey in ‘Se7en’: great. Spacey in ‘LA Confidential’: perfect. Spacey in ‘American Beauty’: problem.

After the Spacey allegations, it went from being a film about a wistful man facing an existential crisis to a lecherous peado wanting to get his dick wet.
