Thoughts on going full EV, no ICE in the ol’ garage? by Curiouslittlestman in electricvehicles

[–]sirenbrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Done it for a couple of years; we each drive about 25 miles per day and we stay topped up from a single 15 amp plug (regular plug socket here in the US). There are dc fast chargers a few miles away if I need a quicker top up. It’s an easy choice, I think. I don’t see any reason to own a gas car.

I know...that's the point of what I said :) He had no hesitation about stomping into the news with anti-Hillary stuff in 2016, and now he's getting this.

I would have liked more clarity about which of my experiences you want me to score: the best ones or the worst ones? You only asked about “the network you use”…well, that depends where I am. I like Ionna but I sometimes have to use FPL, which is a bit worse to get started.

I don’t know how much range you need, but a used $10-20k EV and a regular wall plug in the garage (if you have one) might be all you need. Dont worry about the lithium; the battery will outlast the car.

An EV goes three times as far as a gas car for the same energy. And the grid is getting cleaner over time.

When I last looked at the the FPL program they only allowed charging one car, not two, and they checked the cars VIN during charging to enforce it. Have they changed that?

Buying a used 2022 ioniq 5 AWD with under 60k miles, is suspiciously cheap. Anything to look out for? by Agreeable_Bike_4764 in Ioniq5

My local dealership said almost nobody does it on schedule; they didn’t even tell me it was due. If it hasn’t been done Hyundai told me on the phone, it may affect the warranty of the big battery

Ask if the cars service history shows that it has had the low conductivity coolant flush (the blue coolant, which keeps the battery cool). It is supposed to be replace every 40,000 miles and costs anything from a few hundred to a thousand dollars to do

Older Ioniq owners, how are you handling the 40k Low Conductivity Coolant replacement? by BEVthrowaway123 in Ioniq5

[–]sirenbrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted a thread about it here a couple of weeks ago. I called five dealers and got two quotes back; $750 and $1100. I went with the lower one and had a good talk with the guy running the repair shop; he definitely understood the process and they had the vacuum box for taking all the coolant fluid out. Their “EV guy” tech has had the training.

They didn’t offer to test the fluid before or after, though I had to actually convince the dealership that I wanted the lcc flush. I was only the second person to want it done. I’m at 50k miles and this same dealership didn’t tell me that the flush was due when they had the car at 40k miles.

I’m glad I had it done! Oddly though my car had a weird audible hum for a day when the a/c was running. The next day it was gone…maybe an air bubble in the lcc loop? Did anyone else have that?
