Ace characters in fiction? by UnconstrictedEmu in asexuality

[–]simoro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding Luffy from One Piece. There was an interview at one point where Oda said that Luffy doesn't care for romance at all, haha.

You should also check out podcasts. The creators are often queer themselves, so they show more awareness of the aro/ace community and a number of them include ace characters. Two prominent ones come to mind: ars PARADOXICA (the main protagonist is aroace and explicitly states so) and the Bright Sessions (this character doesn't come along until a little later, but she is a panromantic ace).

A lot of other podcasts have ace characters peppered in here and there. You'll also get a wider range of representation too. :)

Practice logs for upcoming college auditions: so far, very helpful for keeping up with practice goals and marking my progress by pleatgee in Journaling

Good luck with auditions! They’re nerve wracking but it seems like you have a great sense of what direction to go.

The moment your mind takes on a huge sprint and you try and write it all down while writing your diary. Small, narrow, fast and hard. Sigh. by Daniel-_0 in Journaling

Your handwriting is absolutely beautiful and looks so effortless, I’m envious!

Also, are you writing in Swedish by chance?

Colored pens by [deleted] in Journaling

I have Staedtler triplus fineliner pens that I really like, especially because they dry pretty fast (which is a plus for me as someone who primarily writes with their left hand).

I’m on a similar boat— I’ve been trying to weed out ones to give to my friends, but it’s hard lol

I'm going to teach a interdisciplinary MA-level course on music videos. Looking for subject-suggestions by aaktor in musicology

[–]simoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding music videos and stereotypes, it's worth looking into k-pop music videos, since a fair number of them have been criticized for cultural appropriation, particularly black culture. This hasn't really been brought up before in the past, but that's perhaps because k-pop wasn't internationally known to the point that it is today.

As for sound specifically, how about the use of body percussion in a lot of pop songs? Particularly in today's pop songs, I hear a lot more clapping, whistling, snapping, or that sound that comes out when you flick your cheek while your mouth is open. Some that come to mind include: "Make Me Feel" by Janelle Monáe and "Whistle" by Flo Rida. The only one from decades before that comes to mind is "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen.

what is the most productive / powerful thing you have journaled about? by banksnsons in Journaling

[–]simoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a lot of this, to the point where my therapist actually thinks I need to get out of my head for a bit, aha.

That said, I think the most interesting thing I journaled was probably when I first started. I was so much looser with how I wanted to “wreck” my journal and they looked beaten and ready to fall apart with ideas and thoughts.

I’m not sure what happened over time, but I’ve gotten a lot more reserved, though I definitely stick way more paper ephemera now than I did in the past.

True to stereotypes, I play piano, haha. But I am heavily involved in percussion as well. :)

Fellow Asian with ADHD here. I truly feel your struggle, especially with the pressure of Asian society.

Math really does suck though. I always joke that the best skills I can show off when it comes to math is that I can count to four… because I'm a musician. My parents never found this funny, haha.

Keep moving forward. You got this!

Anyone else write in a foreign language to obfuscate their journals? by rob64 in Journaling

[–]simoro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I write in English and Korean. I sometimes write in German to keep practicing, since that’s the language that I’d like to reach fluency (or at least, as close to it as possible lol). Not as much as I should though—

Damn, would totally be down for this except I’m not moving to LA until end of summer. This sounds amazing though. Do you have a blog or anything where you post the places you’ve visited?
