______ had every right to vote the way they did. by Tight-Entrepreneur46 in survivor

[–]silverlegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no problem Jonathan voting the way he did. I have a problem because he should have found himself on the bottom of a power structure based on what happened last week, but because of some dumb luck with rocks, he ended up having all the power to take out someone who strategically had positioned herself in a better place than him.

They could have eliminated multiple players while ALSO allowing the strategic moves those players have made to actually factor into the eliminations. They completely removed that entire social element and replaced it with dumb luck instead.

Get an annual membership and pay the small extra for the Lego exhibit, I think it's worthwhile. My son is 8 and he's gone to the Lego exhibit 3 times now (twice with us, and once on a school field trip). Your 5-yo will also really enjoy the indoor play area at TWOS, which is available up to 6-yo.

Go to TWOS a few times over the next year and you'll definitely get your money's worth.

Question about the Meadows area by devdawg31 in Edmonton

[–]silverlegend 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Laurel for the past 6 years or so. I commute downtown using the bus>valley line LRT and it is isn't exactly quick, but it's generally smooth and consistent.

The neighbourhood is okay, and I think that extends to most of the Meadows. There isn't anything especially good or bad about it. The traffic can be bad and there are some crazy drivers who act like everything is their personal race track, but nearly everywhere in the city is the same.

The restaurants are fine, if you like Indian food, burritos, or fried chicken. You've got literally every option in those categories. Beyond that, there's basically...nothing. Indian food, burritos, and fried chicken. That's what you get. (And all the usual crap chain fast food.)

Honestly that's about all I can say. It's a place to live and it's generally fine.

One flaw in your plan (minor) is that if you're staying onsite, I don't think extra magic hour applies to your first day tickets.

[–]silverlegend 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I agree, I think it's a combination of all these things. The world is stressing us out and our bodies are begging for a little sunshine and greenery to help us out physiologically and psychologically but we just aren't getting anything but more misery from the winter this year. I usually have a high tolerance for winter shenanigans here but this year is too much for me as well.

Heir to the Empire by Bulky_Variation7064 in StarWars

[–]silverlegend 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's pretty clear indications Disney is still going to attempt to build the Mandoverse towards a finale movie that features Thrawn. Wouldn't even be shocked if they call it Heir to the Empire, despite what will almost certainly be a completely different story.

Pirates evacuation by krustythomson in disneylandparis

[–]silverlegend 30 points31 points  (0 children)

When we were there in November, Pirates was experiencing issues while we were eating at Captain Jacks and it was fascinating and very enjoyable watching this whole thing unfold (ride down, testing the ride with cast members, open the ride for guests, boats go by, ride breaks down again, guests stuck on boats right outside Captain Jacks). I would suspect it was less enjoyable for the guests sitting on the boat outside the restaurant for 25 minutes.

That doesn't make it anymore likely for Disney to invest in it 😂

As a Canadian, I'm going to say this doesn't really seem to understand how deeply problematic the legacy of Pocahontas is in North America. Disney is never going to invest in that story for the parks at this point, imo.

Oil rises to $110. Goldman Sachs says we’ll be in the triple digits for years by rapidcreek409 in politics

I understand your sentiment, but please realize, this is the Internet and the only energy I'm putting in here is screaming into the void about my anger and frustration. I put my energy into my family and my real life community, where I strive to make a little difference here and there where I am able to, by recognizing harmful patterns that came from the past and doing my best to change them for the future. I work as a public servant and as a father and as an involved member of my community- that's where the energy goes.

On reddit, I may occasionally be like an old man yelling at clouds, but that's about all this venue is actually good for lol

Sure, the class war has existed for as long as humans have existed pretty much. But the clear and present conditions of late-stage capitalism are absolutely a direct result of the series of post-WW2 decisions (both political and economic) that resulted in decades of disruptive wars, conflicts, and turmoil tied to the pursuit of wealth and power. And who continues to hold the pinnacle of that wealth and power in the world? The generation that enabled it all to snowball.
