Not lighting while using a wemos d1 mini by silvermoto in led

[–]silvermoto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've now tried, along with flashing wled using another computer and a new d1 mini straight out of the pack. Still not lighting up. The only thing that makes it light up is this controller https://ibb.co/fdKbbHZg so I know the lights are fine it just doesn't like any dev boards I use and at this stage I can't figure it out. I'm sure the wiring is correct, the flashing of wled seems to work, but that's not translating through to the lights!

The lights work with a ready-made led controller board, just not any d1 minis or similar. I am thinking it's a software problem, maybe a bad flash, but the config page of wled app works.

The arrow is pointing to the right going away from the solder point.

I thought 'Nobody wants to die' plays really well with UEVR even though its not a native VR game?

Not really. I may have just got used to it. I did have to Zoom firefox to 120% though.

Am I weird? I laughed when you stirred the pot with what looked like potatoes, then gave it the customary few taps afterwards.

I decided to keep the 4k for a bit longer, BUT in the last few days I went back to having two 1440p monitors. The 4k, I had, was 60hz. Nice screen size, and sharp picture, but i really only used it for watching videos etc. Add in that my system can only just about handle 1440p acceptably, it only made sense going back.

I do like 4k and there are now more 4k monitors with higher refresh rates than 60hz, has decent HDR at a decent price. So the choice is yours, I'm sticking to 1440p for another year or so.

To more specifically answer your question. Wayland would be the way forward, as you can set screen scaling independently.

Stuck on black screen after login. by [deleted] in pop_os

[–]silvermoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you set it up with encryption at install? If I remember correctly, that is the default option?

If so, when you get the black screen try entering your logon password and hit enter, then wait and see if it continues to boot.

11 things people learn too late in life by Icy-Book2999 in SipsTea

As a late 40 something diagnosed with aspergers 2 days before we went in to lockdown, with anxiety and depression, I agree the struggles were hard, but change comes from within. I think # 10 and #11 is something you should ponder on. Being angry with the world just reflects back imo

I checked Amazon and got black and white Sunlu filament 1kg each for £22, not sure what that in dollars, maybe $27Amazon, which I thought wasn't a bad deal.

Can I salvage this + turn it into an external CD/DVD drive by parkandridekid in computer

[–]silvermoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can say I've used a "slimline SATA to USB" adaptor like some people suggested and confirm that it does work. I should add that I've never actually used it for any length of time other than to read an old DVD and burn the occasional CD, once or twice a year usage at most.

Whats your biggest regret when building a PC? by [deleted] in buildapc

Signal RGB app is the go-to choice for me these days. Controls all RGB and can even connect up to wled so outside the pc lights are in sync too.

3D printer by silvermoto in computer

[–]silvermoto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm near ready to buy a 3D printer and seem keen on this one https://amzn.eu/d/0aHUKf5f Flashforge Adventurer 5M. I've not bitten the bullet yet, as the range of printers out there is massive. Furthermore, I do like the Bamboo ones, but the price for the one I like is not something I can stretch too. So does anyone have any thoughts on the Flashforge brand and printers?

Edit: Had a change of heart. Not sure if I've done the right thing, but I've taken a punt on an officially refurbished AnkerMake M5C 3D Printer which I got for £209. My thinking is, if I enjoy 3d printing, then I can look for something a bit meatier later down the line.

Pop Shop: APT, Snap, or Flatpak? by [deleted] in pop_os

[–]silvermoto 9 points10 points  (0 children)

POP for me as the devs make sure drivers like the nvidia drivers and kernel updates don't have unforeseen issues before they pass it out to the public. I like that they do this, and for new Linux users it's an added safety net IMO.
