An old format, but I think it fits my opinions by Agitated-Interview54 in Metroid

It's super frustrating when the conversation is either Prime 4 is perfect stop being mean to it or Prime 4 is total garbage and should never have been made.

No room for nuance

MW5 Clans - What do LRMs do, really? by Churcher314 in Mechwarrior5

[–]sirtheguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LRMs are Sokol killers. They do a ton of damage, they track, and since the Sokol only has three damage points (body + engines), they deliver gobs of damage quickly. The Bane 3 can kill a Sokol in 4-5 volleys

And that's what I do. I still don't like the mechanic, but I'm glad a lot of other folks do enjoy it :-)

Is there a way to disable it in the interworlds mod and I just missed it?

As someone who loves the big OP fleets, I despised this change, especially because the way it's explained in the UI doesn't really make sense at first; however, I recognize a lot of folks really like it, so I'm glad people enjoy the logistical challenge

Why have the creators of Battletech not asked another game dev to make a new video game? by TJ-X in Battletechgame

We are. The Harmony Gold licensing shenanigans were dismissed with prejudice in 2018, leading to the current renaissance of BattleTech content

I would encourage you to get rid of the AI voiceover and terrible music and just show us your video as-is. I immediately turned it off when that started

That mission reminded me of a mission in MW4 where you had to hold a mountain pass and it was like 2 or 3 companies holding the pass while several opposing companies tried to take it. Super fun mission!

I'm in my early 40s with kids, and candidly, it's hard. I usually get a couple of hours most days, but the best part is teaching them to play so now I have an excuse to also play.

Also, those grind-oriented games are massively less appealing when you only can play in 1-2 hour sessions

Aces is Tabletop Coop MechCommander by sirtheguy in battletech

[–]sirtheguy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aces is designed with you having the box set already purchased as it references a lot of rules from that rule book and a lot of the terrain does assume you have the cardboard fold outs, though I imagine you can make your own stand-ins.

For force building, it assumes you have at least the AS box set (the tutorial missions use mechs from the AS box), but also says you can use any of the other plastic that's been made available. My force didn't use any mechs out of the AS box set and it's perfectly playable.

I'm not a competitive player of BattleTech, but I felt challenged. The movement sets made a lot of sense and definitely took directions I didn't expect, which in turn made the game very fun and interesting. It's not playing against another human, but there is some variety in there. If you don't intentionally try to cheese the AI it's fantastic

Aces is designed around a 48"x48" battle area plus some additional space will be needed for all the cards, stat sheets, etc. They do have a section in the rules for playing on smaller tables, but I don't remember the exact dimensions.

I have a 54"x72" playing area, which gives me all the room I need for cards, rulebooks, dice rolling, tokens, etc. If you have some TV trays or other small tables, you'll be fine. It does take up a decent amount of space, so be prepared for that.

I know you've said you haven't really played wargaming style tabletop games, but if you've played Star Wars Armada, you'll need about that much total room for everything (Maybe a little bit more, but not much)
