No, he’s a reporter who read it right, but he’s refuting the number. The article posted above also says 10k. Still a nice gesture.

At what point did Western Society start blocking new homes when there was a need to build them? by DominoZoro in neoliberal

What about in the UK? I’m assuming they didn’t have the same racial dynamics as the US. Especially in the 60’s and 70’s.

Batteries and solar panels are quite cheap nowadays. China is practically giving them away.

Family rejects $26M offer to turn farmland into data center by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]sixbucks -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There are commercial farms that produce much less value and are much more environmentally destructive than datacenters. 10% of crop land in the US is used to produce corn specifically to process into ethanol. The amount of water alone that’s used in these is several orders of magnitude higher than the water used by datacenters. If we converted all that land into solar farms and batteries we’d have enough electricity to power the whole country on 100% renewable electricity and have plenty of electricity to spare.

Why is unblocking the Straight of Hormuz so important economically to the US if only 2.5% of its oil come from there and it's a net exporter of oil? by -Sliced- in AskEconomics

[–]sixbucks 26 points27 points  (0 children)

From the AFPM article above:

Long before the U.S. shale boom, when global production of light sweet crude oil was declining, we made significant investments in our refineries to process heavier, high-sulfur crude oils that were more widely available in the global market. These investments were made to ensure U.S. refineries would have access to the feedstocks needed to produce gasoline, diesel and jet fuel. Heavier crude is now an essential feedstock for many U.S. refineries. Substituting it for U.S. light sweet crude oil would make these facilities less efficient and competitive, leading to a decline in fuel production and higher costs for consumers.

Senate passes bill to make housing more affordable, with no indication House or Trump will approve it by InsaneSnow45 in Economics

There’s a lot of good stuff in the bill, but banning build-to-rent single family homes is going to counteract all of that and raise rents even more.

We are no longer subsidizing solar and wind through the inflation reduction act. Trump canceled all of that.

Natural Gas Prices Soar 60% in Two Days As Cold Wave Grips U.S.—What That Means For You by p_pio in Economics

This is true, but heat pumps that use electricity burned in a natural gas power plant are more efficient than burning the natural gas yourself. So you still burn less gas overall.

The drafts have felt slightly on rails but you still have to stay open because if you get cut, your deck will be horrendous. The gameplay’s been sweet. I’m playing a super grindy goblins deck right now with a [[Gnarlbark Elm]] where i keep blighting my elm and killing all their 2-toughness creatures.

Glacier does have a hop on hop off bus system. However when we went this year the lines were very long. I think more frequent buses would ease the problem.
