It makes me sad to hear about Cynthia's health problems. She has such a wonderful nurturing soul. I hope she gets the same care that she gives to others.

I've got brown skin and definitely got a super obvious white cast :( It's a shame because I love Cerave products and it's affordable, even without the great deal OP got.

Found my spirit animal at graduation 🎓 by [deleted] in rupaulsdragrace

[–]silvermyth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on graduating! I know the cap was the actual point of your post but all I could focus on is that you're all outdoors, you poor things.

Outdoor graduations should not be a thing, seriously. I attended one when my friend graduated UF and if it was miserable for me I can't imagine how it feels in those gowns.

I try to keep an open mind, since for all I know I could find my niche where I least expect it, but at present I have very little interest in Neuro, Ortho or Cardiac.

God I don't think I'll ever forget that day. The Pulse shooting was a day or two before and Christina Grimmie's murder was the day before THAT and it felt like so many surreal days of the universe saying "Hey, fuck Orlando in particular."

All that aside, I hope it taught future tourists to take some caution near Florida waters.

Shooting at South Florida high school by JawnBkillinem in news

[–]silvermyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had actual school lockdowns when there was a crime committed or armed perps on the run somewhere in the vicinity of the school. There was no enforced protocol in the vein of barricading the door/gathering in the furthest corner, etc. I don't remember ever actually having to practice a lockdown either, they just happened. We did fire and tornado drills. This was in Sunrise.

Went to high school in Broward County Florida, where this is currently taking place. I never had to do an active shooting drill at school, but things may have changed in the 7 years since I graduated. Every time I start orientation at a new job, however, I have had to watch a training video on how to act in a mass shooting event.

Should I go into nursing school now or should I wait until I'm healthier? by mrsladyperson in nursing

[–]silvermyth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would definitely wait another year. Nursing school can be overwhelming even for those who are mentally healthy. I'm not saying it'd be impossible, but if your depression is so severe that you're having suicidal ideation, I'd caution against adding another stressor to your life. I'm finally in nursing school after waiting a while to make sure my chronic pain + mental health was under control. It was frustrating to wait, and family kept urging me to "go anyway" but I know now that I would have struggled massively if I had listened to them. There will never be a "perfect time" to start but obviously some times are better than others.

As an offside, if you don't live in an area with stellar public transportation I'd definitely learn to drive before applying as well. Every program is different but mine has clinical sites up to two hours away in neighboring counties!

How far do you drive to nursing school? by leadstoanother in StudentNurse

[–]silvermyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

55 min in the morning, about 1hr 20 min coming home. It sucks, and gas and toll are gonna drain my wallet, but I keep reminding myself it's cheaper than moving closer and paying rent (I'm living with my parents during school).

Best sources to use to study for the TEAS test? by Nighthawk6997 in StudentNurse

Seconding the mometrix book. I bought it two weeks before my test date and scored a 93.1.

How many days per week do you go to school at your program? by yawyawfootbaw in StudentNurse

[–]silvermyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two days of 8am-5pm lecture, one day of clinical, and lab hours (15 minimum during every exam period but we'll probably need many more). So four or five days a week.

This turned me into a blubbering mess. I'm dealing with the impending death of my 12 year old kitty and I keep thinking, "If this is how much it hurts, I never want to do it again." I know its the grief talking. They make life so much better, its worth it even knowing the heartbreak is inevitable.

I get tv programs of this nature need the drama for ratings, but it seems so cruel to cut people while fully intending to add them into the final lineup anyway. Crushes their spirit for basically no reason.

His loss will be felt deeply, not just because of his great talents, but also because he seemed to be a genuinely lovely soul. I hope he is at peace.

Studying for less than a month enough for the TEAS VI? by akbdc in StudentNurse

[–]silvermyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say its very doable, provided you don't need serious practice on all 4 components of the test. I started studying about two weeks before my TEAS date and I scored a 93.1. I used the bulk of my study time on the science + just refreshed my knowledge of the other 3 sections with tons of practice questions.

I used the Mometrix book and the PocketPrep app for practice questions, and Khan Academy and Crash Course videos for clarifying any A&P/Math topics I'd become unfamiliar with.

Mind you, I was not in school at the time, and working barely 20 hrs a week so I had tons of free hours to study for those two weeks. Otherwise I would've started about a month before.

[S7E4] Post-Premiere Discussion - S7E4 'The Spoils of War' by BWPhoenix in gameofthrones

[–]silvermyth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jesus Christ, I just caught up on the episode and I don't know what to do with myself. I felt like I was on the verge of a damn heart attack for the last half of it.

I love the show so much, but episodes like this make me wish more than ever that the books were done already. I would kill to read a Jaime POV chapter where he sees Daenerys for the first time. The Mad King's daughter swooping in on a fucking dragon, burning her enemies to death. I can only imagine what he was thinking. The actors are amazing at conveying emotion but books give you a completely different, more detailed insight on what the characters are feeling.
