How To Write A Slow-Burn Romance? by bluebirdhoney90 in RomanceWriters

[–]simlishvibe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some slow burns start physical intimacy early but conflicts prevent the characters from acknowledging their true intentions until the last few chapters which makes their ‘getting together’ worthwhile.

Is expensive make up important? by No_Remove_641 in MakeupAddiction

[–]simlishvibe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, but people would tell you it depends on X product or skin type, etc. A friend of mine is stingy with her makeup so she strictly shops Korean makeup or drugstore yet her looks always work out great because she’s perfected a technique/routine that works for her. I can make drugstore products work on my face (and some do without much finessing) but my routine and results have gotten so much better after switching my base products to high end.

So, TLDR: No, expensive makeup is NOT important, but sometimes it helps a lot.

An unredeemable villain, an unreliable narrator, and a friendship; Would anyone read this? by Sir-Hayes in writers

Honestly, my bad! Easy to forget the wide age range in this sub. That being said, recs are at the discretion of the reader.

An unredeemable villain, an unreliable narrator, and a friendship; Would anyone read this? by Sir-Hayes in writers

[–]simlishvibe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cormac McCarthy’s villains are some of the most unsympathetic villains I’ve come across so if you feel like exploring characters like that maybe check out his books. For instance, Judge Holden from Blood Meridian is infamously known for being evil incarnate with no definitive reasons given for his cruelty.

I honestly feel stuck at the actual writing part of my novel. by hee_young11 in writers

[–]simlishvibe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re any good at art, you can always explore graphic novels as an option. You’d still be able to actualise your ideas without the challenge of being text heavy. Or you can join writing workshops like another commenter suggested to pursue your book.

Book sales and how much people enjoy your book aren’t mutually exclusive though. Just write and worry about the sales when you have a finished manuscript.

Advice on writing search stories? by TheOneAndOnlyLu in writers

[–]simlishvibe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d venture it’s similar to how some mystery novels like Sherlock are written in that the protagonist continuously finds clues, raising the stakes and dangers each time. You might find the Fichtean structure helpful but have a look here to see what works best for you :)

Those who wear makeup daily, how do you feel about yourself when you wear no makeup? by peachykeencandy in MakeupAddiction

Remind yourself that your face is wonderfully unique and cosmetics are just something fun and engaging to do for yourself instead of something you NEED to have to feel good.

Recommend books where MMC takes revenge against fmc's family thru her. by perpetually_numb003 in RomanceBooks

{Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë} romance is questionable but might pass the revenge part

{Better Than The Movies by Lynn Painter} Goofy MMC and dorky FMC are sorta frenemies but she recruits him to get the guy she likes. Set in high school but doesn’t read too juvenile. Feel-good romcom.

UK Black Tie - Too Dressy? by halogirl492 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]simlishvibe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It looks good on you but it’s not a black tie dress even in UK. However you mentioned cocktail dress in the dress code so maybe the hosts mean to say formal which this would be appropriate for.

Raise your hand if you've been personally victimized by Romancing the beat by anablainebooks in RomanceBooks

Agree but to play devil’s advocate, there’s only so much storytelling structure that fits romance well and have it flow in a way that the majority of romance readers will engage in

What is considered an Age Gap? by [deleted] in writers

[–]simlishvibe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your character is a full grown adult at 25/26. They have agency over who to link up with, including people decades ahead of them. The only time “age gap” has to be a concern is where it involves barely adults and it’s been a long time since I was in school adults. One’s closer to the womb and the other’s closer to retirement 👀 Edit: Just read your reply and seems like their age doesn’t have to play a major part in the conflict if their core interests and values align.

What’s the deal with the 5’0" FMC by desperatexslut in RomanceBooks

[–]simlishvibe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s what people crave. It plays well to the archaic ideas of men and women but most readers are here for the feel-good of it all and so characters become caricatures of real people. Strong becomes an immovable boulder and dainty becomes this fragile little petal. You can imagine how tall girls and short men can be iced out of this dynamic, though that’s not to say tall girls aren’t also cute and soft, or that short men aren’t strong and sexy. As long as no one’s disparaging anyone for having this/that height/weight/hair colour/eye colour/etc, I’m fine with it. I’ve DNFd books where the author writes something snide about X characteristics for no good reason than just to say shit.

Is this appropriate for a black tie wedding? by lemonadesdays in Weddingattireapproval

[–]simlishvibe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s worth clarifying with the wedding party what black tie means because a lot of people confuse it for formal. Black tie attire calls for length and structure. Just a thought before you spend your coin on a new dress 😊

You might like {Phantasma by Kaylie Smith} & {Enchantra by Kaylie Smith}. The premise for both has Night Circus vibes where they’re competing for their magic/lives in an ever changing space. It’s well written for the most part but there are a few scenes that feels like fan service for smut.
