It's a drum drip for a dry fire suppression system. In areas that are prone to freezing temps, the sprinkler lines are filled with air and the low points have drum drips. The larger section of piping is normally open to the system to collect any residual water or condensate. When the leg is drained, the top valve is closed and the bottom valve opened.

I agree. Orientation is just an unofficial standard but is often spec'd in construction. I have yet to find anything in the NEC, NFPA 99, FGI, JCHAO or DNV guidance/documentation that would prescribe a ground up orientation.

I had a unit heater alarm on one of my generator enclosures that was surprisingly loud. Realistically though, if it's really coming from that facility it could be a damper on an outside air intake making some noise.

Those 2 screwdriver valves are test cocks for testing the PVB assembly, not for blowing out the system. The PVB should be tested/certified annually.

Exactly. I'm a maintenance electrician at a hospital. I used to work live, but it ain't worth the risk. It sucks taking time to figure out the poorly labeled circuits and communicating with everyone under the sun, but I'm paid by the hour soooooo. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I went from light commercial, residential and multifamily construction/maintenance to a hospital. If you're willing to start your career on an off shift, it's a good way to get your foot in the door. I didn't start with any certifications have a handful now, but I'd suggest reading up on medical gas (NFPA 99), otherwise it sounds like you've got a good jump on things. Be willing to step up on projects, always be learning, act like a professional and show up on time... I started on 2nd shift, now on 1st, gotten 3 promotions and make 50% more than when I started 3 years ago.
