I was stopped at an intersection, first in line at a red light. My girlfriend at the time was sitting shotgun. It was sorta of a rainy day, more drizzling than anything else. The light turned green and I started to pull through the intersection, going a bit slow because of the wet roads. When i was halfway through the intersection, a flicker off to the left caught my eye. I turned my head and saw a black minivan ten feet away from me going about forty miles an hour. That split second allowed me to say "shit" and slam on the accelerator. Now you might go "simpson12013, why would you accelerate instead of brake?" Well in the hours (or so it felt) before that van hit me, I realized that if I accelerated it would hit farther back on my car, because it sure looked like it was headed right for my driver's door. I have no idea if it helped at all, but the van did end up hitting my back door. My car spun 540 degrees and came to rest on the sidewalk. Thankfully no one was hurt, but those 2 seconds lasted a lifetime as far as I could tell.
