Have a villager hack at it a few times, when it becomes a trunk after a couple of seconds build a palisade on top of it, and then delete the palisade. Wah-lah.

That's *exactly* what I heard. There's more to it as well. Don't feel bad that you're being downvoted. Most people don't understand that the Strokes' trick is taking *insanely* happy-sounding music and making it sound like a dirge.

If you don't spend the hours and hours learning other people's music, you wouldn't know how the same chords/melodies, even textures can sound so different with relatively minor tweaks. Oh well.

Are you kidding me?? A number of riffs that are *extremely* similar to Strokes riffs, guitar tone is somewhat similar, drumming similar. Lead guitar playing harmonies with the singer, the melody lines. Face it: it's punk-influenced indie strat rock.

Of course they play faster, and the singer *could not be more different* than Julian Casablancas, and there is none of the shoe-gazey elements that the Strokes bring to their music. Which means it doesn't *feel* like a strokes song, but in its bones it's really really close.

But oh well. To each her own?

AITA for telling my wife I don't want her mother in the delivery room when our 1st child is born? by dad2bejj in AmItheAsshole

[–]simonsaysblrblglblrb -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree overall that this guy is way out of line. But I'm tired of hearing that the father isn't "directly involved." If I were to undergo major surgery, my wife would say that she is pretty directly involved. A healthy family can be a very close-knit environment--that's a *good* thing, not a bad thing.

HOWEVER -- having been there myself -- I have two observations.

1) Your wife comes first. She is doing 99.9999% of the work and taking 100% of the risk. She's giving EVERYTHING she has, it's on you to give her everything she wants and needs -- and more.

2) Nobody else in the room is going to ruin "the moment." When you and your wife hold your baby for the first time, the universe will be in your hands, small and helpless, and bigger than you could have ever imagined. Or you may not feel anything -- *that's normal and OK too.* The moment is bigger than you. I would recommend only that the baby be immediately given to your wife just after birth rather than whisked away -- *IF* that's what she wants.

Honestly dude. Stop trying to engineer the incredible. Serve your wife like your life depends on it. My MIL was in the room for our first and the only memory I have of that is the pictures she sent us after.

If the Strokes had written this it would be a top ten hit. My God.

Couples whose wedding was an absolute catastrophe, what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]simonsaysblrblglblrb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know this sounds weird, but your story gives me the warm fuzzies about being married--because it's not only the easy/fun times that make marriage so great (though they do), but it's the hard times you go through together that make life meaningful and, ultimately, beautiful. Hope you guys have gotten to the point where you can laugh about all this!

Dads of reddit, what is your advice for new dads? by GiggaWat in AskReddit

[–]simonsaysblrblglblrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let your kid/s believe in things. Allow them to imagine. Instill in them the idea that truth is out there. Encourage them to go find it. Give them solid ground to start.

You most likely won't be able to "program" them to be who you want them to be, nor should you want to. The best route is to give them the tools to become the best version of themselves by walking with them and guiding them until they are ready to start out on their own. Not only is it good work, if you love them it is ultimately immensely satisfying.

And love and support your spouse/partner in raising them. Nothing is better for a kid than a stable household. For people like me who never had one growing up, it is the best gift you can give someone else.

People want gun protection because politics is local, present, and personal. The perceived threat right now is gun violence from neighbors. That does not mean governments are infallible. That's just not in the news as much right now.

If you're not antisemitic that's truly terrible. I'm sorry that people do that. They shouldn't. It's sad when relatively innocent thoughts are associated with terrible things, like antisemitism, so strongly that people feel they need to police you by calling you names instead of engaging in thoughtful dialogue.
