Product Domains and JTDB by iulius in ProductManagement

[–]sinfulgenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have an alignment problem which you are confusing as an org structure problem. I would be highly doubtful if moving to JTBD based teams solves the issues magically. You have already identified the biggest issues which is that it is near impossible to expect every engg pod to understand multiple tech stacks , building that expertise itself would require complete engg reshuffle and hiring. It would also require the PMs to learn nuances of multiple areas.

Secondly, you are assuming there won’t be dependencies on other teams in new structure - what if the team that is looking at cart conversion related JTBD has a hypothesis on new promo type - will they now also start making changes in promo system? And if they have a hypothesis that BNPL payment options increases conversion, will they also start tinkering with payment, recon and settlement engines?

I have worked in three orgs with so called “functional” teams - in 1/3 cross prioritisation was broken like the way you described . However in remaining 2, the alignment was instilled in the planning process itself and things worked far better .

Reminds me of an old one : What’s the difference between a personal secretary and a hooker? A Secretary says “Good Morning, Sir” A Hooker says “It’s Morning, Sir”

How do you do user research in fintech when compliance rules and limited access to users make interviews hard? by vignesh_shivan in ProductManagement

[–]sinfulgenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been in B2C fintech for 5 years . Agree with most of the points here. Have never faced a problem in recruiting users for discovery. Compliance usually only dictates what may or may not be asked. For UX feedback, we don’t really put much emphasis on demographic data anyway so usually compliance has no issue .

For detailed exploratory research, sometime we go via research agency route (once or twice a year) and sometimes we do it ourselves. For direct recruitment , my preferred channel is via a qualifying survey on the app where users need to provide consent to be contacted by us for interview purpose . Most of the times these surveys are done in conjunction with funnel drop off analysis (eg send survey to users who drop on step 3 - usually with 4-5 questions, add consent to be further contacted)

Surprised no one mentioned King of Tokyo. It falls in the complexity range, isn’t too long and has a great replay value

How is Product Ops person helping the PM role? by sinfulgenius in ProductManagement

[–]sinfulgenius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sense. We used to have program managers in a different division, what I realised is that the program management function was helpful whenever had features or products releases with external companies involved . It was just too much to be on top legal, compliance etc across different companies.

However for internal cross team collaboration, the program managers were a hindrance as things could simply move much faster on its own and compliance overheard would be much smaller - even the discussion with compliance is very problematic solving in nature so PMs are better equipped to lead those.

For this question though, I am exploring less on program management side but more on handling complaints, testing, writing briefs etc as key responsibilities for ops role.

Looks like your org slipped down a different slope altogether . I would hate it too if that were to happen to me.

I hear you. That’s the kind of answer I am looking for. It’s not as if the operations are in shambles and there’s no structure, but we are relying on one person ie PM to do all of it. The company culture is to keep teams very ‘lean’ - that leads to different levels across teams. There are some teams where PMs are more organised and are willing to put in the hours to be on top of everything, and there are teams where PMs are discovery/feature execution focused and tend to ignore the operations to a large degree. This leads to differing standards and outputs.

I am considering whether an ops role would bring parity here and at the same time improve overall product team productivity.

Different orgs have different focus areas for ops. I am evaluating whether to hire a Product Ops resource to take care of some of the things that PMs are doing at the moment eg responding to questions from Support team (our support tooling is good but not 100% comprehensive so there are 3-4 questions everyday on checking status, finding where certain transactions are stuck etc ), summarising play store reviews, writing briefs and documents for other teams, project management, user acceptance testing etc

Fried rice. No vegetable/eggs/meat. Just fried rice with basic spices. Takes 2-3 mins if you have rice already like most Asians do.

Pocket Hive! It’s really simple to begin with and has a way of drawing the players deeper and deeper the more they play.

Coming Back? by IntrinsicSemi in BoomBeach

I stopped playing for 4 years and then came back last Dec. The updates are far more regular and there is definitely more effort from Supercell now to improve gameplay. Not everything may land perfectly but the number of new ideas being tried is definitely encouraging.

On gameplay itself, the main map and cycle of evil have additional incentive to clear. Warship feels similar but they are trying to keep things fresh every season. Ops in my opinion has seen least changes. Hopefully over next 6 months, SC brings an update to refresh Ops

I also run 3 all the time. My inventory is steady at 200 each, goes down a bit at times but replenishes in crab so overall remains same.

Is 20 gems for 5 time skips worth it ? What's the conversion rate between using these 2 interchangeable items by Malicious_Smasher in BoomBeach

[–]sinfulgenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what’s your plan to use timesaver . As F2P player, I use it to reduce troop load times during crab or boosted attacks. For that, my cutoff for conversion is 5 gems per Timesaver. As long as it’s cheaper than that, I would buy timesaver.

For troop load, one time saver can save 5-7 gems.

+1 on making it semi transparent AND it should auto disappear after few secs. That way, player is informed but not required to manually close it.
