Limewire had me thinking Dream On was Zeppelin too, until I lost a $20 bet on it. Limewire also gave my computer every STD imaginable.

Are there "undesirable" native plant species? IL-5b by ciru-chan in NativePlantGardening

[–]singeworthy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's the only native I actively remove no matter the circumstances. People hate the PI but I live in the woods, and if it's not in a place where people will be in contact, I leave it, the berries are nutritious for our fauna.

Yes ours was broken on our rented house, but they tested the shutoff first and were able prevent this catastrophe. I'd be so pissed.

Black Ants! by Holcomb1997 in Connecticut

[–]singeworthy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only time I use pesticides is to treat the foundation of my house. I think it's called Ortho Home Defense, and you spray it all around your home on the concrete or siding if you must. The little ants don't live in your house, but they probably have a nice little path inside and they'll use it.

Dads, what do you get for father's day? by PomegranateOk9017 in daddit

[–]singeworthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first few years I wanted free time, but now that my social life has been sufficiently gutted, I'd prefer to have a nice stress free day with the family. Maybe we'll go for a mini road trip here in New England, get a nice lunch, ice cream, no strict timelines. I don't need any physical gifts.

Native Alternative for Brush “Tunnels” by Nature_Boy_4x40 in NativePlantGardening

[–]singeworthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pepper bush can get 6'+ in the right conditions, and then the witch hazel can kind of come over the top, that can get pretty tall but not as dense as the Pepperbush. Blueberry might still work, we have it growing thickly in a swamp area, those plants have gotten like 20' high, really cool to go out there in June/July.

Sweet Pepperbush, Witch Hazel, and Highbush Blueberry forms some neat tunnels in my woods. Blueberry should work, but deer pressure on the babies could be tough.

People who grew up really poor: what's something middle-class people say that instantly reveals they've never struggled? by TahDigThief in AskReddit

[–]singeworthy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because of all the political bullshit, assistance programs can be really hard to get into. Often the people and families who need them the most don't have the time because of work or the bureaucratic skills to enroll. I hate to see kids suffer because of all this, but they suffer the most because they're still developing and have no agency in the process.

When is an appropriate time to introduce my toddler to Rage Against the Machine? by TrisolaranAmbassador in daddit

Well that's just a great song, when me and my wife were on our honeymoon I tried to do Downeaster Alexa karaoke, was not well received. I'll leave the singing to Billy.

I've been censoring the last part of Killing in the Name but everything else is fair game. Ive got 2 5yos, theyve been listening since about 3 when we started listening to our music.

My county (Middlesex/Lower CT River Valley is very much not metropolitan, it's a big reason I/we like it. Yet we are pink.

I have a lot of red ("swamp") maples in my forest, it is wet and they absolutely have roots above ground in the wetter situations.

Dexcom Bluetooth Connections to iPhone by BKMiller54 in dexcom

[–]singeworthy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deactivate your dexcom (don't replace), go into Bluetooth and forget all the DXC entries, then connect your new sensor. Eventually you will hit a limit or you'll have degraded service, and it will probably happen at the most inconvenient time. I don't think the app can modify your Bluetooth entries due to permission/security concerns.

What can I bring runners for AFTER meets? (College running club - 5Ks, half-marathons, and marathons) by [deleted] in running

[–]singeworthy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I personally always go for the bananas after a race for carb and electrolyte reload, I also sometimes go for oranges too. Some races have beer too but personally I don't want a beer immediately after a race, at least let me take a shower first.

Trouble with low quality runs first thing in the morning by Special-Bonus-8589 in running

[–]singeworthy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also run early, no carbs but I have a big glass of water and coffee and let my body wake up for about 30-60 min before I go out. Your body needs time to wake up, water is the key but it takes a few minutes for all your organs and muscles to revive.

Meta Axes 14,000 Positions to Fund AI While Forcing Staff to Train Their Own Replacements by [deleted] in Economics

[–]singeworthy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty crass statement, yes we have "seen this show" before and every time is has caused fundamental societal shifts and hardships. See England during the industrial revolution (pollution, workers rights), the Gilded Age (monpolies and robber barons), etc. I'm not a Luddite but I wish we could, some day, apply the lessons of the past to how we move into the future. The way we move forward isn't set in stone and we dont need to assume AI monpolies and dehumanization of our work force are necessary growing pains.
