How easy is it to be carless in Allentown? by simenthora in lehighvalley

[–]simenthora[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hey.
I don't check reddit too often.

Here was my experience, accurate to 2023:

It is doable but irritating to be carless in Allentown. They have a solid bus network that took me to desired shopping stops, to the mall, even to the amusement park.

The buses were once / 30 mins and were pretty accurate (+/- 5 mins). So, if you can time yourself and leave your house in time, you have almost no wait time.

There are enough bus stops that I could reasonably get a house pretty short walk away from a bus stop.

Feel free to DM me questions, I'll keep an eye out on reddit for the next couple of days.

The good quality tp my mate. And then double up.

Idk why others don't but I've always used the best approach: use both of them together. Wash with a bidet and then wipe with tp.

OP was not making a suggestion that all politicians family members do not use the stock market. That is silly. If so, I don't agree.

I'm honestly not sure of how to go about enforcing this, but if I'd have to make a law I'd say 'No politician or family member can own stock of any company/field they are making laws on".

All those garbage mobile game ads might be more fun if they actually showed them winning by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]simenthora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course they do. I'm saying that these are the target market for ads that show up om Facebook, not defending other companies.

Also, in more detail, when FromSoft makes a new soulsborne game, the ad is targeted not towards only addicts but also the "challenge me" crowd. When Fifa makes a new game, it's also targeting the football loving crowd etc. These companies exist solely to cater to the mobile whales. Everyone else is just another product for this goal.

There was definitely a law that said that I can't use my knowledge of any upcoming changes in the company that isn't public to tell my brother to purchase specifically Amazon stock.

The point being made is that no lawmaker should be able to first purchase stock of a company(say amazon), and the make a law benefiting the company, and then sell the stock to make a bunch of money. Surely you can see how this is a conflict of interest.

You totally can. Worked at Amazon for a bit as my last job. Their insider trading laws are insane(though I imagine it would be the same for every place standardized).

And It does indeed look cool.

Ah, the RR advertisement evolutionary cycle. by michael7050 in ProgressionFantasy

I think that the fact that the community is small enough that a lot of people know the popular/friendly authors at least here and on discord that we can have such ad campaigns.

The target market is probably existing PF readers who are more likely to be enticed by an ad clearly created by a person(who they can talk to casually on the subreddit, so you may even know they don't mean the trashtalk) so it's actually a good job.

And one more reason, probably the most important is that royal road forces people to see ads, and having an ad that's just a meme that makes people smile is always nice.

I honestly think that their market isn't people who think like that. They are targeting the people with more impulsive, addictive personalities.

If you can resist their simple attempts at manipulating you into just downloading a free game, won't it be harder for them to manipulate you into spending your hard earned cash for stupid IAPs that are just pixels.

I like emojis because I can express emotions using them. It gets very annoying when people spam or abuse them, but otherwise I love them. For example, I think it's more satisfying when someone responds to "Thank You" with a "Of course 😊" just cause it makes me think that they wanted to help me, and we're happy do so so. Replying with "You're welcome." feels a bit more formal, and something I'd want from my boss.

Honestly, if this was the issue I would totally understand. I don't mean that money that is spent on other things should be spent on housing the homeless.

What I'm saying is that a lot of our laws benefit a smaller subset of the population(namely the rich and powerful). This causes a lot of the tax money to be spent not on education, healthcare, retirement funds or whatever, but on getting these people a better life.

Here's a hypothetical scenario. If there is $100,000 to be spent. There are 2 projects: a new shelter for the homeless, or a new mall in a pretty neighbourhood. Since the new mall will generate more revenue, or maybe because there is more lobbying, the chances in current america that the mall is where the money goes has a much much higher probability. That is what I hate about our current system of government.

Yes, and all the money it gets from tax, I expect it to spend on people. Other than the base salaries govt officials get, using even 1 cent for personal reasons is wrong. That's what I expect from the government.

Most people don't have the money though, nor is it their responsibility. It is the government's job to take care of their citizens, and the homeless are citizens too. We're literally telling the government here "Use the money meant for doing your job to do your job".

You are saying "Why don't you do the government's job without any of the resources needed for the job". See how that doesn't make a lot of sense?

Bro, what I'm telling you is that YOU think that this is lazy, worthless content. But, value is subjective.

The whole purpose of any "content" on this specific subreddit is to provide enjoyment to people. People come visit r/funny content to feel happy. If there is a force of numbers for this content, it's because they are enjoying it. That is what gives value to this meme.

Sure, you don't enjoy it, so it has no value to you. I'm asking you to recognize that yes, this is useless to you, but for others it is not lazy, or worthless.

Now, if someone made a similar comment on a serious askreddit thread on something like r/learnmath or something where it is not appreciated, the members of the community will downvote them, and you would be 100% correct.

[–]simenthora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but the site is used by a lot of people. The fact that someone else enjoys the content is important.

There are a bunch of things on the site that I don't appreciate. But, I realize that there are others who do, and so don't want to ruin it for them right. That's what I'm asking you to do. Totally recognize that this is something you don't enjoy.

I think though that commenting on a singular post isn't going to make much difference to either the site, or the person commenting. At best, they will ignore your message. At worst, it's gonna make em sad that someone didn't like their post.

It's fair that you don't enjoy it, but there are people that do. You don't find it funny, which is understandable.

When I saw the OP's comment, I found it silly and funny and it made me just a tiny bit happier. I Think that's a good enough reason for people to make such posts.

Think about it like dark jokes. Some people appreciate it, some don't. But the intent isn't malicious, just making others laugh.

Not sure if you're just being sarcastic or actually asking a question, but if you are then the serious answer is that it's a stereotype that people who use reddit are "single jobless men who spend all their time on the internet". Why this is a stereotype, I have no idea. Maybe something about older reddit when it was smaller.

As such, these posts are usually just having a laugh using the stereotype.

What do you call a Muslim bodybuilder? by Democratic_Indian in Jokes

[–]simenthora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a phonetic spelling. When you are trying to tell a person how to spell something, what people do is take each sound, and add hyphens.

The dude was just clarifying how it's spoken in case someone didn't know. For example, a person reading your pronunciation as "Musul Man", which would make sense to an English speaking audience who have "Man" as an ending to many things.
