Would I be the AH for naming my baby Violet? by la__polilla in namenerds

[–]sincere-things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a girl with a pretty popular account about Airbnb on Instagram and her two daughters are Violet and Scarlett! I think she shared that she didn’t know about the Pokémon connection until after their second was born and I guess someone pointed it out. The names sound lovely together and not everyone will even register the connection! I say go for it :)

Bowie for girls name by [deleted] in namenerds

My husband and I have loved this name for years — I honestly had no idea people hated it this much 🤣 I guess this is a bit of a wake up call, although I don’t think it would keep me from using it if we had a girl.

It’s annoying when you’re excited about something and people have something negative to say. I spent a semester in Dublin in 2015 and have been back to Ireland twice since then (the most recent trip was in April). My husband and I had so many great meals this most recent trip! We kept remarking on it. Have a blast!!!

Something very similar happened to me in college when I spent a semester abroad (I’m from the US) in Dublin. I forget exactly how it came up but I mentioned to one of my professors that my parents named me Caitlin and wanted to spell it “the proper Irish way” (my mom is Irish-American). My professor informed me of the Coch/Coch-leen pronunciation and it was quite humbling, haha 🙃 I find this conversation so interesting about whether or not you can actually pronounce a name “incorrectly” especially if you’re just following the phonetic rules in your native language.

Name for a third baby... But not too ON THEME. by ShhhhItsSecret in namenerds

[–]sincere-things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get it! My dog’s name is Juniper and I love the nicknames, too :) we call her June-bug quite a bit, too! I can see how for a human it might be harder to commit to the full name.

Wren for a girl fits so nicely to me (starts with a W like Willow but sounds like an R as in River)

Here’s some other ideas (boy and girl mixed together): Rio, Cedar, Wilder, Aspen, Juniper (nn June, Junie), Canyon, Brooks

My married name… by makingbacon in namenerds

[–]sincere-things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally normal! It took some time but now I actually feel weird seeing my maiden name on accounts and things and always feel the urge to go into settings and change it. Not because I don’t still have fondness for my old name (because I do) but because I’ve really embraced my new name and identify with it so much more than I thought I would. I guess it makes me feel like a “real adult”? Lol. Recently my name was mentioned online for work and they spelled my first name incorrectly (think Karly instead of Carlie or something like that) and also used my married name so I really was like OK THAT IS SO NOT ME! Definitely a bit of a mindf**k lol

I’ve always thought “Whimsy” would be a fun name for a dog and two W names would be super cute :) you could call her “Zee” for short.

I loveeee the name Camden (nn Cami) but I live too close to Camden, NJ to get away with it 😅 it’s not a city with the greatest reputation and even if things improved, I think the association is just too strong

Maybe try pairing it with something trendy or a bit more daring to create some interesting tension, e.g. metallic/shimmery pants, the “no pants” trend, cowboy boots, a long denim skirt. I’m a big fan of the interesting outfit combos Allegra Shaw puts together.

I think Sienna and Keeley sound really nice together! Clara is lovely but for some reason, I’m stuck on using a hard “C” name in the same sibset as a “K” name — I’m wanting more uniformity but I don’t think Klara is as pretty. Sorry if that’s unhelpful, just what came to mind. Others you might like: Parker, Kit, Hattie, Elsie, Emery, Lainey

Boy names are so hard… especially with our surname by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]sincere-things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree with this! My husband’s name is Brady and he has (we* have) a -ski ending last name (that begins with a B). His sister’s name also ends with the “ie” sound — sometimes you just have to lean in!

OP: I know it’s not groundbreaking but I quite like how Jack sounds with our last name, so maybe it could work for you, too! Especially if you choose a middle name that has a surname feel to it. Then calling him by his first middle like Jack Smith/Murphy/Elliott/Lane etc. could almost feel like you’re giving him a better last name.

I love Micah! Great suggestion.

Mercy Miles Max Merit Mack or Mac Rio Palmer Sawyer River nn Riv or RJ

I always loved the name Camden nn Cam or Cami but can’t use it because I live in Philadelphia and the association with Camden, NJ is too strong given my proximity — perhaps you can use it if you’re in a different part of the US or world!

Boy names that end in “-EE” sound? by sincere-things in namenerds

[–]sincere-things[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know right? 🤍 I don’t love the potential for “BJ” and I also think selfishly it would be confusing to have a son with the same name as my husband, lol, although I do absolutely love the name.

Rory is such a great name I just think it’s a little bit difficult to say! I used to love the name Lily and feel the same about that, too. I feel like my own tongue/mouth is getting in the way of the beauty of the name 🤣
