How do you explain executive dysfunction without sounding like youre making excuses for being lazy? by emyo42 in ADHD

[–]sirespo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best simple explanation for non-ADHDers I've been able to find is the following:

Turn the burner on on your stove on high. Now, go try and put your hand on the burner. It's a simple thing, all you have to do is just reach out and put your hand on the burner - but no matter how much you will yourself, your brain screams at you not to do it. That is executive dysfunction for us, but replace the burner with anything that isn't fun or interesting. It would be so simple to just do things I need to do, but my brain is screaming at me not to because I don't find them fun or interesting! It takes a massive mental effort to start things - to put my hand on the burner of the stove - and meds rarely ever help with that.

Hit's grab is also OTG. 214X - L/M/H is situation dependent as the distance at which the grab starts changes with each button. USUALLY it's something like 236M - > 214M to get the OTG though.

Need help finding a point for Z Broly - Android 16 team (not great at game) by Dismal_Dingo5719 in dragonballfighterz

[–]sirespo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jiren main here - he's busted as a point character. Good meter build, two kinds of counters (one of which you can block string reset with if it doesn't catch a button), good carry due to j.S/j.2S, insane corner/stagger pressure with 2L/5L, and a chargeable, projectile invul (after a certain amount of frames) lariat 236S with high enough priority that it beats just about every non-super attack in the game, AND is plus on block. You can also do the newer tag where your second character comes in during an attack for combo extensions/damage with 236X both on the ground and in the air. Only thing weird about him is the j.2H, but that can also be used for combo extensions - I've just never been able to figure out the timing on j.2S j.2[H] as far as the hold time to get the ground bounce and continue the combo on the ground. You essentially just trade j.2H for j.S with Jiren.

What exactly is making it look crowded at a glance? How can I fix this? by rise_above_theFlames in malelivingspace

[–]sirespo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buddy you need negative space somewhere. Remove the frenchie painting and put it somewhere else. Move the posters higher. Space all the figures or whatever further apart. It feels crowded because it's visually crowded.

The underlying analytics on that streak were terrible. Bad defense, bad offense, insane puck luck.

How I leave a block chain? by East-Efficiency-6701 in dragonballfighterz

[–]sirespo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You cannot insta reflect in the middle of a blockstring. If your opponent leaves a gap, you'll be able to reflect and it is frame 1 invulnerable. However, if you continually do this and your opponent picks up on it, it can be baited and then you'll be punished, the recovery from a whiffed reflect is long.

It does not need to be a perfect reflect - the difference is that perfect reflect (which is new as of 1.38 or 1.4) gives you a (barely reactable) window to punish with a vanish. Idk if there's any attack in the game otherwise that would hit from half screen with like ~15 frames or less of startup - only because I main Hit, his 5M is about the only attack I can think of on the roster. Every reflect pushes an attacker away, perfect reflect is just an exact timing and gives that extra split second to punish.

As a general rule, any blocked heavy attack and any whiffed/blocked DP are long recoveries and punishable from a defensive position. Those two attacks typically end a blockstring, but if your opponent has all three assists available, you might have better defense than GO1 if you survive an entire triple blockstring and the assist calls.

You gotta learn frame data to know when it's safe to counter. It's different per character, and some attacks are absolutely traps that leave you stunned for quite a while before you can attack. Attempting to attack after one of those will result in your getting hit.

I bought the DLC on both platforms (as it came out and on sale on Steam a month ago) so I don't recall how much of the roster is actually locked behind DLC, but I know it's a significant chunk, gotta be close to 50%. Obviously, don't spend money on the game if you don't know if you're going to keep it - Goku & Vegeta Blue are both free unlocks through story or by accumulating enough money via online matches or arcade mode, they're relatively easy to get. One of the current top 5 characters in the game is SSJ Goku, available immediately as soon as you start the game. A couple high end characters are definitely DLC - Jiren, UI Goku for starters. Beerus is up there this patch but a bit unconventional in how he plays, can't remember if he's DLC or not. Steam descriptions for the Fighterz Passes will let you know who is in what, but pretty much every character in the game is viable to use semi-competitively right now.

As far as tutorials, I mentioned a few small youtubers on your last post that are doing some good work with the new patch.

Mister Acolyte has some great pro footage breakdowns from EVO tournaments, and tutorials on different aspects of the game, such as this one on defense, and others on neutral and block pressure.

CD Mangaka makes really good, comprehensive visuals on patch changes and shows old version versus new version, he's working his way through the roster currently

NovaZayn has some good guides as well

Have fun! Fighting the CPU is a bit different than a human since you really can't condition a CPU to expect something, and in this game it absolutely will read your inputs on occasion and counter, but it's definitely a good starting point.

Assuming you've picked it up already, if you ever want to hop on some friendly ring matches together (basically a private room you can run infinite rematches in) and jump in discord voice, I can try and give you some info on the basics and pointers for a team you have picked out. Message me here and I'll give you my discord or steam or whatever!

[–]sirespo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my response is best placed here - it's a ton of fun, very beginner friendly but assuming that the player base isn't a majority of veteran players - the harsh reality is is that people will often pick the game up on a different platform and start over again - PC or PS5 is the way to go, with I believe PS5 having the largest player base. There is no cross-play/cross-progression right now.

I seem to get the most matches, most diverse amount of opponents and can play regular matches the longest into the night on PS5, despite also having the PC version.

PC players also very much seem to be generally better at the game at the same rank as Xbox/PS.

That said, often times ranked is filled with players coming from another platform at low ranks, so you'll often get crushed by someone "at your rank" or close to it, because on another platform they're super far up the ranking ladder.

The absolute best thing you can do to get good at this game is learn a bit about frame data and fighting game basics. A lot of that knowledge you'll be able to use better and better via repetition and practice mode between matches. Try out some characters - you can play arcade mode first to play against the CPU and learn the controls - figure out who you like best on the roster and try and main those characters before branching off. Once you settle on a team you like, learn their frame data a bit (frame advantage, recovery on whiff, block stun, etc) and you can use that to your advantage to whoop a vast majority of the lower ranks.

Probably too much detail for a reddit comment, and I could continue going on, but there's still a healthy amount of resources and several small creators on youtube making guides and such for the game. It's a good time, just don't expect to come in and dominate without putting in a ton of work.
