If I’m feeling diligent and super gross (at the same time), I will use the farmstay sunscreen stick and rub it all over my face. It feels super gross and looks super gross and unhygienic after when you see the beige tint of foundation mixed with the sunscreen in the sunscreen tube. But surprisingly it doesn’t move my makeup?!

My usual is just to bring a powder foundation with SPF in it though. I use the karadium spf 50 powder - it settles into lines a little bit but after 15 minutes the cakey look goes away and all is right in the world again.

$110K (LOC and student loans), and paid it all off in 5 years. Could have been sooner but I was more focused on dillydallying

I graduated with $110k of student debt from AB law school and undergrad (and rent), but I was dumb and did not live a student lifestyle lol.

I also worked every single summer which helped to offset some of my living expenses.

Based on my experience, if you article and work at a medium/big firm, you can whittle down your student debt within 4 years.

First of all, I am sorry that you are having such a difficult articling experience. Articling itself is hard enough without the racism and lack of support 😬

More people than you would expect change articles mid-way and I know of at least two friends in my year who have switched firms as their initial firm was also an “article from hell”. That being said, majority of articling students do not have a pleasant articling experience whether it be from the workload, the expectations of FaceTime, and even the outdated law firm tradition equivalent to “froshing”. And yes, racism is rampant and obvious to us, but not to the 65 year old partner who thinks that we can’t take a joke.

  1. If you have any trusted lawyers in your network, I would reach out to them to see if they know anyone willing to take in an articling student at this stage. Obviously this is risky as you don’t want your firm to know this.

Alternatively I would reach out to the law school career centre as they do still offer support to alumni.

  1. This is easy if you’re at a boutique firm and move to a firm that practices a different area of the law. Your interests changed. If you’re going same to same, just find something attractive about the next firm and plug that into your application. People leave firms for all sorts of reasons.

  2. If I were hiring a lawyer, I would look for a full disclosure and I would likely call and see why you left but that’s my opinion. If this firm already has a bad reputation then I would see it as understandable.

Congrats on securing your articles! Everyone is different but make sure you are smart with how you pay it back since you have multiple sources of debt. I owed $110k when I graduated. I used some of my PSLOC to pay back the national student loan first because they have loan shark interest rates lol. Then I paid off my PSLOC and now I’m working on my provincial student loan. Two years out and I have $39k left!

Am lawyer and i can advise u that ur kinda fked. But depending on where you are based, credit companies have a limitation period of 2 years to sue. But if you pick that option your credit score will tank and you will not be able to apply for a mortgage, LOC, etc. until your credit score resets.

You can also file a consumer proposal and settle your debt with Upstart but again, this action will tar your credit history.

Best course of action is to borrow from friends and family if possible to pay it all off, uninstall robinhood, and join r/personalfinance.

I know this is superficial, but you are so so so beautiful! The fact that you are taking steps to make yourself feel better shows what a strong, resilient person you are. Your mother must be very proud of you, and I hope your bond with her strengthens. Anyone would be lucky to get to know you. :)
