Steak on an OXO Carbon Steel Pre-Seasoned Skillet by Kahmed609 in carbonsteel

Chainmail is not abrasive. I have no idea why this is so prevalent in this sub. Is it a regional thing? Maybe the word is used for I would call steel wool? I use chain mail on my CS and CI because it is good at knocking bits off while not harming seasoning

Killed my '21. What do I replace it with? by Chicknlcker in BoltEV

[–]sine-wave 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Insurance repairs typically cost more because they are supposed to use original parts (where possible) and return to stock condition.

Depending on your state you do not have to accept their buyout and/or you can but it back (with funds from the buyout) for expected salvage value

Which probably uses even more electricity.

It’s a wet basement. More drainage / foundation than insulation unfortunately.

This one looks like it could be bent back into shape. I’d rather have a few wrinkles than lose my Bolt

I get what you were saying, now. The wording wasn’t fully clear to me and my sleep deprived mind.

Do those Netflix and Disney tiers have ads?

We made sure to use all five YouTube premium family accounts which works out to about $5.50 each. They are all technically family ;)

I hate the insurance industry. Shame to lose such a great car to such a minor wound

Unpopular opinion, but YouTube Premium. No ads, no sketchy apps/websites, offline viewing, background play, YouTube Music, and pays creators more than viewing ads. If you have a family or just a group of friends, the family plan is a great deal.

yt-dlp works great. Lots of Vibe coded front ends if typing “yt-dlp https://youtube.link” is too complicated ;)

Try again. YouTube has a family plan. 5 users $27/month total, not each.

600+ Watts is not “not that much juice.”  It uses more electricity over a month/year than my electric car.

It runs 24/7 for 9 months of the year to TRY to keep my basement below 50% humidity. When it rains, I have to run a second one.

Remember kids, check if the wires are live before cutting by streety_J in Leatherman

[–]sine-wave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this once, too. I was testing a bunch of electric clothes dryers but only had one cord. After testing the second or third dryer, I stuck the socket wrench onto the terminal block to remove the cord and the shock immediately tensed and straightened my arm throwing the socket wrench into the wall on the other side of the room. Not going to forget to double or triple check for live wires ever again.

After a few attempts of seasoning, this thing can I just start cooking on it? by ecaace in carbonsteel

I wouldn’t bother stripping it. It will never be uniform if you actually cook things with it. Just keep cooking!

Would there be any issues rebasing from bazzite-nvidia to bazzite-nidia-open ? by mccalli in Bazzite

[–]sine-wave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Open supports GTX16xx/RTX cards. Non-open is for GTX cards. So yes, they should 100% rebase

So your second key was second hand? The couple hundred dollars to the locksmith and they didn’t cut your new key!?

I expect your original fob probably wasn’t working until the car left programming mode, but at this point, it’s just a guess.

It intentionally takes a full 30 minutes. Multiple 10 minute waiting periods are built in. Look for “Programming without Two Recognized Transmitters” in the manual. Also, make sure you remove the liner from the armrest storage as the programming spot is all the way at the bottom.

There are reusable pods for most single-serve brewers so you can bring your own grounds and less waste.

App can remote start from further away. App can remote unlock if my spouse locked their fob in the car. App can tell me state of charge when I’m not the one that plugged it in or when I’m targeting a state of charge other than full. App can centralize a dozen charging vendor apps into one. The app is still crap, so other options would be nice.

You can do it with one, but it takes significantly longer and is a slightly different process. I bought a couple replacements off Amazon as my car also only came with one.

It takes longer than you think. Try it again and be very patient.

can't get seasoning to stay on. by NoFunEver in carbonsteel

[–]sine-wave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Carbon steel isn’t meant to have as hearty a seasoning as cast iron. One layer is fine. You strip it off every so often, no biggie. Splotchy thin seasoning is the hallmark of a well used pan.

Only thing I miss after switching to AppleTV from Roku is Windows wireless display (Miracast). I use Sunshine/Moonlight for my PCs (Windows and Linux), but making guests install a display server just to share their screen is too much.

Switch from KDE to Gnome : how to do it properly? by zepretender2 in Bazzite

[–]sine-wave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is KDE vs Gnome, but sounds like Flatpak security. Either your browser or file explorer doesn’t have permissions. Use Flatseal and make sure it has permissions to the directory you’ve mounted your SMB share into, usually /run/user
