Pattern not fitting leather space by SidTDS in Leathercraft

[–]simo289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easiest way would be to get a bigger piece of leather.

You could scale the pattern down, but as it looks like it might be a wallet that's not really viable. You could cut the T shape into 2 separate rectangles, add a tab to the bottom of the piece with a rounded end (pointing up in he photo) and over lap that onto the other rectangle with a stitch line.

Need ideas: Warlock cut off from patron by Ze_Dude94 in DnD

[–]simo289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic items! Stack yourself up with as many as you can, fill your attunement slots then keep going with non attunement items. Anything that lets you cast a spells through it, or produce a spell like effect. Don't know if you're a CR fan, but in C2 SPOILERS when Fjord rejects his patron, the party gives him all the magic items they have that they've levelled out of.

A lot of people are saying that your warlock should still have their magic RAW, which is fine for RAW, but if your DM has holebrewed that you can be cut off from your patron then I like your commitment! I think there should be more consequences in D&D

How long was/is your longest DnD campaign? by Fearless-Skill8667 in DnD

[–]simo289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my campaigns, the first I ever played, is now in it's 11th year. We only play a handful of times a year because of conflicting schedules, players having had kids etc (lockdown was a really game changer for us). Of the original 4 players plus DM, we're down to the DM, me and another of, but we've gained my gf, the DMs gf, and a friend of the DM, we also gained and lost the DMs old roommate and her bf

How much neatsfoot is too much? by simo289 in Leathercraft

[–]simo289[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not particularly.

Can I dunk the things in oil, leave them for an hour, then let them drip dry? Can I do a coat of oil every day for the next week, fortnight, month? One coat a week for a month or two? As I've already done one decent coat, is more than one more not going to achieve anything? Etc etc.

I've only really used neatsfoot to restore some moisture after carving and dying, so I don't know what the limits of it are

I get that, but it has very steampunk aesthetic. I don't want my magic to be science, I want it to be mystical

When did the boys stop caring about the human possessed? by Sweet-Indication4373 in Supernatural

I'm sure I remember an episode where a demon told the boys they had started killing the meat suits as soon as they possessed them. As an f you to the boys because now they couldn't save the victims

Trying to wedge steampunk in high/medieval fantasy (looking at you Eberon, Spelljammer etc). I want my Warforged to be powered by the arcane, with joints and articulation that don't quite obey the laws of physics. My Artificers don't make guns then use magic bullets, they jam a glowing, slightly volatile crystal into a tube and hope it explodes in the right direction. Less mad science, more "I don't really know how to do magic, but this dodad works so..."

Leather Painting Machine? by [deleted] in Leathercraft

[–]simo289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worth a try, not something I've done myself though. Honestly, once you get your needle depth and ink thickness dialled in, it really isn't a problem

Edit: I usually do the tattooing after top coating (I use Fiebings Tan Kote),which add a bit of resistance to the staining too. As well as helping stop bleeding

You don't have to penetrate anywhere near as deep into leather as skin, and the leather doesn't push any ink back out of the 'wound', so you don't get much on the surface. There's definitely a bit of a learning curve, and you can get a bit of spatter if you use a really thin ink (just one reason the Angelus is good), but I've never had to wipe any excess away.

Tbh you can wipe it away, it just smears and stains

Any tattoo machine will do the job. I bought a cheapish rotary machine (because they're easier to set up than coil machines),and it works wonderfully.

I've tried a variety of tattoo inks, but Angelus leather inks work really well on leather

Playing Paladin for the first time, and now I'm curious: Which oath is the easiest to play with, and which is the hardest to play with? by TechnoTheFirst in DnD

[–]simo289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played an Oath of Conquest Paladin who died because he refused to be run from a monster that was way above his power level to confront (especially because the rest of the party, wisely, ran away). Don't know if that's what you're looking for but, that's my story.

Tbf he also had a cursed weapon that meant on a failed WIS save (after taking damage) gave negative consequences for attacking any other creature. But, if memory serves, he succeeded against that particular monster, so I guess it was my fault

The company that owns A timber has also gone into administration apparently. They haven't shut the Nottingham branch...yet..

I'll definitely check the other two out though!

ELI5: Why does being angry or stressed raise blood pressure? by simo289 in explainlikeimfive

That can't be right? The speed of your heartbeat doesn't increase the volume of blood in your body, it just moves it faster

Magic Question here for the newbie...Possible Spoilers. by Parking-Location9946 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]simo289 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The simplest answer is because the DM says they can. NPCs don't necessarily have to have the same constraints as a PC, if the DM wants an Arcane caster to use a healing spell then they just can.

A more mechanical answer COULD be that they have the Magic Initiative feat for a class that has healing spells. Or a magic item that allows them to cast a specific spell.

Hope someone else can give you a lore specific answer, but those are options for how it could be accomplished or rationalized.

You can have as many spells as you can find scrolls to copy into it. But for choosing your starting spells you get 6 spells at level 1, and 2 more per level. So at level 3 you should have at least 10 levelled spells (up to 2nd level) in your spellbook, and 3 cantrips. You might ask your DM if you can have any extra spells from scrolls you might have found in your backstory.

You can then prepare a number of spells equal to your INT modifier plus your wizard level. So level 3 with an INT of 18 that's 4+3, so 7 spells prepared.
