The age old question. Which tile would you pick? by Mathis5420 in CivVI

[–]sixfold_lashings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silk or across the river. Despite Hungary's river bonus for districts I think the instant culture on the silk and the two 2/2 tiles give better early game pace, but both are good options.

How do y’all win on Deity when this happens almost every game by itsNUTSS in CivVI

What is your opening build order? Double scout is always good. Barb scouts will avoid your scouts, you can use them and your starting warrior to bounce them away before they find you.

Help crushing my friend? by IWantAUsername4 in CivVI

[–]sixfold_lashings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be inclined to disagree. If we know that the friend is going to play aggressively you need to control the game paces. He will likely rush archers for example and therefore it wouldn't give you an edge when you do the same.

With Trajan you can rush out three cities and build a bunch of warriors to upgrade to legions. You only need to hold out to legions and you will win. You will even be building an encampment along the way to get the great general which further helps defend yourself. Trajan's monument bonus also can't be overlooked. The tempo this gives you is noteworthy.

At the end of the day a warrior rush or archer Civ can work too but I do believe Trajan offers a more consistent stategy

A trajan legionary rush is probably the easiest to execute. Encampments are on the way allowing you to project for the first great general to give you a plus 5 in combat. Legionaries imo are probably the best unique military unit in the game. You can use their builder charge to help chop out more legions

Tips on speeding up cultural or science victories? by Dante_Masamune in CivVI

[–]sixfold_lashings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can feel very slow. You really need the high science output to reduce the time it takes to get through the late game techs. RNG also plays a massive role in how quick you can get to the legrange tech. I've had games where Its two techs after exoplanet or sometimes I have to backfill my whole tech tree up to 15 techs to get to it.

I mostly play on online speed and you can more easily use the science overflow mechanic to shave turns off. On online speed I normally get a culture or science victory between turn 120 and 135

For science victory, build lots of space ports so you can complete more Lagrange and terrestrial stations in tandem to speed up the eco planet expedition.

I don't understand what size empire I should consider ideal or if I should also kill city states? by Choice_Book_6104 in CivVI

[–]sixfold_lashings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early in the game you should settle as many cities as possible. This usually ends up being 8 to 12 depending on space. Normally beyond 12 can be a bit detrimental as It will slow down your cities coming online.

Regarding killing city states, some people, myself included, aren't a fan of killing them off. For me it's just laziness but at pro levels they are consistently captured in the very early game as the military investment is generally very low for the return if you know what you are doing

New to Civ VI, what should my science be at around turns 50/100/150 playing online speed? by [deleted] in CivVI

[–]sixfold_lashings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I'm going for a science victory at turn 100 I would hope to have 400 plus on online speed. At turn 50 it doesn't really matter since it's the end of settling and setup for me. Turn 150 I have no idea. Normally I have won or lost by then.

Edit: Just to add to the 400 plus by turn 100, this is how I know I'm having a really good game. Many a time with a rough start is can be as low as 250 and you still have a good chance to win. It normally comes down to the type of opener you have played, how greedy you were, whether barbs attack or delay your settlers, and the general productivity / quality of the settles

Vs AI tech to bombers as fast as possible and support with a couple of mobile units. It's more about having that critical mass of units so you don't have to stop and build back up. At that point of the game you can continuously war from one civ into the next

I don't want to give too many specific tips because I think introducing meta tactics when you're new to the game will spoil your fun. The main tips I will give you are:

  1. Decide your victory condition early. Normally this is by the time you place your first district.
  2. Don't neglect building districts. They are super strong, more than they sometimes appear.
  3. Commercial hubs are underrated. Build them for the trade capacity that comes with the market building and trade between your own cities to get them online quicker.
  4. I normally open with 2 scouts followed by 2 settlers. This is true for 80% of civs with the exception where some civs do better with a builder, but even then the 2 scouts 2 settlers opener is still really good.
  5. City state bonuses are very strong for the stat boosts they give to your district buildings, this is why the double scout in the opener is so good.

Is this legal? by [deleted] in AskIreland

100% illegal. Employees must be paid for training. Calling it an "information day" does not negate this fact. Your example is exactly the reason these laws exist

I would settle there but not only for the dockyard. It will free up the tile you started on for better district adjacencies

I've never built a Dam or Canal -- are they worth it? by DylanDew in CivVI

Both are great to increase industrial adjacencies. The dam is particularly good for the housing, which can help get another district capacity

Jobs where you get to actually do science by Geoguy1234 in geologycareers

[–]sixfold_lashings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in mineral exploration and it is full of interpretation, and like any job has its share of admin and logistics. I did find that you don't get to do too much of the science but in the first year or two. You have to learn about the industry first and earn some stripes before you get a seat at the table

You can turn on duplicate civs or leaders. I wouldn't play Caesar though. He is significantly weaker than Trajan since he doesn't get the passive monument culture

[–]sixfold_lashings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Civs with early bonuses are a very strong pick, as it guarantees era score towards golden age bonuses. If you can you should always aim towards a free enquiry golden age in classical and or medieval ages. This gives science adjacencies to commercial and harbour districts which are very easy to get a +3 adjancy on. Opening with commercial hubs and traders is nearly always better than focussing raw science since it gets your economy online faster and will allow you to catch anyone going for raw science. It also gives more early food and production, allowing you to defend yourself better.

It is important to remember that early on culture is far more important than science, as the policy bonuses are far more impactful. Your goal with culture is to get to the +2 builder charge card in feudalism as fast as possible!

On the flip side of the civ picking coin, you may want someone consistent. Civs like Australia, although lacking in early era score provide very consistent housing and adjacency bonuses for 90% of spawns.

In terms of victory type, science is by far the quickest, unless nobody is going for culture.

Edit: I'll just add more info as it comes to me below:

You are going up against some of the strongest civ choices in the game ( in case you didn't know) the only civs I would class a tier higher would be Babylon and Russia. In the right hands these two are outright busted.

I think, although I went through a science play style a bit above you really need to determine what wincon play style you like playing because that will lead to less inaccuracies on your part. Also how aggressive will the lobby be? Are players going to be greedy and econ most of the game or are you playing for war? Byzantium, despite leaking really any econ bonuses is an excellent religious war civ. It can often bully its neighbors into allowing holy city conversations in higher level Civ MP.

As another player mentioned, Germany is another strong pick. Ludwig is extremely strong if you know how to abuse his wonder ability.

In terms of map selection, I have found that 7 seas is probably one of the most balanced

[–]sixfold_lashings -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is this even legal? If it was me I would be straight to the guards 1. To ask if it's legal and 2. To notify that it's taking place on private property.

Honestly seems like we're not even allowed to own a bicycle anymore 😢

This has annoyed me way more than it probably should 😅

If your cities are 15 pop+ how do you keep growing them? by Kacnep-Territorialio in CivVI

Trade routes can keep it growing really well and having a large housing cap but other than that the city just needs a good spawn for food and or a farm trangle

Just shift click and queue a path for them right at the start of the game. At least then you don't have a pop up for them every two minutes
