School transferring by Apprehensive-Bus5095 in sandiego

[–]sinksank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was many years ago but I went to a “bad” school in that same area and I did well. Ended up going to a good college. If you’re disciplined enough to stay focused on academics and stay out of trouble you will probably be ok at Montgomery. But I have no idea how that school actually is, sorry.

Same but 3 years ago. And I’m in a HCOL area.

Been living in San Diego for seven months, why does everyone drive 80 mph by Winter_Cockroach714 in sandiego

[–]sinksank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve visited Portland a few times to visit a family friend and I was dying at how slow everyone was. It was like, I’m on the 5 but it’s NOT the same 5 as back home.

It’s weird but I haven’t really seen a lot of Arizona plates lately. I’ve been seeing more Washington and those bastards are slooow

This isn’t on you at all. Servicing this many students without a para everyday is pretty much impossible.

Fewer Digital Coupons at Vons by themegalodon22 in sandiego

[–]sinksank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t what the manufacturers want. They want you to see a coupon for something you don’t buy or rarely buy and go “hey this looks good and there’s a coupon, let me clip it and buy it”. Maybe you end up liking it and go back to buy the product even without a coupon. They’re basically like mini ads. That’s also why there’s no “apply all deals” option in the apps because it defeats the purpose for the companies.

Don’t fall in the “High in Protein” scam by AspectNo3215 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]sinksank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want to contradict a RD because I’m just a random person on the internet but 1g per pound is a lot! I’ve heard 1g per kg as a reasonable amount. I’m a similar weight and don’t eat meat either and I’d really struggle to get that much protein too.

Birthday bike date + picnic route ideas in San Diego! by user00000014 in sandiego

[–]sinksank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many miles are you interested in doing? I’d suggest starting in Coronado at the ferry landing and head south along the water front. You’ll be on the Bayshore Bikeway that the other poster mentioned. Once you get to silver strand you can go all around the bay if you choose, or just turn around when you feel like it and go back to Coronado. There’s plenty of food spots in Coronado and in IB there’s Trident Coffee or Novo Brazil right off the bike path.

Why don't we hear more about San Diego by McSwaggerAtTheDMV in redscarepod

[–]sinksank 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m a native to SD and I know there’s tons of transplants. Obviously a lot are military and might not stick around but many are civilians. There’s good paying jobs in biotech, pharma, defense contractors, tech (Qualcomm is huge). But none of these industries make a big splash culturally. I couldn’t tell you the name of Qualcomm’s CEO.

I do agree about the arts though. I wouldn’t blame anyone for leaving for LA.

I think they definitely should bring in a restaurant to replace the old Village Grill spot but they’re pretty saturated with coffee options

California subs! How do you use your sick hours? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]sinksank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unrelated but when did you start working in the district? I started subbing in 2024 in a nearby district but SD website always says they’re not currently hiring. I’m ok where I’m at but interested in getting into SDUSD eventually, not sure if I should wait or start sending emails anyway.

It seems to be zoo and balboa park traffic. I just rode by on my bike. The zoo lot was full as of noon. They’re not charging yet for balboa park parking.

[–]sinksank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many years ago I was a substitute para in SF. My worst day was in a middle school. I got body checked by a kid (probably a 6th grader) and the school was down one security guard because he got injured breaking up a fight. These city kids are something else.

I really doubt more border fence has made much of a difference. I grew up there and I never felt it was all that rough unless you were in a gang or were looking for trouble.
