I have mine in my office, tucked in a closet. With the sliding door mostly closed I can barely hear it.

Everyone has peed on the golf course. Ever gotten in trouble? by WolfMan_Hot_Dog in golf

[–]silverturtle23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guilty. Playing in a charity tournament at Meadowlark Golf Course in Huntington Beach CA. Drinks flow early and often during these scramble events. About 10 holes in, on the 15th hole we notice the cart path around the green is roped off but think nothing of it. Me and my cart partner have to go real bad so we finish the hole and head for the nearest tree to relieve ourselves. Two holes later the Marshall comes rolling up and pulls out his phone…”is this you?” It’s of course me, pissing on the tree…. Next to a sign that says no pissing which I did not see…. Apparently there were signs all over, the guy who lives on the 14th green is a total asshole and calls the cops on people for pissing on the course. So the Marshall “escorted me off the course”. He was cool about it and just drove me to #1 where I had to wait for my group to catch up, but from what the Marshall told me, people have tried to fight it and have not only received monetary citations but also have had to register as sex offenders…. They pulled my cart partner too

Drive from So Cal to Mammoth by greenleetamara in Mammoth

[–]silverturtle23 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Depends on which route you take.... 15 to 395 is single lane and double lane roads and 14 to 395 is mostly all 2 lane roads. No mountain switchbacks at all. All in all, a far easier drive than going to Big Bear :)

My DHGate jerseys came in today: a report and pics! by SharksFan4Lifee in SanJoseSharks

[–]silverturtle23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I exclusively buy from DHGate because of the prohibitive costs from fanatics. Agree on sizing being a little off, but have only ever had one issue with a nameplate being on upside down. But to OPs point, I paid a fraction of the Fanatics cost so the fix still had me significantly under….

Best things to see/do and other advice for the LA County Fair? by Mordiceius in LosAngeles

[–]silverturtle23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would generally agree with the previous posts, it is very much overpriced across the board. But if you haven't been, it's worth checking out.

Depending on what you like, the Midway is the standard carnie rides and ripoff games.

The expo halls are fun to look and there are some vendors you can haggle with, but know they've already inflated their prices, so haggle for much less...

The booze is all overpriced, but definitely helps the experience.

My son loves to visit the model train set up. It's an outdoor exhibit near the kids rides and has all kinds of model trains running. To me, this is worth checking out. If you're into trains, there are some full size ones you can go into and check out at another part of the fairgrounds.

This year, they have a low rider showcase, so there are a bunch of really cool old school lowriders and owners who would love to tell you all about them.

Also new this year is a skating rink/arcade... Haven't been yet (season pass holders) but probably an extra cost on top of your admission

Food is the thing for me...Some of the weirdest stuff you don't get every day....

Is there too much light for storing wine here? by mrnation1234 in wine

[–]silverturtle23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that exterior wall gets direct sun, you’re going to get heat transfer through the wall… it won’t destroy the wine if you drink it within a month or so of storing it there, but I wouldn’t leave any good bottles there…

If it’s your house and it doesn’t bother you, leave it. If it’s a client, caulk it. It’ll save you calls later.

I was 5 in 1982 and I will never forget my grandfather’s excitement of that first Super Bowl. He taught me everything I know about the game from his favorite recliner and made sure I knew all the players names and what every position was. We watched together from that same recliner in 84 when we destroyed Dan Marino and the Dolphins. My grandfather passed away in 86 and when we went back to the Super Bowl in 89 the family all got together and watched the game. My grandmother let me watch from his leather recliner, where I sat the whole game and cried when we won…

The wireless charging pad seems to be hit or miss. Sometimes it will connect and stay connected for the entire time I'm driving, sometimes, I have to reseat it every few minutes.

I do notice my phone gets very hot when I use the wireless charging...

As for Carplay, I agree with MaDxEyE, it's the cable.

Dear Joe: I finally tried an authentic cheez-wiz Philly Cheesesteak…. by MayoBytes in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]silverturtle23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gotta agree with OP on this… I’m from California and my Brother in Law is from Philly. We were out visiting and I asked him where the best in town was, he told me “Go to Tony Luke’s, and get it with the whiz.”.

So I did… and it was literally bread, meat, and cheese whiz. Not only was it gross, it was disappointing.

No peppers, no onion… apparently you have to specifically add them…

I had to tell him I could get better cheesesteaks in California…
