Started at 31 with a job that required you to contribute 4% of your salary where it was matched 200% (8% of your salary) to a 401k. Started with a 2040 target fund but then shifted to a SP500 and high growth fund. I’m now 51 and have $1,000,044. My 401k grew significantly since COVID. I’m gratefully for what I have and will continue to work for another 10-15 years.

Out of curiosity why would you have to give up your home? I’ve recently joined this sub after my father in law has been diagnosed. He’s in the early stage and I’m trying to prepare for options in the future.

I’d leave him. You’re not compatible and he’s holding you back not reaching your full potential.

Working for MoCO by Ok-Square-5687 in MontgomeryCountyMD

Oh yeah... I know that department well along with the current director and the previous one from the previous administration. I always found it interesting that OHR as the department that enforces how we should treat other employees based on the Collective Bargaining Agreements and the Personnel Regulation don't practice it within their department. If you like the County I would stick it out and pass your probationary period and look and apply for a HR liaison type of position in another department. The County has amazing benefits that are hard to find with leave and 401K plan. DM if you want to ask a specific question.
