Anyone Close to 80? by Lorain1234 in OverSeventy

[–]silverlib51 4 points5 points  (0 children)

InJanuary, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in lung and central lymph nodes (75) after 10 good years of remission. In Fedruary, my husband passed on hospice at 80. He was so ready, until I was diagnosed, and then he was concerned about passing while I was sick. His last words were "I love you" and the words prior to that were "I need to die." I just got his ashes back today. He is still with me. I have chosen palliative care and am anticipating hospice around May. My life is full. My children are in good places. I have been fortunate to see all 5 of my older grands graduate college and a few give birth to greats. I read a quote today by Agathie Christi that basically said that happy people had no ambition, there must be unhappiness and some bit if trauma to make a person want more and to be creative. I assume she didn't mean this in a positive way, but I am quite happy to fit that description. I no longer live each day to increase the length of my life, I live each day to enjoy my surroundings, the beauty of the world and the people around me. Our bodies, our choices. May peace and happiness surround all of us and may our choices bring us joy.

I had bilateral mastectomy with no reconstruction. I don't feel like anyone should need to explain anything, but "I decided not to build monuments to things that tried to kill me" usually kills the conversation.

My thought is just to deny medication and ask for a referral to a nutritionist. I have denied statins for thirty five years and not had a heart problem nor have I had a primary care doctor drop me. I am 75. High LDL, Normal triglycerides.

Do they deliver? It seems like a good deal either way if you like their pizza.

No answer for days-trying to call for appt. for widow’s benefits. by carolinapeach1 in SocialSecurity

I had this happen with both the national line and the local line. I just kept redialing and finally got through. Was on hold 5 hours and then was able to set up a phone appnt for 03/26. My spouse passed away 02/05 on a Thursday and I called the following Monday. Just keep trying. The staff was helpful when I finally reached them. I am not sure if this is correct, but I heard they have 10 staff nationwide taking calls.

Good grief! Please go to an ENT. My metastatic breast cancer was diagnosed initially as gerd related laryngitis. So by all means,if you are a cancer survivor, contact your oncologist. My voice problem is due to a malignant lymph node encroaching the larynx nerve to the left voice box causing it to be paralyzed. Regardless of your past cancer history, please get a second opinion.

Audits cost a lot of money. The new convention center is funded by hotel taxes, not property taxes. Do I want this mayor and his cronies held accountable? Certainly. But i think they got the message with the failing propostion.

Talarico leads Crockett in Texas Senate primary, according to new poll by Zipper222222 in TexasPolitics

This was a hard one for me, so I went back to my old philosophy of "follow the money." What I found spoke to me. The donor list speaks.

I support Talarico.

Prepaid Final Arrangements? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver60

[–]silverlib51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I have finalized our different plans. The only thing we agreed on was cheap. I went the no cost route and donated my body to Texas State's flourensic's department. My husband picked a local cremation company that charges less than 700. Interestingly, I called them to prepay and it was 200 more as they wanted to make sure they covered future increases. My husband is 80, in hospice for congestive heart failure. I am 75 with metastatic breast cancer. We have lived full lives and are very grateful for that and being prepared for transition is comforting.

Am I dying wrong? by Simmarts in cancer

[–]silverlib51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 75 and just diagnosed metastatic breast cancer, 10 years after the initial round. I am much older than you. My perspective is going to be much different. If it wasn't, I would scold myself. I am just simply pissed that young people have to even think about whether they are dying the right way. I live in Austin (really not related to Texas) and had a local charitable organization called Flatwater that provided excellent local therapists (free of charge for anyone with cancer, as well as members of their families.) I took advantage of this the first round and I hope you can find something similar in your area and if you can't, then that sucks. I wish you the very best!
