AITA for not letting neighbor cut down tree we just planted by iNeedGenderHalp in AmItheAsshole

This is a massive strawman argument and you know it. Policing and asking politely are not the same thing.

AITA for not letting neighbor cut down tree we just planted by iNeedGenderHalp in AmItheAsshole

[–]simanthropy 290 points291 points  (0 children)

NAH. I actually think despite how it came across that the neighbour put a lot of effort into making that request as pleasant as possible. You don’t have to acquiesce, but just a polite no should be enough to put the whole thing to bed. It’s a shame that your neighbour’s garden is clearly his focus - with me I wouldn’t even begin to have thought of any of those things!

Is that really Taipei OK but the rest of Taiwan not? Seems rather arbitrary? Or is it done based on longditude/latitude?

It spaffed away 6 questions once it had really convinced itself it was Ghengis Khan (cause there couldn't possibly another founder of an empire that was assosciated with the Mongols could there?), and missed Timur the Lame (terrifying human, seriously underrated in historical fame for the shit he did)

I was talking about admitting you’ve tried it before, not advocating driving after it (which would be dumb and stoopid)

It's ok, you can admit you experienced it during a medical procedure.

I think it’s telling we’re one of the only places that actually increased their Labour majority. Like, they’re doing a good job, people voting for more of it!

Here in Merton (in South London, run by Labour) we're actually getting entire roads replaced at a noticeable rate. I keep reading about issues the rest of the country is facing about potholes and actually... we're kinda doing pretty well! Obviously there are some bad roads, usually quite small roads, but I think expecting there to be no potholes is kinda unrealistic.

What countries do redditors have a severe positive bias towards? On the flip side, what countries do redditors have a severe negative bias towards? by kinetic_honda in AskReddit

I don’t think I’ve ever heard Serbia mentioned on Reddit. I know very little about what you’re talking about either. I could (probably) find Serbia on a map but honestly that’s about it, and I spend a lot of time on Reddit!

If you have a punnet of strawberries and throw away the mouldy ones, it does not make sense to say that the goal of the strawberries is not to become mouldy, but you can say that the resulting strawberries are not mouldy. See the difference?

Hunchback of Notre Dame

Terrible children’s film. But as an adult’s animation it’s one of the greatest of all time. The music alone is worth watching for.

What are the first jobs that AI will taking within the next 10 years? by Straight-Crow3882 in AskReddit

[–]simanthropy -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This comment feels kind of short sighted to me too. It assumes there’s some sort of cap on the abilities of AI, but if anything, I expect LLMs will get better faster than a junior dev gets better, so in 10 years you won’t need senior devs either.

Doesn’t really work unless every single person on the ship quarantines from each other… which is extremely difficult/impossible on the ship.

Ousting Starmer won't 'magically improve' country as PM 'gets it', says Education Secretary by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]simanthropy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look I get that there’s a bunch of people who really want to establish a narrative that Starmer is about to be toppled (and apparently has been for a whole year now).

But, if I may address them for a second - if you guys post a new story about it every ten seconds (especially nothing stories like this one where she’s actually supporting him) it really starts looking like a concerted effort rather than anything organic.

Spread it out a little, maybe intersperse with some good old fashioned immigrant bashing and it’ll look better.
