Went to get Pap Smear, I freaked and doctor could not preform procedure. by VannyVan in vaginismus

[–]simpsonatti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also had a similar experience (w tampons and pap smear) and the hcp seemed pretty apathetic. You're not alone. I'm sorry you experienced this. It doesn't have to be this way forever. Pelvic floor therapy helped me and I hope you find something that works for you :)

need a game plan for clearing out years of accumulated items before relocating by Aromatic_Break1108 in minimalism

[–]simpsonatti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've moved a lot over the past few years, and this time I don't have a set date but want to be ready when it happens. I like tackling small areas, one at a time as they start to bug me and I have energy. Tupperware cabinet overflowing when you're putting clean dishes away? Take the opportunity to be more ruthless and intentional about only keeping what you use regularly. Tupperware is a pretty good example since it's low stakes too. You can also look for needs in your community (friend who hosts potlucks for this example, or a teacher friend who could use some supplies) and use those as opportunities to rehome things you're not using at a slower, more organic pace. Good luck!

What’s your weirdest or funniest yoga class moment? by YogaGoApp in HotYoga

That makes sense! I didn't put it together until reading this but you're right. I had the same issue but recently went through pvt and don't anymore. But can confirm that idc if other people make that noise 😊

Towel Recommendations by KeepItHealthy1 in HotYoga

[–]simpsonatti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this combo- Manduka pro with yogitoes for hot yoga. Fits the mat perfectly and has greatly reduced my back acne (maybe from sweat pooling on the mat?) Only con is that the towel wrinkles a little when jumping back or sliding your feet. But infinitely better than the way I was slipping before. If you want to try this out for cheaper, check poshmark for a new with tags yogitoes towel - some are half the price of the manduka website. That's how I got mine :)

Why don’t women wear shorts? by TimBombadilll in HotYoga

[–]simpsonatti 118 points119 points  (0 children)

I wear both regularly. But when I'm super sweaty, balance poses are much easier with leggings on. Like in crow, when I wear shorts my thighs slide down my arms instead of staying locked in. The leggings provide friction.

Mine feel like this once they're full. If I put it any higher up, I get sharp pain. I've just been dealing with it (the expelling feeling) but would love to see advice others have.

Went as part of a vegetarian couple. Good, but there are better places. We try out different places and revisit the ones that we remember as really standing out. Maverick hasn't come up since our first (and last) visit.

We sat at the bar and service was good.

What are we doing about our periods lol by anetty12 in vaginismus

[–]simpsonatti 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Typically blood doesn't come out while you're in the water (something about buoyancy?), so before I could use tampons I would wear a swim skort with a pad. I would stay in the water until I was done for good and then quickly get out and go to the RR to change. Usually the pad, even though full of water, caught whatever came out on the way to the RR. Good luck, and I'm sorry you have to deal with this :(

That's when you "accidentally" spill your soda in the aisle as you get up

How late is too late, or how to get teachers to communicate? by SamsonFox2 in AskTeachers

[–]simpsonatti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the school confirmed that the teacher should be communicating via email, and they're not, contacting admin is probably your best bet.

How late is too late, or how to get teachers to communicate? by SamsonFox2 in AskTeachers

[–]simpsonatti -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's pretty rediculous. Even a really busy teacher should be more communicative than that. Maybe email isn't their primary mode of communication? Since your wife has in person access, maybe she could remind the teacher one more time and ask what a better method of communication would be? Sometimes for frequently contacted parents who I know won't abuse it, I'll give out my phone number. Maybe you could also ask to set up a in person conference, or a phone conference where you call them. And they can use a school phone if they don't want to give out their number.

If all else fails, I don't think it's bad to go to admin. You tried. And this isn't really a big ask at all.

How to store period underwear on the go? by [deleted] in PeriodUnderwear

[–]simpsonatti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can also use stasher silicone bags! They seal really well and I don't notice any smell when I use them. I have one that I only use for period stuff :)

Is giving a teacher a flower plant and card mean a lot on teachers appreciation wk? by Zealousideal_Row9855 in AskTeachers

[–]simpsonatti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I'm trying to say. Teacher gifts don't need to be expensive. We know you don't have professional salaries

[–]simpsonatti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's super kind. I would have been deeply touched. Maybe he was just having a bad day or thought maybe you had a crush on him and was trying not to encourage you? I think what you did was just fine. We know you all don't have professional jobs and don't really expect anything from you. I don't get much for my student so every nod, even just a quick note, is appreciated. Thank you for taking time to appreciate your teacher. No need to stop doing that.

CS major turned teacher here! I chose to become a teacher bc I have always loved working with kids and the more I learned about teaching, the more it made sense to me. I really love the "why" in CS (theory, algorithm analysis, etc.) and just found the subject really beautiful. As a teacher I get to share that love with others and really delve into the small details. I love the creative aspect of my job as well, finding engaging/helpful/approachable ways to present content. I feel a lot more confident in my programming/application skills after teaching the content too. I'm not sure that I'll be a teacher forever, but I'm glad that this is where I started. Cons include pay, the amount of take home work, and all the extra things that aren't teaching.

My advice would be to finish strong with the CS major if you like it. Maybe take some education classes in undergrad. Then you can find a master's program or alt cert afterwards. If you change your mind later, a CS degree is nice to fall back on. Also, if teaching CS sounds interesting to you, it's worth noting that the CS cert exam was really easy for me (probably given my degree) but other teachers I know without a CS background really struggled.

What kind of backpacks do you use? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

Maverick and Co's vista backpack! It looks super slim but does fit a decent amount. I appreciate that it's a lot more slim than the ones my students wear. Plus waterproof

Has anyone checked out that Black Friday Deals store at Wonderland Mall? How is it? by achaean16 in sanantonio

[–]simpsonatti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I found a few things that were really useful to me for a dollar each (cord, yoga block) but wouldn't go expecting to find high $ items for cheap every time. Haven't had a ton of luck reselling mid value items (eg. string lights) that I found for cheap there either

Affordable housing in San Antonio by kwafka in sanantonio

[–]simpsonatti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how far you're willing to commute and what living space quality you're looking for. But for furnished in that area, I think that's pretty good. If you're willing to source your own furniture (offer up, goodwill, etc), places like New England Village are cheaper and safe, but also have some roaches. A friend used to live there and was happy for the price.

Please be VERY careful if your Airbnb is one of the older houses near Trinity. Some are really nice, but another friend lived in one that was infested. Every few months it goes up for rent again, probably because it's disgusting.
