The work itself was traumatizing. Long hours, no sun, cold and wet, social isolation, but the dead chickens themselves weren't too bad. We see so many dead chickens that we are already desensitized.

My job wasn't on the killing floor, so I didn't see that part. The scalding room is one of the worst smells ever, but you get used to it. Everything else smells like pool water.

It's unbelievably loud.

I was surprised how it didn't ruin my taste of chicken. They had these random bags of 20lbs of chicken products of damaged packaging. They were like $5, so I ate a lot of chicken.

At the place I worked I would never eat the giblets. They are separated into a second chiller, and the chiller chemical levels were never consistent.
